After a few hours of playing I finally discovered the trick to make this product work - reading this can save you those hours! Out of the box the device is basically a walkman type cassette transport with a USB soundcard built-in. Plugging the USB into a computer will cause it to search for the drivers automatically - I tried it on two Windows 7 laptops (Home and Enterprise edition) and an older XP laptop - drivers OK but you need to select them as the default in the control panel. So far so good. Tried recording from a cassette using the supplied free Audacity software - worked - but the recording level was minimal and thus hiss dominated the sound.Tried on all three laptops (Dell, Sony & HP) and the same on all three... After some fooling around with device drivers etc. I was on the point of sending it back - but there was one more thing to try... I was powering the device from the USB port - as it says in the manual that it can be powered this way. But knowing that the power available from a USB port is pretty low (500mA max) I thought I'd see what happened if I installed batteries (2 x AA) - magic - it worked and recorded at a proper level. So - don't believe the manual - yes the cassette turns and a minimal sound level is converted to USB - but only with batteries can you make a reasonable recording. Since this was the same with three different laptops, from three manufacturers and with three versions of Windows I don't think this was a laptop issue. Once over this hurdle could move on to the job of converting old cassettes to MP3. The supplied Audacity works but is incredibly complicated - don't recommend it unless you really want to be a recording engineer. Downloaded MP3MyMP3 for free - works fine and very simple to use. Simple,non encombrant, un seul branchement, cet appareil me convient parfaitement. Il n'est point besoin de sortit d'une grande école pour utiliser le logiciel joint et enregistrer sur ordinateur.Appareil performant pour qui ne veut pas se "casser la tête". Article très fragile tout plastique on hésite à s'en servir de peur de tout casser j'ai l'impression de m'être fait avoir.
