Good book. Good continuation from the first series. The characters are likeable and believable and you want to know what happens to them

Let start off with I absolutely adore this series....which is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because it's been awhile since I've found something that sparked my interest and I was starting to get tired of re-reading past favorites. It's a curse because I'm the type of person that cannot put a book down when I love it. It completely consumes me and I quite literally get nothing done until I've finished. It helps that I'm a fast reader, but I started Girl in the Box #1 on December 12th and it's now December 18th and I just finished Limitless. Frankly, I'm relieved that the next book doesn't come out for a little while so I can stop spending money and get some laundry done...or grade some papers...or wrap Christmas presents. So be prepared to use that 1-click shopping because after you've read the free books, you're going to be hooked.

I read the entire The Girl In The Box series and literally couldn't put them down. I read each in just a day or two. I anxiously awaited Out of The Box #1. I did enjoy it very much but couldn't get into it quite as much as the entire first series. I don't know if it was because there was a span of time between reading the first series and this book or if it was because what I enjoyed so much in the first series was the myriad of characters and Limitless #1 seems to concentrate more on just the main character. She seemed like she was on autopilot a bit too (just going through the motions). Understandably, after all she had been through. It was obviously what the author intended to portray but I I did miss the spitfire personality and the bickering with the voices in her head. She had regained it some towards the end of the book and I look forward to seeing how she continues to evolve in the upcoming books.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sienna and Crane are back with fierce attitude, and they are both well and truly out of the box 24 novembre 2014

Two years have passed since the events in Power ( The Girl in the Box #10) took place. The team has scattered to various different corners of the earth. I say team and that is exactly how I perceived them in the books.
Unfortunately neither Sienna nor the others seem to think of themselves as such. More is the pity, because the thing they all have in common, well nearly all of them, is their particular brand of being different. They should be standing together and supporting each other, especially now certain Meta are being tortured and murdered again.

Sienna seems a little tired of being the go to person for every non-Meta authority when it comes to Meta crimes, murders and problems. Why? Because those same authorities and governments have created a very intense layer of laws, rules and regulations against the Meta community. Now those laws are becoming even more restrictive, because there is a new nasty in town.
Interesting that the Meta have gone from being a or the controlling factor in the world, to persona non grata and a minority group. It makes for a whole different ball game, despite their strength and multitude of abilities.

The new villain in town is a person with an axe to grind, skin to flay (literally) and with a long list of potential victims he intends to dispose of. Yes, that does include Sienna. Does it ever not include her?

Meanwhile Sienna is trying to find out exactly who she is dealing with in order to halt their reign of murder and mayhem. She has been partnered with a human, and I think the two of them have a few sparks going off between them. Not sure what Webster was thinking when he decided to put the main target of a psycho torture gang up in his mother’s house. Haven’t thought that through completely mate, have ya?
I think Crane created that particular scenario so Sienna would be confronted with her internal need for some kind of maternal comfort, which in turn makes her think about the loss of her mother and how much Sienna misunderstood her intentions.
So, after the intense ending and closure to the The Girl in the Box series Crane has made a fierce start with this new series featuring Sienna, but this time she is well and truly Out of the Box.

Just as a comparison, my average review of the ten books in the Girl in the Box series was 4.7. This one I would've given a 4.5 if I could rate to the nearest tenth, but I can't so I rounded up to 5 stars.

I had trouble with every other scene in the first half of the book being a grisly torture scene with blood, flesh and body parts slowly and painfully strewn hither and thither over a wide area. It was too much for me even though the whole previous series is full of bones breaking, massive bleeding, and entrails exiting where they shouldn't and most of that didn't bother me.

The rest of the book is Crane at his best in this series with fast, unrelenting action, interesting plot twists, suspense and surprises, and even some philosophical delving into the meaning of good, evil, revenge, duty, etc. all overlaid upon the actions and thoughts of the sarcastic, sardonic and witty main character (Sienna Nealon).

You'll obviously have read the other ten books if you're considering this one and if you can stomach the seemingly never ending natterings of gnarliness in the torture scenes in this book you'll like this one too.

Sienna Nealon, my girl, is still on her job taking care of metahumans. She basically worked alone, as far as metahumans are concerned, in this adventure. Her USA team has split up. She was called to UK to solve a serial killer mystery, crime of passion involving Janus and others from the area. This book moved differently, for me, than the In the Box series. It was a little slow and not filled with the histrionics of the past. I guess I was having a hard time with the restrictions placed on Sienna by our government as well as policies of the UK. She had let herself get too soft from lack of training in the two years since the war between Century vs all metahumans. Thankful that she shook off the shackles, ignored the confines of the government and became Sienna again so she was able to solve the mystery/crime she was asked to assist with her UK detective, Webster.

It's good to be reading about Sienna Nealon and looking forward to the other books in the Out of the Box series. I recommend this book. I guess it's not really necessary to have read the first series of books, but all the fun might be taken out starting afresh.
