My only complaint about this book is that it when it talks about the difference between circumcised and uncircumcised. You can not be uncircumcised. You are born with an intact forskin. It was surgically removed if you were circumcised. I am not an un amputee.... The correct term is intact. The book also says either way is "perfectly normal" It is not perfectly normal. It is a cultural norm that we have come to expect in newborn babes. That does not make it "perfectly normal"

I am reading this book with my daughter as part of our human body unit (we homeschool) some of the pictures were graphic in a cartoon sort , but you have to expect this in a book on "eggs, sperm, birth, babies and families" right?! The information was present in a factual way with out being overwhelming. It does use anatomical terms to describe body parts (yeah!!) Over all I am very impressed with this book. I will recommend it to anyone who is wanting to teach a full unit on reproduction and not just the "birds and the bees"

topics included:
How do babies really begin
Reproduction
Same and Different (outside genitals)
Growing up
Whats inside and Out (genitals)
Amazing Egg Trip
Amazing Sperm
What is Sex
What is love
The big race (egg and sperm meet)
Pregnancy
the growing fetus
Twins and more
Birth
Genes
Becoming a family through birth and adoption
Keeping safe
Talk about HIV and STI's

This book is just wonderful! 25 janvier 2015

I can't recommend this book enough! This book was recommended to me and others by "A Mighty Girl" website and their recommendations are always very good. I have 9 year old daughter (3rd grade) and figured it was about time to have a more informative talk about the birds and the bees than we had casually had in the past. We had never really covered periods, the male body, eggs and sperm and how the sperm gets to the egg in any of our previous conversations. This book made covering those topics comfortable and so much easier that I thought it would be. The layout is one that my daughter was immediately drawn to because it looks like a comic book. Lots of pictures and small blurbs of words/information. When she saw it, she immediately wanted to read it with me - even knowing what the book was about. The content is informative, straight to the point and thoughtful. I do agree that some of the vocabulary was difficult for my daughter but I am a strong believer that you should use the correct medical terms for parts of the body and often the book provides alternative "every day" words the children would be familiar with. One interesting aspect of the book was that it did not shy away from covering the difference between heterosexuality and homosexuality, providing definitions and explanations for both (in addition to gay and lesbian). This information was provided in a factual way without commentary which allowed for me to go into more detail about people, acceptance, compassion and tolerance in addition to addressing differing opinions about homosexuality (which I felt was important since my daughter goes to a Catholic school and at some point will be exposed to a different view than the one I shared with her). The book is recommended for children 7 to 10. My daughter would not have been ready for this book at ages 7 or 8 but I believe that other children could be. I was concerned that having "the talk" with my daughter would put a small wedge between us (as the one I felt after my mom had the talk with me) but instead this book did the opposite.

I love reading this book to my 3 year old and he loves it too. It is a very age appropriate book that shares great information for children about their bodies. Great illustrations as well.

So far, educational. Some illustrations could be better. 15 septembre 2014

Gave this book to my curious 8-year-old daughter who reads well on her own and analyzes ideas. She read areas of interest, told me what she observed, and then asked me questions. I use the book to drive our conversation. One thing that was a disappointment was the diagram of the female genitalia. The image is a cartoon that fails to clearly label the three "holes," so she was still under the impression that a woman "poops out" a baby. Sheesh! The whole point of a book like this is to help the education of the urethra, vagina, and anus! Please fix that illustration to be more clear. Thus, 4 instead of 5 stars. She's still reading, and her twin hasn't expressed interest yet. We'll update the review.

Highly recommend It's So Amazing 28 novembre 2014

Bought this book for my nine year old daughter. It was perfect. It is interesting enough to hold her attention. It explains the details of puberty, intercourse, and conception clearly. It explains the details in an accurate but appropriate manner for young children. I am very pleased and highly recommend it.
