Présentation de l'éditeur

Since its release in 2009 Israeli Apartheid: A Beginner’s Guide has become an essential primer for undergraduate students and activists getting to grips with the Palestine/Israel conflict for the first time. Ben White skilfully distills the work of academics and experts into a highly accessible introduction.

This new updated and expanded edition includes information on the Israeli blockade and attacks on the Gaza Strip since 2008, new policies targeting Palestinian citizens of Israel and the growth of the global Boycott Divestment Sanctions campaign.

Packed with vital information, quotations and resources,
Israeli Apartheid never loses the human touch. The book is rooted in the author’s extensive personal experience in Palestine and includes testimonies by Palestinians describing how Israeli apartheid affects their daily lives.

Ben White is a researcher and analyst at the Middle East Monitor and Journal of Palestine Studies. He is the author of Palestinians in Israel: Segregation, Discrimination and Democracy (Pluto, 2011) and has written for the Guardian, New Statesman and Al Jazeera.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A Strong Introduction to This Issue 2 octobre 2014
Par freedom78 - Publié sur
Ben White's "Israeli Apartheid" is a fairly short book on the subject of Israeli-Palestinian relations, but it is a dense one in the evidence of its condemnation of Israeli practices. The book includes three formal chapters, in addition to an introduction and a nice FAQ section to conclude the text. Here's what to expect:

Introduction --- a discussion of the idea of apartheid, a comparison of Israel to South Africa's apartheid regime, and a discussion of how the two are quite different

Chapter 1 --- the issue of early 20th century Jewish settling of Israel and efforts by pre-statehood Zionist organizations to take widespread control of the land, leading up to Israeli Independence and the Nakba, which included large scale transfers of the Palestinian population to the West Bank, Gaza, and surrounding Arab states. Most important here are White's efforts to demonstrate that this was a widespread, government endorsed, systematic effort.

Chapter 2 --- the use of domestic laws to create a Palestinian racial sub-class and policies of settlement, land seizure, water seizure, security walls, and military interventions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Chapter 3 --- addresses the question of what can be done and details some real world efforts to change the politics of apartheid.

FAQ --- raises some common criticisms leveled at anyone who takes a critical approach to Israel, from antisemitism to defense and security to "but the Arab states are worse". White responds to each of these criticisms.

Overall, this book was well done and very informative. The third chapter was a bit thin and not terribly useful, but the meat of the book, Chapters 1-2, was well researched, bringing in information from Israel's "new historians", legal rulings, speeches and commentary by leaders, and many other sources to provide evidence that there is a long standing Israeli governmental policy of exclusion and subjugation of the Palestinian population both within and outside of Israel's ever shifting borders.

The shills and apologists are quick to dismiss this work. Often citing having been to Israel as some sort of proof that its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. That's the same as claiming that there is no sectarian violence in Mexico because you went to South Padre once.

It's apparent to me how American media whitewashes the situation in conflict torn countries to support whatever agenda they need to peddle that week. This book lifts the blindfold on just one of the many of the atrocities perpetrated against the lower classes for the benefit of the elite. Watch the movie Five Broken Cameras if you want a first person perspective into life of a Palestinian.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. Ben White tells the truth and unfortunately for blind supporters of Israel, the truth is hard to handle because they don't want to deal with its reality.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 It was horrible. So biased and full of hatred 17 août 2014

I borrowed this book from a friend. I read just a few pages. It was horrible. So biased and full of hatred. If you really want to learn about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict , you should invest your money on more reliable books based on historical facts . Ignore such book !
