Gary U.S. Bonds sounding like Wilson Pickett - ALL GOOD! 2 août 2004
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur Amazon.com
If you just got this album for the song "Fannie Mae" it would be worth it.... it should get nominated for a Grammy as the "kick-ass party soul song of the year"...seriously! Bonds sound a lot like Wilson Pickett circa 1968 on this album which is danged fine thing to sould like. It sounds like it was recorded live with everyone playing at once. You don't get this sort of down-home soul sound with spankin clean digital recording. Got to get dirty and sweaty to sound this good. I got this album because I just got around to watching the Blues Bros. 2000 movie, which isn't very good, but worth watching just to see the musicians and hear the music. Bonds is in the final Battle of the Bands scene and takes a fine solo vocal. I hope this album finds an audience because it deserves to be heard...and danced to.

Great comeback at least 20 years to late 27 avril 2006
Par Soulboogiealex - Publié sur Amazon.com
The title Back in Twenty is an artist making fun of his own career. Although Gary "US" Bonds hasn't been gone for twenty years, he released an excellent live album few years back, this is the first studio effort since the Springsteen endorsed albums of the eighties. Springsteen was not involved in the production of this album aside from him playing guitar and singing background on the opening track. The album is an exiting event nonetheless.

Like the opening track You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks warns us, nothing new is to be expected. The record even sounds more of a straightforward R&B effort than his legendary Legrand singles. This doesn't stop Bonds one minute. The record sounds exciting and joyous. Gary is committed to the music and his voice is in very good shape. It even gained some grit over the years. The new grainy voice suits tracks like Bitch/Dumb Ass with Phoebe Snow and Every Time I Roll the Dice, to a tee. When Gary tackles Otis Redding's Dreams to Remember we are once again reminded that he was one of R&R great unfulfilled promises.

BACK IN 20 - Worth The Wait !! 28 juin 2004

A great CD by the ledgendary US Bonds. Catches the energy as felt in the live shows and is a definite show case for his party sounds, now with a touch of the blues. Get this CD and see him the next time he's in town.

I used to work at The Stone Pony back in the early 80s and last night's live show at BB King's Blues Club was phenomenal! Gary still gets it done & with Southside Johnny & the Jukes as a kicker, the memories flooded back big time. The album is fabulous & in particular "Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks" with Bruce, "Fannie Mae" with Southside, & covers of Otis Redding's "Dreams to Remember" and Delbert McClinton's (I think1?) "Everytime I Roll The Dice" are standouts. Gary & the Roadhouse Rockers did all these in his show & had us jammed against the stage screaming for more! We truly would have "DANCED 'TIL QUARTER TO 3!" (Yep, Gary played that too!) :-)

Saw Gary and the US Bonds perform their new songs at the Stone Pony. Renewed my interest of his band. This CD is the best ever! Thanks, Gary, for showing us that our generation can still rock n roll.
