Biographie de l'auteur

Dagny Taggart is a language enthusiast and polyglot who travels the world, inevitably picking up more and more languages along the way. Taggart's true passion became learning languages after she realized the incredible connections with people that it fostered. Now she just can't get enough of it. Although it's taken time, she has acquired vast knowledge on the best and fastest ways to learn languages. But the truth is, she is driven simply by her motive to build exceptional links and bonds with others. She is inspired everyday by the individuals she meets across the globe. For her, there's simply not anything as rewarding as practicing languages with others because she gets to make friends with people from all that come from a variety of cultures. This, in turn, has broadened her mind and thinking more than she would have ever imagined it could. Of course, as a result of her constant travels, Taggart has become an expert on planning trips and making the most of time spent out of what she calls her "base" town. She jokes that she's practically at the nomad status now, but she's more content to live that way. She knows how to live on a manageable budget weather she's in Paris or Phnom Penh. She knows how to seek out the adventures and thrills, no doubt, lying in wait at any city she visits. She knows that reflection on each every experience is significant if she wants to grow as a traveler and student of the world's cultures. Because of this, Taggart chooses to share her understanding of languages and travel so that others, too, can experience the same life-altering benefits she has. Thanks for reading! I'll see you inside one of my books, Dagny

I genuinely like the format but was disappointed to find mistakes on nearly every page. Some simple ones I noticed immediately, like using the wrong kana for a translation. After noticing a few, I asked my Japanese girlfriend to take a look. The amount of errors she found, from merely arcane phrases to downright wrong grammar and spelling, took her some time to correct. As a novice speaker, I'm glad I didn't confuse myself by reading the book alone.

This guide has actually helped me learn quite a bit about Japanese and how the language is structured. It is a basic introduction that helped me to understand the most important elements of the language. I know I won't be fluent by any means after working with this ebook, but it is a good place to start. I would recommend this ebook to anyone totally new to the Japanese language and looking for an easy to follow introduction.

I very much enjoyed the book, and all of the content in it. When I was in Japan for two weeks (before I read the book) I would definitely say that knowing the phrases and situations he teaches are absolutely useful, and relevant to anyone traveling, or staying in Japan for a few weeks. Now, while the majority of the book is done well, I definitely had my frustrations. I will know list them here:

I found many spelling errors and translation errors all throughout the book. Sometimes hiragana characters were wrong, or incorrect words were used.nI only know this because I wasn't a brand new learner coming into this book. I already knew about 400 words, all of the phonetic alphabets, and the kanji for those 400 words. All the errors really threw me off.

Even more so, the formatting is really off for me as well. I read this whole book on an iPad Air 2, and many times formatting would change just by alternating pages back and forth. Furthermore, all of the tables are not formatted properly for optimal viewing, even when in landscape mode (as the book suggests). They definitely are still readable, but ultimately it's very difficult to find the information again, especially since it may not be formatted the same way as when you first saw it. I think that there definitely needs to be a quality check on this book for sure. And, it really shouldn't take long.

But, as I said, it is a really great book for beginners. It really pushes you away from romaji right from the start, making you have to learn the phonetic alphabets in order to progress. Having to use those is the easiest way to memorize them, so I definitely agree to not use romaji as a crutch. I think many people will definitely need to have some practice outside of just reading the book before they feel confident in their abilities, but it's such a great building block.

I hope my review has been thorough enough for everyone, and anyone who wants to learn should definitely pick this book up!

Title is misleading but is still a good read.
3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good in conjunction with other resources 15 avril 2015

This is a solid introduction, but is missing a little context. When combined with other resources, like Rosetta Stone, the examples here reinforce what I'd learned elsewhere. My biggest complaint with the kindle version is the formatting: there are a number of tables in the kindle version that are impossible to read easily.
