HASH(0x9e3c3c24) étoiles sur 5 Died just out of warranty and Korg support is non-existent 30 septembre 2012
Par Donovan X - Publié sur Amazon.com
*****Update***** Barely a week out of warranty this keyboard started having USB connection errors. Soon after it completely stopped receiving power and became a brick. Multiple attempts to contact Korg about repairs have gone without reply or resulted in lengthy phone holds with unexplained "disconnects". I finally gave up and replaced this dead Korg with a Roland A-800Pro midi controller Roland A-800PRO Midi Controller. This microkey61 controller could not withstand gentle use sitting on my composition desk where it remained since un-boxing. I would not recommend or personally consider other Korg gear at this time given the poor durability and terrible customer service. One extra star is left on the review score simply for the still usable Legacy synthesizer software bundle.

---->Original Review
For anyone wanting a live performance keyboard with fully weighted, full size keys, look elsewhere. I only wanted a reduced size keyboard with smooth play plus 4 to 5 octave range that would not take up the entire composition work area. Setup for the microKEY61 was super simple on my Windows 7 64-bit PC. I unplugged the USB cable from the previous space hog and plugged in this one. Windows looked at it a moment and done. Opened FL Studio 10, scanned MIDI and selected the new option. No additional driver software was required to install. The keys have the typical springy feel of semi-weighted keys and are of course much smaller than full size keys. Unlike the "nano" sized units I tried, the microKEY spacing is adequate for my larger fingers to use without pressing wrong notes. My daughter, age 9, finds it preferable to full size keys and can more easily play many chords. Velocity sensitivity is very good. The additional USB ports on the microKEY 61 and 49 are a nice addition. I daisychained the Korg nanoKONTROL2 Slim-Line USB Control Surface, Black with no hassle. Note the nanoKontrol2 comes with the required USB Type-A male to micro-A cable. The microKEY61 does not come with a USB cable. It requires a larger TypeB male connector found on any USB printer cable such as this: Mediabridge - Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable - Gold Plated (10 Feet). The only minor gripe is the limited 180 degree rotation on the pitch and modulation wheels. This was a known factor prior to purchase. The wheels still work very well with a bit of finesse and no other similar sized keyboard I could find had better operation. Overall this unit has met or exceeded all expectations. I would readily recommended it for consideration to anyone in the market for a reduced size keyboard with 5 octave range.

But wait... there's MORE! The Legacy Collection of Korg synthesizer software is the real "kicker" to this deal. It includes 5 classic Korg synths which work as standalone apps or as VST plugins for most any decent DAW software. They are the MS-20, Polysix, Mono/Poly, M1 and Wavestation synths, the VST only MDE-X effects rack plugin with 128 additional sound effects PLUS the Legacy Cell app which allows combined channels of MS-20 and Polysix sounds. The M1 and Wavestation synths are particularly excellent. I have a huge number of free and paid synth plugins but find the KORG legacy set getting heavy use. Considering the Legacy Collection retails for more than the cost of the microKEY61, it makes the package price unbeatable.

NOTE: The Legacy Collection install process is not straightforward at all so here are some tips. First, use the software PIN included with the microKEY61 to get the authorization code at the web site printed on the card. Second, register with the KORG user site (there is a link to this at top right of the download page) if you do not already have an account. Third, login and download the synths and bonus sound packs. Extract and install the first app to get a location code to identify your particular computer (this will remain the same for each item). Fourth, register each and every one of the syths on the KORG user site using the "Legacy Collection" option after installing each one. You will need the location code and autorization code to do this. Registering will then provide the actual license code. Open the standalone app for EACH synth and enter the lengthy license code. The authorization codes are NOT universal for the synths so do NOT mix them. I found it helped to create a copy & paste text document with all this information detailed under each item.

I was looking for a small, portable mini keyboard to use on the road, or just relaxing in my recliner and laying down some tracks on my laptop when I don't feel like going into my home studio and firing up all the equipment I keep there. This board fit perfectly with my needs. With 37 keys, it has a lot more range than the typical 25 key controllers, but it's not much wider than the full-size 25 key models. I was amazed at the feel of the keys. Obviously, they're not like my Axiom keyboard, but they're pretty darned good and nicely responsive, with the included Editor. And most of all, this little keyboard will fit on your lap or right in front of your laptop without taking up much space.

This is a well-built keyboard. Nothing feels cheap about it, and everything worked exactly as it should. I like the fact that is has pitch and mod wheels, unlike some other mini boards which have buttons instead of wheels. The other great thing about this keyboard is that you can get Korg's Legacy Collection for half price as a MicroKey owner. I found this to be a fabulous deal, since it saves you more than you'll pay for the keyboard. With Legacy, you'll get access to a whole batch of Korg's truly classic synths and sounds. I've found literally hundreds of good presets that I can use in my music. It's absolutely the best deal I know of for quality vsti's.

So if you're looking for a compact little keyboard, get this and then buy the Legacy Collection. You'll be glad you did.

HASH(0xa26a7588) étoiles sur 5 The Dominant Keyboard Controller In Its Niche 8 juillet 2013
Par Salem Beats - Publié sur Amazon.com
I'd like to write my positive review by addressing the few negative reviews that this product has received.

#1: "This product has no sustain pedal input."
This is true. However, if you're using any other MIDI controllers with your computer, you can hook up your sustain pedal to those controllers, and it will work with your MicroKEY. With that said, very few people actually USE a sustain pedal when playing anything other than piano and guitar patches.

#2: "This product doesn't provide enough power through its USB ports."
Did you really buy a keyboard hoping you'd get a USB hub? The ports provide enough power to hook up the other KORG "Micro" devices. Anything else that they happen to power should be viewed as a bonus. You should view the USB ports as a "freebie bonus" rather than a "major selling point" for the device. If you're alright with that, then there isn't a problem.

#3: "The keys are small."
I don't even really know how to address this one right now. This is a feature, not a bug. You're looking at a keyboard titled the microKEY. Could they have spelled it out any better for you? With that said, these mini-keys blow any other mini-keys you've played right out of the water, and they're great for playing fast synth lines that quickly move between one octave and the next -- namely, arpeggios and leads.

I hoped for years after the original 37-key MicroKEY came out that a 61-key version would arrive, but never thought it'd happen. Even though I own a Novation SL 61 mkII, I went out and bought the MicroKEY 61 as soon as I could because it's just so awesome at what it does.

HASH(0xa26a7558) étoiles sur 5 Excellent Feel, Solid Build Quality, Nice and simple. 5 février 2013
Par IbanezPrestige5150 - Publié sur Amazon.com
I'm not sure what kind of weights/spring technology KORG is using for the keys on this but it's the best feeling keys I've used. They have a really nice feel for being such a small product. Far superior to Alesis or M-Audio. They are also silent when pressed unlike some of the M-Audio products which tend to have this "hollow" sound when you press the keys.

The simplicity of it is fantastic too. No extra knobs or screens. The wheels feel nice and tight, and the buttons have a different color for each octave bank which is a nice touch.

I'm using it with Mountain Lion and Logic Pro. Been using for weeks with zero problems.

*** You might consider finding a right angle USB adapter as the plug extends a few inches from the side, not out the back. The usb hub is a nice touch, but it's not strong enough to power a KORG padKONTROL. No biggie.

If you're looking for a small portable USB keyboard that doesn't feel really cheap... this is for you.

I'm a musician studying music production. I lugged this around and used it almost daily last semester with my laptop and grew to love it. Hated the action at first (I'm a pianist; other instrumentalists may not mind so much) but I'm way over it. The Microkey37 suits my purposes very well.

Debated between this and the M-Audio Keystation Mini 32. So glad I went with the Korg. Those extra 5 keys have made a big difference for me. Besides, I watched video reviews for both products, and the Korg seems more durable. The Mini 32 bends (not as in pitch bend, but rather the entire keyboard flexes when stressed). They Korg seems much more solid.

The extra USB ports are super helpful. No sustain pedal jack--bummer. But copy and paste the following for instructions on how to add one: [...]

I ordered the Gator GK-2110 case. The keyboard fits just right width wise, thanks to the case's flexibility. Although it takes up the width of the case, it only takes up half the height. Perfect! My Mbox2 Mini, full size mac keyboard, and mouse fit nicely in the other half. It's all really a dream come true. Sound a little excessive? Well, for someone who's obsessive (OCD), it's really nice to have all that power and convenience stored in one case. All the components are light and so's the case. Best. Portability. EVER.

I can rely on this thing for operating Sibelius and Protools on the go. Hasn't let me down yet. I LOVE IT. Highly recommend it. Thank you, Korg! Woo-hoo! WELL worth the dinero.
