In his spare time he enjoys tennis, mountain biking and is a member of a local amateur theater group.

I used to be one of those people who no matter how much they tried they couldn't lose weight, and because of that I was quite unhappy. It is okay if you are fat and you're not trying to bleed away your extra pounds, but when you've been trying to lose them for too long, going through painful experiences, and nothing happens, that can destroy your life. It almost destroyed mine.

The reason I use the word Fat and not Overweight here is because that's the way I used to see myself. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw a fat woman. And I saw a desperate woman. My nonstop efforts to get thinner have taken their toll. I was big and yet I seemed to be collapsing. I was still young but I looked as if I was growing older by the hour, by the day. What could I do to change that, I didn't know; thank god my daughter did.

So she started searching the web for answers and soon enough she had them. She downloaded this book and offered it to me on the plate, or rather the tablet. I'd heard of this diet before, but it was one I never tried because, well, it didn't make too much sense to me at the time. But I now had nothing left to lose so off I went and started practicing it. The results came fast and took me by surprise. I started burning fat by the day, and before too long my body started looking, and feeling of course, much better. This diet changed my life.

This is a quick read for an intro to ketogenic diets. The author looks at both strict keo diets as well as cyclic ketogenic diets, such as for those who wish to add carbs when they exercise. I don't personally agree this is necessary, but the author explains the concepts quite well. The main quibble I have with this book is nearly half of the book is recipes and the recipes are not at all what I would classify as "keto". According to the nutrition information given for each recipe, most of them contain over 20 g carbohydrates per serving. The book recommends 30 g carbohydrates/day, so including recipes with that many carbs doesn't make sense. One recipe has 8 slices whole grain bread as an ingredient! So buy or borrow this book for the first half, but be very careful and use common sense if you want to use any of the recipes in the second half of the book.

People say that in most cases we are the worst enemies of our selves; we act in strange ways that lead us to dangerous paths, we do, time and again, things we should avoid, and we eat like there's no tomorrow. Obesity is a big problem, but I didn't realize how big it was until I became obese myself and started feeling its side-effects. For a long period I couldn't breathe normally, my sleep schedule was disturbed, I felt tired all the time and didn't even have the energy to perform some of the simplest chores of my everyday life. I was heading to disaster and I knew it, but for some reason I just couldn't stop myself from doing it as, the truth is, I found solace in food.

And then came the day that I collapsed and was rushed to the hospital; the day that I've finally decided to turn my life around and go on a diet. Taking the decision was easy, but nobody really believed that I'd follow through with it because they knew me, almost as well as I did. I guess it was my love of eating that made me choose this diet. Perhaps it also has something to do with the author's authoritative voice. Reading the book made me believe, following the diet proved my intuition right. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is take the first step. Thanks to this guide I did much more than that and I'd be ungrateful if I failed to mention it. It set right my many wrongs.

This book was BETTER than those which shall remain nameless. It's a no nonsense book delivered in easy to understand language. The Ketogenic Diet is not a CRASH diet, but rather a lifestyle change.

How does somebody choose which diet to follow? I think that it would be fair to assume that most people follow diets of their own design, which for some reason almost always seem to fail, while others visit nutritionists that create specific diet plans for them that are not only time-consuming but also hard to follow. What did I do when I decided to go on a diet? I did the obvious, I've put my faith on a book, and I wasn't disappointed.

Books don't have to be holy for someone to believe in them. They do have to be well-written, and in this case well-researched, and to make sense though. Once they put out an argument they should be able to follow through. They should answer all the questions and if the need arises create some new. They should excite the reader but most importantly make them think. The voice of the author is a key element. If it's not convincing everything could fall apart. The voice here is convincing and the arguments are well-made, and that's why I've decided to follow the diet at hand.

I know that most people see what a diet promises and if they feel that it can fulfill their needs then they follow it. I am not like most people I guess, since for me the most important thing is knowledge. Does the author know the subject well? How well? Is there proof of that knowledge? For me going on a diet is not reading recipes and then cooking them, but an experience that takes in everything and turns it around: our lives, our habits, our erroneous ways.

When I started on this diet I knew more or less what to expect, but in the end it did surprise me; at least a little bit. Why? Because it worked faster than I expected. I've started losing weight almost from day one. I would eat, I would exercise, I would try to do everything right, and I would be rewarded. Burning fat was my first reward; not being overweight was going to be the second, and hopefully when that happened everything in my life would take a turn for the best. Did it? Do you really need to ask that? If it didn't this would be a different review.

"Being overweight means that you might experience reduced fitness, not have the strength to complete some daily activities, and get fatigued more easily, and none of these are fun things, especially when you're trying to keep up with the people around you." I couldn't phrase it better myself. This quote almost fully describes my old life, the one I've spent in misery and self-loathing. I'm not that person anymore. This book, this diet has changed my body and my mind. Now I think twice before putting anything in my mouth and do my best to lead a healthy life. Being fit is a blessing, and as such I don't take it lightly.

Nobody can tell if this diet can work for everybody but I'd highly recommend this book to people that are a bit like the old me, overweight and displeased with their selves, because it will not only help them get rid of the extra weight but also change their mentality. This is a very useful guide and as such it is really worth buying.
