Why tell your elevator speech when asked what you do? Instead, use iPad to show your services and products--vividly and memorably.
Ed Whitacre, former CEO of both AT&T and General Motors, reflected the book's core message: "If someone came in to see me and started in with those slides, I'd say 'wait, stop,' and make them shut it down and talk to me. I don't need to know all those charts. I just need to know the end conclusion or larger point--tell me that and then let's talk about it."
A highly valuable contribution: specific recommendations for "developing and using Killer Presentations as strategic assets and tools in your organization." Just this game plan alone would justify purchasing the book.
Killer presentations fits the category of books, yet reminds me of an encyclopedia, with its research, documentation, and abundance of information. Fortunately, the authors use everyday language that is not exactly common in books about technology.
Please note: Even though McGraw-Hill invited me to review this book, that invitation had no impact on how I judged the content. In fact, I would refuse to post a review of any book if the author or publisher expected automatically favorable rating.
This book in many ways helped me realize how much more there is to learn about designing and giving those truly spectacular presentations. Besides all these wonderful and specific ways of using the best presentation apps, accessories and the iPad itself, there is so much new information and yes, killer ideas' to reinvent the way you give any presentation! I really liked the chapter that tells you exactly what the criteria and characteristics of a "killer presentation" is. Then there is the book's P-XL (squared) model that tells the reader how to powerfully combine creativity, technology, strategy and psychology in ways that will mesmerize your audience and blast your competitors to smithereens. This stuff is uber cool and truly inspiring for anyone who wants to get their presentation skills to the next level and far beyond.
Then ... behold! I discovered this great new book on "Killer Presentations With You iPad". I am reading it with anticipation and will soon apply its lessons to my upcoming presentations. I expect to use many of the "mild-to-wild" ideas and tactics in the book including compelling stories, captivating examples and other really novel approaches to energize my talks. I will buy some of the really amazing products/addons for the iPad that I found in the book and hadn't seen collected/organized in this complete fashion anywhere else.
I look forward to delving into more detail from the book's sections on using props including 3d-printed objects & models. Given that, I expect my colleagues to be blown away by my new role as "Killer Presenter"--or at least an aspiring one. I strongly recommend this book!
This book is unique in that it covers fresh and new information not only on which are the the best apps and ways to operate your iPad, but very cool and creative ideas and strategies on giving superlative presentations with an iPad (and even without it!). It also touches on the latest technologies like augmented reality, gestures to operate your devices and gives a glimpse into the exciting future of how presentations will change in the next 10 years. Unlike a lot of other business books which can be a tad on the boring and dry side, this one is well written and easy to get through. It's full of great photos and screen shots which make understanding the concepts and information so much easier. Whether you own an iPad or are using your laptop to give presentations, this book will give you new inspiration to drive motivation and action in your target audience.
