Présentation de l'éditeur

Sinning never felt so good…

A fortuitous encounter.

A meeting that should never have happened.

Many years ago, two children from completely different worlds forged a connection, a fateful connection, an unbreakable bond that would change their lives forever…

Salome knows only one way to live—under Prophet David’s rule. In the commune she calls home, Salome knows nothing of life beyond her strict faith, nor of life beyond the Fence—the fence that cages her, keeps her trapped in an endless cycle of misery. A life she believes she is destined to always lead, until a horrific event sets her free.

Fleeing the absolute safety of all she has ever known, Salome is thrust into the world outside, a frightening world full of uncertainty and sin; into the protective arms of a person she believed she would never see again.

River ‘Styx’ Nash knows one thing for certain in life—he was born and bred to wear a cut. Raised in a turbulent world of sex, Harleys, and drugs, Styx, unexpectedly has the heavy burden of the Hades Hangmen gavel thrust upon him, and all at the ripe old age of twenty-six—much to his rivals’ delight.

Haunted by a crushing speech impediment, Styx quickly learns to deal with his haters. Powerful fists, an iron jaw and the skillful use of his treasured German blade has earned him a fearsome reputation as a man not to be messed with in the shadowy world of outlaw MC’s. A reputation that successfully keeps most people far, far away.

Styx has one rule in life—never let anyone get too close. It’s a plan that he has stuck to for years, that is, until a young woman is found injured on his lot… a woman who looks uncannily familiar, a woman who clearly does not belong in his world, yet a woman he feels reluctant to let go…

Dark Contemporary Romance/New Adult Novel.

Contains sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and mature topics. Recommended for age 18 years and up*

I'm a big fan of Tillie Cole's work. I loved her other three books, the humor, the banter and glittery sidekick. Cherry on top: hot strong alpha male character (each time I'm a gonner ...).

Well It Ain't Me babe is really different but still very, very good.
It's deep, violent, sometimes awful with atrocities commited within the sect (rape of children). But above all else is the desperate need of a boy/man to find and protect his girl. Strong alpha male here I come!

The plot:
Mae (Salome) has only known a reclusive life in the midst of Prophet David's sect. Under pretense of saving the world and atoning for women's sins, the elders use and abuse women. The most beautiful are no better than sex slaves since childhood.

When Mae meets River (Styx) she is eight and has been deeply shocked by what's been done to her. It all happens in that moment, when two opposite worlds collide. And she fall hard for the mute biker boy.
Fifteen years later, she escapes the commune in tragical circomstances. Dying and unconscious, she is saved by Styx aka River. Stix is now the Hangmen's President an outlaw MC. Hot as Hell and merciless, he has sinned in many ways all his violent life and knows no other way to live. Feared by all, the Hangmen Mute is putty in Mae's hands. She is the girl with the Wolf's Eyes, never forgotten, his impossible dream. All muscles, tatoos and testosterone, Styx is ready to kill anyone threatening Mae.

But here comes the crux: how could a girl like Mae fit in his world? Mae is like an innocent newborn child in so many ways. She does not know what a TV or a bike is and has sex slave conditioning. Torn, Styx does not want to taint her but is desperate to be with her.

Mae is beautiful and pure.

A lire absolument!

I could not build any compassion or likening with/to the characters in the story. It started out ok, and at some point in time I thought it actually turned out to be really stupid and yucky. I am not sure when that exactly happened... when our 26 year old superhero turned mass murderer killed a dozen Nazis or when he actually cut a Swastika in an innocent man's chest after his buddies beat him. The female does not move me at all. She seems so utterly "good" it's awful and she effs like a pro even after years of rape and trauma. On top you have people licking bloody knives and ... mass rapes (in attempt to keep a story interesting?) and rapes of children. It's just to much and over the top. Book was returned for refund... and I rarely do that.

FIVE+++++ HUGE STARS!

"If this made me a sinner, then I was glad to be a fallen"

Ok. I honestly don't know where to start. I'm in freaking AWE of this writer...just pure...utter...awe. I'm a massive fan of Tillie Cole, and this story just solidifies why I love her stories so much. She has taken a big risk writing this because it is extremely different from her previous work. This is NOT your typical MC story. Oh, no. There are so many other elements that make it stand out.

Please be warned - This is a bit on the darker and edgier side, but that just makes it even more unique. This is phenomenal!!

"The one thing that stops people ripping on you for being a mute p* is being a coldblooded psychopath with fists of iron."

The story of Styx and Salome ("Mae") first began when he was only eleven and she eight. Styx stumbled upon Mae while his father, the president of the Hades Hangmen, was taking care of club business. He saw her behind a massive fence and she seemed very distressed. Styx, for the most part, is mute. The only persons he feels comfortable talking to are his father and his best friend, Ky. But there was something about the beautiful girl with the blue wolf eyes that made him want to try to loosen the python in his throat and talk to her. Regardless of the few words they shared a kiss and an instant connection was made between the two. However, finding her again proved to be nearly impossible.

Fifteen years later we find Mae escaping the commune. Fate then delivers her right in front of the Hangmen's club door. Something about this mysterious woman reminded Styx of the girl with the wolf eyes; the girl whom he has never forgotten. She can't be the girl, can she?

When he finds out the mystery woman is indeed Mae, all he wants to do is keep and protect her. He's never felt a connection like this before and he doesn't quite know what to do. As the President of the MC, he wants to do right by her. Mae is so innocent and so confused by this new world, he knew that once she finds out exactly what he does, she will be further frightened. He has no choice but to keep his distance.

"I-I've killed p-p-people. I-I've even l-liked it, and" - I knew I was bringing the final death blow - "I'll d-do it again. Y-you want someone g-g-good to take c-care of you. I-it ain't me, babe."

I was very torn by Styx's character. I felt a lot of things for him: Love, empathy, and even frustration. The way he tried to drive Mae away was a bit hard to take. It was this decision that ultimately leads to further complications down the road, particularly when one of his MC brothers, Rider, falls for Mae himself.

"Styx was sin; Rider was peace."

Oh, Rider. My feelings for him were so conflicted. I loved him and my heart ached for him. His unrequited love for Mae was purely heartbreaking. He was entrusted with looking out for Mae while Styx was away on club business. The two became very close friends, but Rider eventually fell head over heels in love with Mae. I cried for him, but as the story progressed, the secrets behind Rider truly took me by surprise. My heart still aches when I think of him.

""I thought you said, `it ain't you who's meant for me'?"
He laughed. He rarely laughed, but when he did, I rejoiced at the sound of it: husky, deep...male. "Oh, it's me, babe...Ain't no other man for you...but me.""

I'm a massive fan of Greek Mythology and so it was inevitable that I would be so enamored by Styx and Salome's characters. The parallel references to Hades/Persephone were very prevalent in the story and both characters really reflected the meaning/curse of their namesake.

As for Mae, well, she was a strong heroine. As I told Tills, "she was patience, love, beauty and forgiveness personified" - regardless of the horrific things she went through at the commune. Only a woman like her could reach a man like Styx.

Sigh...

This is seriously one of the best stories I have ever read. It was just so unique and so brilliantly written. This can be read as a standalone, but the author has definitely left the door open for some more. And, baby, I'm aching for more.

Freaking loved it!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 LOVED IT 4 mai 2014

I seriously loved Sweet Home and Sweet Rome, by Tillie Cole. So, I was excited to add It’s Ain’t Me, Babe to my ‘to be read list’. I found the synopsis to be super intriguing, especially with my minor (okay sometimes major) obsession with bikers, biker clubs, and MC books lately.

Styx Nash has been a part of the biker world his whole life and now at a young age is the new Prez of his MC- Hades Hangmen. Having a speech impediment, in order to maintain respect from everyone around him, Styx finds it easier to be mute; which has given him a fearful reputation of being the Hangmen Mute. He has only been able to speak to three people in his life- his dad, his best friend and the VP of the MC, Ky, and a little girl that he met as a child and that still haunts his dreams.

Salome “Mae” was raised in a commune/cult believing that the outside world was full of evil. After a horrific event, Mae is able to escape and ends up severely wounded in Styx’s back yard. Terrified, near death, and believing that she ended up in hell (with Hade’s painted all over the walls) Styx is the only thing that makes her feel safe. Realizing that Styx is the boy that Mae met years ago, their childhood connection brings them back together and she feels protected in his arms.

“You have light within you, Styx, and I feel it shining through like the rays of the midday sun. It is beautiful. You are a good man.”

Wow- this was like David Koresh and the Branch Davidians (which I remember years ago being glued to the TV watching all the news coverage) meets Sons of Anarchy (which I am OBSESSED with). Okay, it is totally wrong that I secretly wish I was an old lady in an MC!?! Yes, there is violence and lots of sexual situations in this book- after all it does take place mostly inside a MC and with bikers. I should have probably felt like some of the things that the Hangmen did was wrong, but in a twisted way it was all justified in my mind. I was completely disgusted by the actions of the disciples and the whole commune, but sadly this stuff does take place. Of course, with the premise of this book it is expected there would be a lot of drama and conflict. I loved seeing the changes that Mae brought to Styx; he was so gentle and loving with her, when he was so different to everyone else. With the way that the book concluded, I hope that there will be additional books about the other members of Hades Hangmen and that this story continues. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

He cupped my cheeks. “ Babe…you’re my best… kinda therapy.”

4.0 étoiles sur 5 YAY FOR ORIGINALITY!! 28 avril 2014

It Ain't Me, Babe is definitely original. It's so different from all of the MC books flooding the market. But it also has some of the elements that you love about MC books: Possessiveness check, filthy language check, jealousy check, funny and sexy fellow MC members check, H is a jerk for the first half of the book check.

This book is filled with religion and Greek mythology. At first the terminology was kind of hard to swallow. That an MC would follow such beliefs and the way they spoke was hard to get used to. But I did.

Halfway through the book there were a few eye roll worthy moments but Mae was so sheltered and naïve that I tried to be patient and understanding with her actions. But the twists that came toward the end more than made up for any annoying moments.

I can't really give any characterization without giving away a lot of the plot. If you like MC books and are looking for a unique storyline you won't be disappointed.

Although there's not really a cliffhanger, the book leaves with you the impression there will be more. I really hope so. I highly recommend!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Not the Best MC Book 4 mai 2014

Im sorry this book just fell a bit short as an MC book in my honest opinion. There are a few things that irked me while reading and then skimming the rest of this book. Obviously the author really did do research into religious cults but its quite evident she hasnt spent time at a clubhouse. Not that you would have to to write this book, but there was dialog and bickering between the members that would not be tolerated by most people. Especially a club prez. Questioning and second guessing his orders is not tolerated. There was way too much bickering between all of them. In fact, I will easily say, the women in this book acted more like strong men. The men all acted like lovesick teenagers. Very immature and hard to get behind. Plot twists took this book in a direction you could see coming a mile away like a mac truck. There are a lot of great reviews here for this book. Im so sorry that I just cant believe this story is captivating and romantic at all. At times its a bit disturbing and really sad. They are all damaged in some way and need redemption. They unfortunately dont get redeemed int his book.
