This book is about the recipes of different ethnic and cultural groups in America: from Navajo to NY Jewish. I've tried one Navajo recipe and it was absolutely amazing (Three Sisters Lamb Stew: add the white beans, the third sister: it seems to me that they were forgotten in the description). I cooked the dish 2 evenings in a row for my guests and everybody was impressed by the recipe. I also tried a Southern salad with pecan nuts. Also excellent. I'm definitely going to try other recipes in this book! Very original and different from most cooking books on America. Forget cupcakes in 12 flavors and ham in coke. A lot of hearty meals and salads. Mexican inspired street food, Louisiana food, NY Chinatown food, some sauce recipes (I made Jamie's barbecue sauce which was great, a bit sweet maybe but you can adjust it to your taste) etc...
So let me repeat this: this book is about street food, not gourmet cuisine. It requires some reasonable effort. It's not about the "US classics", like we know them in Europe.
If you want to discover a less known side of American cuisine, go for it!
