Descriptions du produit

Well-known contemporary artist Jean-Paul van Boxtel introduces many innovative techniques and applications for acrylic paint, whose physical composition makes it incredibly versatile. The book also deals in detail with the latest trends, including gels and media. The first part of the book answers the question 'what is acrylic paint?', and goes on to describe the various products that are available. Following on from this is a 'gallery' section, providing examples of paintings that show the wide range of styles and finishes possible using acrylic paints. The author then guides you step-by-step through sixteen 'workshops', each of which uses a different set of materials, so that the reader can learn how to create their own beautiful paintings. These include still life's, landscapes, architecture, portraits and abstract art. Careful attention is paid to health and safety throughout, and a useful colour chart at the end of the book introduces you to the range of colours available from which you can put together your own palette. The book includes exceptional photographs, taken by the author specially for this book.

Succinct intro to acrylic mediums, paints, brush and knife techniques 24 avril 2011
Par Cynthia Berger - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I'm used to watercolors, and am teaching myself acrylics. This book is what I was looking for. It presents modern materials and how to use them, but it's not a treatise on painting by any means - though it has the author's work in it.
You'll find basic practical advice on preparing a variety of surfaces to accept acrylic paints, basic chemistry of acrylic paints. He talks a bit about how to deal with the short drying time of acrylics. He addresses ways to successfully apply watercolor painting techniques to acrylic paints. And he also addresses techniques unique to acrylics in combinations with their plethora of media.

It's laid out in a simple way with a lot of bright photos, I don't particularly LOVE the layout, because it is like a series of graphics for magazine ads. Then again, that doesn't harm the info.

It has a useful section about the many new types of media, categorized by what can be done with each type. (Of course, for really detailed info on media, you'll want to pick up some of the free proprietary data pamphlets about each company's acrylic media lines that you find on the shelves of your Local Art Store.)

I find it an up-to-date, helpful, reference book that is not dense, so you can get through it in a reading, and then go back to it and pick out the parts you need at the moment. I looked at a bunch of other new books, and this one suited my need for basic technical info - not a "how to paint", "how to use color" type of book (though it is thorough enough to address each of those briefly).

Very succinct, which I appreciate.
