Revue de presse

"It is really a cautionary tale about choice and the danger of nursing anger. This makes it a humane story that will help the cause of tolerance . . . It is written with passion, does not condescend and will appeal to teenagers who want to understand grown-up emotions" (The Sunday Times)

"Relentless in its pace . . . Devastatingly powerful" (Guardian)

"The story never flags, and characters develop . . . I repeatedly looked up from the pages, thinking "What would I do?" and this is the redeeming strength of Knife Edge - its moral heft" (Daily Telegraph)

"Malorie Blackman is writing a disturbing trilogy that should be read because it is important. And a gripping yarn as well" (School Librarian)

"Noughts & Crosses was brilliant and this sequel is as good, if not better . . . The reader is forced to confront issues of racism in our society in a unique way . . . but this is incidental as the tale is so compelling" (Carousel)

Présentation de l'éditeur

WHEN TRUTH AND JUSTICE ARE NO LONGER BLACK AND WHITE ISSUES . . .

Sephy is a Cross, one of the privileged in a society where the ruling Crosses treat the pale-skinned noughts as inferiors. But her baby daughter has a nought father . . . Jude is a Nought. Eaten up with bitterness, he blames Sephy for the terrible losses his family has suffered . . .

Now Jude's life rests on a knife edge. Will Sephy be forced, once again, to take sides?

A razor-sharp and intensely moving novel, the second in the Noughts & Crosses sequence.

It's a disturbing world where blacks, the Crosses, are the over-privileged, and whites, the Noughts, are treated as unequal.

Sephy is a Nought who is also the mother of Callie Rose. Her husband, Callum, was a Cross but was murdered for taking part in the Liberation Militia. Then there is Jude, Callum's brother, the one person who is blaming Sephy for the death of his brother. However, Callum's mother isn't holding a grudge against Sephy.

The one thing on Jude's mind is to get revenge for his brother. And his first step is to get rid of Sephy.

Along the way both Jude and Sephy fall in love with other people: one to get access to money, while the other is just in contempt. But also along the way, both of their lives become even more complex, and even more damaged.

One will be helped, one will be betrayed, and only one will be overwhelmed by their current distress and do the unthinkable.

Dark, emotional, and extremely alarming, KNIFE EDGE gets us an inside look at a world separated by color and where hatred and violence flourishes. A great follow-up to NOUGHTS & CROSSES (re-released in paperback as BLACK & WHITE), Malorie Blackman continues to entice us with even more drama.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 an amazingly touching book, which appeals to all of the emotions 3 juin 2006

Noughts and crosses was deservidly my favourite book, and i was a little worried that this one would not live up to it. My concerns were needless as it is every bit as good as the first.

The Noughts and Crosses trilogy is a daring and wildly imaginative concept which has been brilliantly realised by a fantastically talented writer.

I thought that this book was excellently written and an exceptionally enjoyable read. Checkmate really captures the imagination from the first page. It is a rollercoaster of a book, taking the reader through a whirlwind of different emotions. The turmoil that Callie Rose endures as she grows up is particularly well portrayed.

This book is a fabulous end to an amazing trilogy. Malorie Blackman is one of the finest writers i have had the fortune to come across! I know that this is supposed to be the end of the trilogy but I really feel that there is more mileage in this series. Write some more Malorie!I only wish that this was not the last of the books, i am devastated at the thought of there not being anymore!

I bought this for my 11-year-old, who loved the first one. She enjoyed it so much, that she read it in 48 hours.

Thoughtful look at discrimination from a different perspective. Buying the "used" book provided great value. Read this book if you get the chance.

Not my normal type of read but she definitely delivers gripping stuff. Cannot wait to finish the trilogy. I hope it finishes on a high note.
