Présentation de l'éditeur

AN AMAZON NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER

A man is dead. The killer is a woman. But what secrets lie beneath the surface - so dark that a man has to die?

Women are rarely cold blooded killers. But when famous philanthropist Hugo Fletcher is found dead, there is no doubt in anybody's mind that the killer is a woman. And it is clear from the precision of the planning that this was no crime of passion. It was an execution.

The victim was revered the world over for his charitable work with trafficked Eastern European prostitutes, and as at least one of these girls is missing, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is certain that there has to be a connection.

But nothing is as it appears on the surface. A web of complex relationships is gradually revealed and it seems that everybody has something to hide. As each horrific secret is exposed, Tom Douglas begins to realise that this is much more than a simple murder case. And he has a terrible dilemma to face - whether to punish the guilty, or protect the innocent.

REVIEWS:

"Abbott carefully constructed a world of mystery, depravity, sex, violence, manipulation and intrigue on so many different levels that I can honestly say you truly have to read until the last page to understand and appreciate the complexity of the story." Karen DeLabar: Writing on the Rocks

"Excellent and intriguing start which had me hooked from the first page." S Wilton

"A brilliantly written storyline that's hard to put down, I highly recommend this book and the author." Janet Clark

Sir Hugo Fletcher is dead. The controversial philanthropist has been murdered. Now it's up to Tom Douglas to unravel the mystery behind the man and his life to discover the truth. And what he uncovers is a sordid secret life of illusions, delusions, depravity, violence, and murders. Now the only question remaining is how to protect the innocent from further damage.

Rachel Abbott has written an amazing debut novel with lots of twists and turns, adding layer upon layer that will leave you guessing right up to the end. Her characters are well-drawn and very complex, and she sets the scenes perfectly - taking us from the glamour of upper-crust society to the depths of poverty and neglect. A great story, executed with style. Bravo, Ms. Abbott!

I bought this book by chance, just because I liked the summary and I found it absolutely fantastic. It is just impossible to put it down and the characters grew on me all along.

The characters develop in a very interesting way and by the end of the book you almost "feel" for them. Even though it is a pretty dark story she didn't sink into melodrama.

A great book!

I've liked this book, with great feelings expressed with strength. The style is fluid. However, the suspens is a liitle bit thin with an early underatnding on the outcome. The load of insanity endured by the caracters is far above what we could think possible....

Good read , although took some bit to get into it. When thought you had an idea who did it the real reason didn't get there till the end .
