Présentation de l'éditeur

When starving artist Kiera wakes up on board a spaceship, she panics. Her best friend has dragged her across the universe to help her find a man and a life, only the man she ends up unwittingly hooking up with is a battle-hardened warrior prince living in exile.

Calculating, cautious A'Ran wants nothing more than to reclaim his planet. He needs Kiera as his lifemate to heal his planet and his war weary people. He's not prepared to be a lifemate himself, and discovers almost too late what he risks losing if he can't learn to be more than a warrior.

For me, this story broke one of the cardinal rules in storytelling, especially for a science-fiction story. It killed the suspension of disbelief. No matter how fantastical the story, the reader should believe that the characters are making reasonable actions within the context of the story. But there was just too much about this story that I couldn't believe.

Kiera and Evelyn have supposedly been friends since childhood and live together. Evelyn's boyfriend proposes to her and they decide to get married two days later. Despite this ridiculous timeline, Kiera does the impossible and plans a full wedding for Evelyn. Then based on a drunken conversation with Kiera, prior to getting engaged, about possibly visiting alien planets (hypothetically), Evelyn unilaterally decides that Kiera's life sucks and decides to kidnap her and take her along as she goes to live with her alien mate, Romas.

Kiera seems barely upset by this and agrees to stay on Romas' planet for a week to celebrate Evelyn's marriage (because it turns out she married a prince). However, Evelyn keeps alluding to the fact that Romas apparently owns Kiera now and may or may not let her go home to Earth. And may or may not cast her out, leaving her to be snatched up by any man who wants her.

Because of this, Kiera gets in contact with a prisoner being held by Romas' family, who just so happens to be her predestined mate, and asks him to help her flee the planet and get back to Earth. Instead, he tricks her into marrying him by getting her to exchange arm bands with him (b/c her oh so helpful friend decided not to tell her what giving her armband to a man would mean). He then takes her back to his lair to live and be trained as a proper lady by his sisters. Taking Kiera with him causes an interplanetary incident and Kiera and Evelyn end up on different sides of an age old feud between planets.

Later, after more ridiculous events, Kiera becomes the chief "battle planner" for her side after playing around with what she thought was a game, but turned out to be a real battle simulation machine for developing tactics. She manages this miraculous feat with her only background being an obsession with playing World of Warcraft back on Earth. She embraces her new role eagerly and never once displays any thought or emotion over the fact that she's not playing a game but sending real people into battles where they may die.

My mind boggles at this ridiculousness. Never once does Kiera act like someone who's just been kidnapped and forced into living in an alien society (that she previously never knew existed) and her so-called "friend" Evelyn never displayed even the slightest remorse for manipulating her life (though the two are so close supposedly that they call each other sisters). Also, the author never even explains how Evelyn and Romas even met in the first place.

There were elements about this book which could have made it so much better, had they been properly developed. Supposedly the bond between Kiera and her mate, A'Ran, is due to some mystical connection they both have to his planet. And together they can bring healing to a planet plagued by drought and barrenness (even among the women - who haven't given birth in 15 years since A'Ran's father and mother, the previous rulers, died).

However, ultimately, the author rushed the story, jumping from one ridiculous event to another. Not one character in the entire book had a realistic reaction to anything that was going on. So it was impossible for me to immerse myself in the story when I was rolling my eyes every other paragraph. If there is a sequel to this story I'm not interested in reading it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 another winner from Lizzie Ford 8 septembre 2011

I have to say that Lizzie Ford is one of the better new authors I have come across lately! I am constantly amazed that she is able to put out such consistently interesting and well written books at this price point. Her world-building is fantastic- well described but not detracting from the underlying story. Her characters are interesting and not cliche. The heroines aren't abrasive or TSTL; heroes are alpha, but not neanderthals. I am really close to making her an autobuy after reading three of her books.

I read Kiera's Moon in one evening and just loved it. I'm not good at summarizing books, all I can tell you is that this book is well worth reading for lovers of sci-fi and romance fantasy.

Highly recommend.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Not for me 17 juin 2014

This story was unbelievable from the beginning. I really can’t imagine my best friend transporting me to another planet without my consent while sleeping because she was marrying an alien after knowing him for 3 months. Not only that, she brought her into a society where women are treated like a property and were to marry without consent to the highest bidder. Or by unknowingly giving an arm band to a stranger. Why Kiera is not at least angry with Evelyn is beyond me.

This storyline is very cliché with a dominating unapproachable man and a strong-willed woman who changes his mind with her defying attitude. I get the romance part where they are getting to know each other and realizing how special the other one is but I could not get past the fact how she came to be his nishani. How could anyone be ok with that?

I think this book would be ok if the first part was written more sensibly. One cannot believe Kiera is a strong female lead when she doesn’t even address the wrongness of her being kidnapped first by her best friend and then by her “husband”. Not to mention she had no say whatsoever in anything that happened to her. She just went along for the ride and had a couple of temper tantrums along the way.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Okay read. April in OR 12 septembre 2011

This was an okay read for the price of .99 for my Kindle. I liked the story but my only regret was the way Kiera was treated by her best friend, her best friends husband, and by A'ran thru a portion of the story. (Kiera was told what to do and only until the end did they asked her what she wanted)
The only other thing that I did not like was no "SEX" scenes. They implied that there was some sex but it was like they start kissing and they wake up the next morning.
I would have given this book 4 stars had there have been sex involved, yes, I like to read romaces with sex scenes, who doesn't.
You should try out this book for the price, it is one of the longest stories I've read in a while for .99 cents.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A fantastic read - I've already re-read it again! 15 février 2012
Par Charlotte Black - Publié sur Amazon.com
I like a sci-fi romance as much as anyone but few people can really pull it off without the story sounding like an excerpt from an old Star Trek episode.
I've never read Lizzy Ford's books before and didn't even read many reviews for this book before downloading. I was captivated by the cover and the pretty eyes of the girl so I thought, well, she looks interesting, why not?
So the story starts in modern day. I must admit I nearly put the book down after the fourth page. I found the dialogue a little jerky between Keira and Evelyn and found it hard to find an anchor. But soon we begin to learn that Evelyn's soon to be husband is actually from another planet and because Keira has no prospects (in Evelyns eyes) and Evelyn needs a friend on her travels she asks Keira to join her on an adventure to another world.
Of course Keira hates it. She see's six legged spider-cats and freaks out. She hates the male attitude to the women (women should be seen and not heard kind of thing). Except during an event she trips and falls into the hands of A'ran. Now A'ran doesn't sound, if I imagined, like the stereotypical hero. He has a crooked nose for one thing, but when Keira falls she has a vision which captivates her.
From here on in I couldn't put the story down. I HAD to read it to the final ending.
Lizzy Ford's writing is exceptional. She captures the moods, the moments, the dramas, and the exquisite imagery of the planets incredibly well. Yes, you really do feel like you are there.
You can pretty much guess from the start who the bad guys are, even Evelyns betrayal. Keira and Evelyn's relationship gets strained as they spend little time together and even right at the end when Evelyn does the right thing you get the impression that she isn't doing it for Keira's sake, more for the good of her husbands people.
A'ran and Keira are both emotional and strong in different ways so they really are the yin and yang and eventually they find the balance.
To go back to the beginning of this review, I've read a lot of sci-fi romance but I must admit this is one of the best I've read.
I've given it 4 out of 5 purely because a) I wished Keira and Evelyns relationship had had more input. For supposedly being such good friends I felt strains right at the start and would have liked to read more backstory on why. b) I felt it ended too soon. Yes, they were brought back together and the war was finally over but I would have liked to read how Keira healed Anshan AND Keira and A'Rans relationship finally flower. A'Rans final statement wasn't enough - but hey, that's just me!
