My kids are all big fans of the Toy Story franchise, so it is no surprise that they would like the ability to draw their favorite characters. It can be tough to look at a complex image like the CGI generated characters in Toy Story and try to figure out the simplest lines to draw that image yourself. A simple drawing book like this one can help a lot and be a ton of fun for the kids.
The entire book is printed on glossy paper, with every single page being colorful. It starts with a summary of the 3 movies, so even if your kid doesn't know all of the characters, the book will introduce them. A basic instructions page tells how to follow the drawing steps, and then the book goes through character by character explaining how to draw.
Characters covered include Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Slinky, Aliens, Lotso, Big Baby, Chunk, Mr. Pricklepants, and Buttercup. Some characters are easier than others, so the younger ones will gravitate towards Chunk, Aliens, or Hamm.
Especially nice, the book notes the distinctive features that will make a drawing look more "realistic", such as Woody's bent nose, long rectangle teeth, and Buzz's high eyebrows.
If I could improve one thing, it would be nice to include more of the "girl" characters such as Bo Peep, Mrs. Potato Head, and Barbie. Also, it would be great to see Zurg and Stinky Pete. It's a short book, so I guess they had to pick certain characters, and for the low price, it's a great gift for any kid as young as 5.
