Ouvrage parfait pour l'approche et la compréhension du travail du guitariste de jazz.
Chaque morceau est détaillé en 4 parties :
* la mélodie de base du morceau
* l'accompagnement mélodique du morceau (pour jouer seul).
* l'accompagnement à la pompe ( pour accompagner les autres musiciens)
* une proposition de chorus

Excellent ouvrage, nécessitant un travail personnel.
Il n'y a pas de support CD, mais les morceaux correspondent aux enregistrements les plus connus.

The Best Guitar Song Book 2 juillet 2006
Par Nazdar - Publié sur
Format: Partition Achat vérifié
This book, along with its companion book "Jazz Guitar Stadards II," are the best song books I've seen for the serious jazz guitarist. Each standard has four separate arangements - word melody lead sheet, chord melody solo, comping etude backup. and single note jazz improvisation melody. Among these arangements, there are many options from which any guitarist can pick and chose their own desired approach to each song. I have concentrated on the chord melody arrangements, which I found quite chalenging, but are well worth the effort. With the exception of the word melody, the arrangements are presented in both regular music and TAB formats. This combination definitely makes it easier to master very difficult fingering movements. All chord names are also included, so students can learn to associate the finger patterns with the correct chord designation.

I believe this song book to be aimed at the advanced amateur.

First try at perfection 24 octobre 2008

I bought this book because the second volume of this series was simply amazing. If you play professionally (like I do) at restaurants, lounges, etc. and need complete arrangements of jazz standards, this is the best book/format I've ever seen. From a guitarists point of view this book and it's arrangements are flawless.

BUT...I sing also, and the second volume contained lyrics for all the songs (when applicable), this book contains no lyrics at all. Since volume 2 was so good I found that a little disappointing. They must have realized their mistake which explains the inclusion of lyrics in the second volume.

This book/series is great because it contains: A fake book/cut down version of the song, an arrangement to accompany a vocalist or instrumental soloist, a chord melody solo, and a lead solo for each song. All the building blocks you need for any jazz situation.

If you are a guitarist this is a must buy, if you sing too get the 2nd volume first.

Great book for good guitarists or those who are willing to work 29 août 2008

This book has great arrangements of jazz standards. You can approach this as rote learning of these songs, and come away with a great jazz repertoire. Spend a little more time absorbing the changes, and the "improvisations" and you'll add a lot to your knowledge and techniques. I'm buying the second volume today.
A pleasant surprise 8 janvier 2014

Okay, I admit it- when it comes to instructional guitar books, I'm a market they can't glut. I've got 'em stacked up on my desk, on the floor, and on a wall of shelves five feet high. I carry them around in my car. I read them on coffee breaks and at the donut shop. That doesn't mean I buy just any old thing, though. Jazz Guitar Standards was a publication that met my expectations in every respect- quality, organization, and sophistication. All the tunes in the book are standards we all should know, and you get a lead sheet, a comping etude, a chord solo, and a melodic improvisation. Corey Christiansen, a teacher I greatly admire, put this together. It's already boosted me up a couple of levels, and it will do that for you, too. Did I like it? Well, I bought Volume II, so I must have. I hope it gets your mojo on like it did mine.
Very good guitar study 31 juillet 2014

Jazz Guitar Standards and Jazz Guitar Standards II are both great books and I would recommend their purchase over other jazz standard books for guitar. Mel Bay ups the ante here on its competitors. The books really dissect each of the songs presented. I bought these books specifically for the chord melody arrangements. Be warned that playing the arrangements as written is not easy. I find many of the fingerings difficult with an occasional four fret stretcher. So I know I will have to adapt and simplify the chordal arrangements to actually play them at my skill level. You may find you need to do this also. But what I like most about these two books is that the chord melody arrangements are written so they can be played by pick. Overall, a very good guitar study of each song.
