About the author
Richard Schaffer is Professor of Business Law, Department of Finance, Walker College of Business, Appalachian State University. His primary teaching responsibilities have been in the area of business law, and the law of international trade and investment. Professor Schaffer received his J.D. from the University of Mississippi and his LL.M. from New York University. A former practicing attorney, he has served as visiting consultant to the United Nations Department of International Economic and Social Affairs (CSDHA/CRIMP), New York, San Jose, and Vienna, on projects related to multinational corporations, corrupt practices, and socioeconomic development and as an expert member and rapporteur of international working groups on international economic criminality. Schaffer has acted as Director for Education of the 1,000-industry-member North Carolina World Trade Association. He also has served as consultant to business schools on the internationalization of the curriculum. He consults regularly with industry on topics related to the international home-textile industry.
