Présentation de l'éditeur

10 Books in One!

Legends of Rock & Roll is a series of small Kindle books each of which features a different artist from the rock & roll era. This book combines 10 artists who were popular or who started recording during the birth of rock & roll, the Fifties.

If you were alive during the Fifties or even if you listened to the music on oldies radio, from about 1955 until the end of the decade, the greatest music of all time was produced. (That is, of course, just my opinion). In this first volume of the Legends of Rock & Roll - The Fifties, is combined mini-biographies of ten of the greatest artists of that decade.

You will find the stories of:

The Everly Brothers
Fats Domino
Rick Nelson
Connie Francis
Bobby Darin
Chuck Berry
Little Richard
Jerry Lee Lewis
Paul Anka
Buddy Holly

Come with me now back to a better time, a simpler time and a more innocent time. Come back to the 1950's and re-live the birth of rock & roll.

Biographie de l'auteur

James Hoag has always been a big fan of Rock & Roll. Most people graduate from high school and then proceed to "grow up" and go on to more adult types of music. James got stuck at about age 18 and has been an avid fan of popular music ever since. His favorite music is from the Fifties, the origin of Rock & Roll and which was the era in which James grew up. But he likes almost all types of popular music including country music. After working his entire life as a computer programmer, he is now retired and he decided to share his love of the music and of the performers by writing books that discuss the life and music of the various people who have meant so much to him over the years. He calls each book a "love letter" to the stars that have enriched our lives so much. These people are truly Legends.

The first thing that I will say about Legends of Rock and Roll Volume I is that it is really well written, and the second is that James Hoag is clearly more than just a historian of the period, he is a serious aficionado. The guy knows his stuff.

The book tracks the early days of rock and roll and pays due homage to the legends, as the title suggests. What sets this book apart is that every one of the artists covered gets not just a historical write-up, with references to their major hits, but there is also a wealth of anecdotal information as well. You get to read about all the tales and tiffs that cropped up along the way and there is a good amount of being brought up to date.

Who knew that Chuck Berry was still getting into trouble with the law in his 80's? For those who remember the great man I guess we all should have, but cameras in the ladies washroom at his age?

The book is full of great stories and if you fancy a nostalgic indulgence, or if you just want to learn about the period and get a pointer towards the greatest songs I recommend this book.

I previously purchased James' book on the Everly Brothers and thoroughly enjoyed it, so when I saw this one I just had to get it. I was in high school during the 50"s and I lived through the Rock and Roll upheaval.

I can remember the first Rock and Roll movie, "Rock Around the Clock". The line of teens waiting to see this movie stretched for 2 blocks. The critics panned it, and parents hated it, but we didn't care. This was "our music" and it swept the country.

It doesn't matter if you are of the 50's generation or if you just like the music of this era, you'll enjoy reading about the musical artists of this period. If I had to pick the most popular artist of the time from this list, I'd have a hard time choosing just one. We loved them one and all for bringing us this fabulous music, and it was just a great read to look behind the scenes at their lives and what went on during their careers.

Author James Hoag’s newest release “The Legends of Rock & Roll Volume 1 –The Fifties” is a must have for fans of the classic rock n roll oldies. Hoag takes his reader’s back to an era when times are simple and legendary music is being created.

Hoag covers ten artists from this decade including greats such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Buddy Holly. Included for each author is their musical biographies as well as their personal highs and lows. Fun facts and tidbits are also included about each artist that may not be known by many.

If you love rock and roll, you will love this book, especially if you grew up in the Fifties. So much nostalgia comes to mind as James Hoags protrays the lives and songs of the music artists of the Fifties. He certainly studied their lives in depth and portrays them in a truthful but compelling way. Take a wonderful journey back through the Fifties as you read this book.
