Description de l'ouvrage

1 octobre 2006
“A whole lot of initiations happen every day. You hear about them on the news, but you don’t know it was an initiation. You hear about somebody getting shot somewhere in New York, and nobody knows why that person got shot; nine times out of ten it was a gang initiation. I am a three-star general in the Bloods, so I know what’s going on. The majority of crime in New York City is ’cause of gangs; drugs, killings, stabbings, robberies, even the bullshit car theft, the fucking pettiest crimes and misdemeanors are all ’cause of gangs.”
—Kasino, from his testimonial in It’s All Good

A gritty, graphic, and gripping exposé of the underworld and its inhabitants, It’s All Good, the first monograph by Boogie, presents the predators and the prey in the drug game today. Shot in New York City’s most notorious neighborhoods—Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Queensbridge—Boogie gained intimate access into a world few dare to venture, a world closed to outsiders, a world of crackheads, junkies, and gangsters. From the cops patrolling the project roofs to the addicts overdosing on the streets, It’s All Good chronicles ghetto life in stark, heart-stopping images and intense testimonials. Boogie brings us to a place few will leave and most will stay, a place where escape is one rock, one shot, one glock away.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Amazing body of work! 1 novembre 2006

I can't think of many things scarier than confronting half cocked teenagers pointing fully cocked automatic weapons at me.

Boogie did what very few photographers could do and somehow worked his way into being trusted by people who usually

trust no one. In the old days a kid might know where to buy a Saturday night special for $40 but he didn't own a machine gun! I don't know how Boogie was able to walk into these projects, but I'm glad he managed to walk out.

The book was designed very well and each combination of pictures was well thought out. The book is broken into many different

sections with detailed descriptions of the people who were photographed. The first half of the book focuses on many drug addicts with amazing images of their homes and family. There are great photos of the young kids who are living with parents who will

probably die before they grow up.

Then the book turns to the teenage gang members, most of whom will never find a way out of the projects or the violent lives

that they have been born into. This book is a look at a small group of people you'd otherwise not have the privilege of observing.

Boogie has risked everything to put this book into print and hopefully will receive the recognition which he truly deserves.

This book changed my life. Simple and plain. It's what I have been looking for, for ages. Boogie is a master at what he does. The pictures are phenominal and the stories go great with the book and really set the mood and imprint the whole book into your head. As a street photographer, I look up to Boogie more than anyone. And this book has be a huge inspiration and push for me. I definetly recomend this book. Big ups to Boogie for his efforts! One.

I remember the first time I flipped through this book it gave me chills. It took my third viewing to get adjusted to the images but it's one thing I'll say is that when boogie takes photographs, you feel it. Whether it's positive or negative, the images speak to you. I'm a bit familiar with his work and he never fails to deliver.

This is a great book with nice pictures telling a real story! The photographer has put together his pictures page next to page with eye for detail, contrasts and storytelling. The written stories are vivid and an amplification for the pictures.

It's not printed on glossy paper and that's a pity for the quality of the pictures. (but maybe there are some limited editions printed on glossy paper...)

Nevertheless great book and a must have for your collection!
