Présentation de l'éditeur

***Warning: sexual content!!! 18+ please.***

Sasha has grown up with one surety: she’s not normal.

She sees things in the darkness that no one else can see. Mysterious men cloaked in shadow, moving through the night. The problem is, pointing out invisible people is a fast track to a padded cell. Orphaned at age five, Sasha quickly learns an important survival tip: keep her mouth shut and stay out of the spotlight.

Until one night, everything changes. She and her boyfriend, Jared, find themselves stranded on the wrong side of town. Suddenly, the men she was convinced were hallucinations, are very real. And very dangerous.

As a new world opens up around her, she meets him. The Boss. An alpha leader who entrances her mind and tugs on her body. Primal and sexual, his people have a different set of rules. And they don’t always play nice.

As danger rises up around her, her differences may be the only thing that saves her life. Sasha must embrace the things she tried so hard to hide, while resisting the person her body craves most. She has finally found her shadow men, and they will change her life forever.

Good match.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 What the Hell??? 23 mai 2014

The book was free so ... but 7% in the story I thaught "What the Hell!!!!???". Male rape? Manipulative "higher race" with a strong sex drive playing with humans... I must confess I was somewhat disgusted.

What sick book is it?

But... I went on and astonishly, it grew on me! I would never have believed it but I warmed to the characters and to this "alternate reality".

Of course, it took some big butt kicking by the heroine. She had to constantly save the weak humans and tame the big bad wolves.

Now, I'm really enjoying the serie (finished book 2 and will begin book 3), crazy sexual universe and all.

Sasha is a smartmouthed heroine with punky attitude. She is fragile, never fitting in but also incredibly strong. Untrained, her magic and spells often backlash but she gives everything she has to save the day.

Stefan is sex on legs (alpha male leader oozing power and sex) and Charles is strangely endearing with his nonplussed sex drive. Nearly refreshing with no ounce of shame (always hitting on Sacha like a kid in hope of candy). Astonishing really!

I never thaught it would work but somehow it does. I still don't understand this mystery but whatever, I have a great time!

Une série vraiment originale dont l'héroïne Sasha est vraiment attachante. Elle découvre que sa vision excentrique d'hommes de l'ombre n'est pas le fait de sa folie mais une réalité. Je me jette sur le tome 2.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Heed the warnings - Lots of non-consensual sex 19 février 2014
Par Aleph - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
Into the Darkness is unique because it features characters who live by "a different moral code" and have no problem raping and mind wiping humans but are also supposed to be loveable, funny, heroes. Yes, let's chuckle at their irreverent, frequent sexual violations and pat them on the head. "Boys will be boys" and all that (females of this species also rape). In comparison to other "dark" erotica novels which feature rape or scenes of dubious consent, the author doesn't treat it with the gravity this kind of behavior warrants. The point here is that it's okay because they're a different species. I mean, why can't they just go for one-night stands or pay for escorts/prostitutes? Oh that's right, because that would make the whole rape vein of this storyline pointless.

Sasha's main love interest, Stefan, is the leader of this clan of rampant rapers. At the 90.4% mark, while Sasha is recovering from near death, unconscious in her bed, Stefan rapes her. "He'd pushed himself on a weak, half dead vulnerable woman. She hadn't been awake, she hadn't given her permission--with any real clarity--and she probably had no idea she'd lain with him." This book is what it is. The treatment of rape here is just far too lighthearted and flippant for my tastes. It's not a case of Stockholm's Syndrome or any hidden desire to be forced herself--Sasha just doesn't really care.

Speaking of Sasha, how stupid do you have to be to knowingly venture into an extremely dangerous neighborhood equipped with nothing but a rape whistle? No pepper spray, no taser, not even a goddamn steak knife. The rape whistle makes further appearances throughout the rest of the book. It's either supposed to be funny and/or a super lame and lazy plot device.

Some other WTF? moments for me:
"I mentally tried to tap the Pterodactyl wings of memory." -- lol nice metaphor. Lots more where that came from.
"Listen, what did you mean about withstanding the...pher-thing?" -- Really, college student who doesn't know about pheromones?
Charles: "I want to shake you like a crying baby!"
Sasha: "What a horrible thing to say!" -- Is this the witty dialogue other reviewers are talking about?

With the response this book has gotten, there's clearly a market for lots of "steamy" rape under a veil of paranormal fantasy. Coming from somebody who enjoys reading about a wide range of taboo and fetishist subject matter, this book just portrayed sex in a way which did not sit well with me. Even without the nonchalant attitude toward rape, I have no respect for the heroine and the hero comes off as a wishy-washy, dull, sleazeball. The only likeable character is Charles. Hopefully this review helps warn other readers as I don't feel the disclaimer is adequate.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Not for the the faint of heart or narrow of mind, K. F. Breene weaves a sexy, snarky tale of magical mayhem. 25 janvier 2014
Par Up All Night Novels - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
First off, let me say that I personally LOVE an author who isn’t afraid to push the envelope and take readers outside of their comfort zone. Couple that with a strong sense of sarcastic wit and humorous dialog, and you’ve got K. F. Breene. This was my first Breene title, but it certainly will not be my last.

Sasha, an orphan raised in the foster system, always alone, always knowing she’s different has finally found a place where she can almost fully trust another person. Her boyfriend Jared has been her first everything. But she’s keeping secrets, lest he have her committed for seeing things no one else can. A dinner date leads to disaster when suddenly, Sasha and Jared find themselves on the wrong side of the tracks, cornered by two brutish shadow beings, overflowing with potent pheromones and intent on having their way with Sasha and Jared. Only Sasha doesn’t succumb to the overwhelming lure of their pheromones. Puzzled by this human’s ability to not be ensnared in their web of seduction, “the Boss” orders the pair to be returned home safely and their memories wiped. Unfortunately, Sasha’s memories don’t stay buried, and she’s forced to go looking for answers to whom these beings are and why she feels such an undeniable pull towards the Boss.

Breene gracefully puts her characters through hell, with an outstanding unique style. Her protagonist Sasha is strong and adaptable without being bitchy as we watch her evolve before our eyes from being secure in her insecurities to taking her destiny by the horns. Oh, and did I mention it’s STEAMY? Sorry ladies, but this is NOT for the under 18 crowd. These shadow beings are purely and potently sexual. Its their nature, like any other predator, and they act indiscriminately, a task which Breene handles beautifully and maturely, addressing it for what it is, without over sensationalizing or being outlandishly graphic.

I read this in record time considering my presently hectic schedule. I could. not. get. enough. If you’re anything like me, you will be salivating for the sequel.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loved this book! 7 février 2014

This has been one of the best vampire romance novels I have read in awhile. It's fun interesting and well written. The only problem I had with the book was the "back cover" blurb I almost didn't read it because it totally didn't sound interesting, but I am so glad I did. The heroine is funny and fearless (a little bit reckless) and she didn't whine through half the book. Anyone who likes paranormal romance will love this book it's fantastic!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Intriguing, mysterious, and sexy 29 janvier 2014

First I do need to say this book contains sexual content so isn't for young readers or those who prefer more streamlined books. What I enjoyed most about this book is the way it grabbed my attention and held it throughout the whole book. It was action packed, had mystery, intrigue, and a good overall flow of character development and plot. This book is the first in the Darkness series by K. F. Breene and I would recommend reading it before any others in the series, even though the next comes out in March of 2014. The reason behind this recommendation is due to the way the book is written, I don't believe you will have the full grasp of the story without first reading the first book. As for other works by K. F. Breene, I can't comment as this is the first I have read from this author. I do know he has a contest going and a decent website at [...] If you act fast you can probably get this first book for free, as I did. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Couldn't finish this poorly written book 19 mai 2014

Hear me all you indie authors, for I find this particular error in at least every other book--I never knew these words were used so often: "horde" and "hoard" are homonyms, not synonyms. It takes me out of the story to have to mentally re-write your books so that they make sense.

I'm not usually completely stumped, though, as I was initially here by "The maw issued forth a swarm of insects in a plumb...." A plumb, like a plumb-bob? That's nonsensical. You mean a plum? No, that doesn't make any sense either. A "plume," maybe? I'm still not sure, but I went with that. It's used repeatedly, so I had to just hope "plume" conveyed the author's intent.

But why should I have had to? Authors are supposed to convey their own ideas--it's kind of the point of writing something, isn't it?--not depend on their readers to read their minds and clean up after them. And having to do so an average of once per page is ridiculous. Did Ms. Breene not have any literate friends she could run this by before publication? Loads of misspelled words and errant commas appear as well.

I'm on to the next author and offering, ever optimistic.

~ Susan
