Présentation de l'éditeur

Lita put paid to the idea that the role of female wrestlers was to stand in the corner looking pretty. Her style was explosive, leaving the ropes to execute astonishing aerial manouevres that few but the best could master. Breathtaking trademark moves like the Hurricanrana, the swinging DDT and the moonsault from the top rope won her the World Wrestling Entertainment women's championship. But one fierce piledrive into the canvas while she was performing as a stunt artist on the set of the TV show Dark Angel changed her life forever.
LITA: A LESS TRAVELLED R.O.A.D. is the story of a free spirit who literally broke her neck -- and then battled back to the top. Her life has been characterised by determination and independence: before she became a star she had travelled the world in search of adventure, played bass guitar in a rock band, and studied judo and kickboxing. A heroine to millions of WWE fans worldwide, Lita's story is one of inspiration, thrills, and success against impossible odds.

A Well Traveled R.E.A.D. 16 octobre 2003

While not a huge fan of the WWE published books for the reasons explained in my review of Hulk Hogan's book (SHAMELESS PLUG), Amy "Lita" Dumas' book comes off as much more honest than many of the contemporary wrestling books. She admits that wrestling was not a life-long dream, and that even today, she considers herself fortunate to be where she is.

It was very amusing to hear of her exploits in Mexico while working her way up the ladder in the world of the Luchadores, and how she learned wrestling in a very un-traditional way (as in, she didn't go to some establshed American wrestler's school), which makes her in-ring style unique, which is one of the reasons fans take to her:they have never seen anything like this from someone in American wrestling before, especially a female!

Her daring in-ring style puts her in a class all to herself when it comes to women's wrestling. That's not to say that the other women in wrestling are not extremely talented ladies, because they are. I'm a huge fan of women's wrestling when done right (ie, legitimate athletics, not T&A contests). Ms. Dumas is still very young, so she looks to still have a great career ahead of her, despite a very serious neck injury she suffered last year. I found it horrible the way she described her treatment on the set after injuring herself-it seems that the general opinion is that these "phony wrestlers" never get hurt. That's a shame.

Also, being a fellow animal lover (My wife and I have two cats that we A.D.O.R.E.), I enjoyed reading about how Ms. Dumas takes the time to work at animal shelters. So often in the course of charitable work, we lose sight of our furry and feathered friends who share in our happiness and sadness and don't judge you one way or the other. Like many others, I was saddened greatly in reading Ms. Dumas' heartfelt sadness at losing her best friend, Cody. However, Cody took care of Amy like the faithful friend he must have been, keeping her company and keeping her spirits up while she was injured, and when it was his time to go, he knew that it would be ok for him to go-that Amy would be ok without him.

Out of the many WWE biographies out there, this one (aside from Jerry Lawler's) comes off as the most "R.E.A.L.". A recommended "R.E.A.D."

It's unfortunate that many fans get caught up in Amy's character (Lita) and don't know or care who Amy really is. It's to those people that I would highly recommend this book so they can fully understand who Amy Dumas really is and realize she's so much more than the talented wrestler they see in the ring.

Being a wrestling fan not to mention an Amy Dumas aka Lita fan there is no other way then to describe this book but inspiring, have you ever gotten a sudden urge to go out and do something good, something that might help another individual? I sure did after reading what Amy Dumas had to say about her life and her long road to get to where she is today.
Volunteering at animal shelters, raising money for charity, all with a broken neck? Sound like your average celebrity? No of course not, Amy Dumas expresses her feelings towards her past and current happenings, from wrestling in Mexico to wrestling as the most popular female wrestler in WWE history you can deffinietly say this woman has been through more then you could possibly imagine..
..an extremely inspring tale told by an extremely inspiring woman is worth every penny wrestling fan or not I suggest picking up this book.

An Amazing Superstar 19 décembre 2008

Amy "Lita" Dumas had an incredible work-rate inside the squared-circle and the array of high spots in her repertoire makes her one of the greatest fliers ever in the industry.

But how she got to the top of the game is a whole story in itself.

Co-author Michael Krugman keeps a conversational tone in piecing together the interviews with Dumas that are the basis for her autobiography. The four corners in the ring of life are explored - family, childhood years, wrestling career and injuries - in a straight-forward narrative.

Dumas seems to hold inner-scars from the difficult relationship with her brother, which causes those sections to bog down, though the oftentimes up-and-down relationship with her parents really personalizes the early portion of the book.

Things get rolling during the chronicle of her unconventional way to the top tier of the WWE - traveling to Mexico to learn the game, working in the independent circuits and ECW in the stereotyped role as a valet or girlfriend - which began to take shape when she became friends with Matt and Jeff Hardy.

The severe injury from an accident during an April 2002 taping of the TV program Dark Angel is delved into, but the book was published before personal turmoil with Edge and Matt Hardy became a storyline for the company to sell tickets.

There are spots where the narrative loses momentum, but overall it is one of the better reads in the vast WWE collection.

I enjoyed this book and found Amy to be a very nice person. The only problem I have with this book and any book written by people employed by the WWE like Chyna, Shawn Michaels, and others is that they never really get into the gritty stuff which is what most people want to know. It seemed like things were sugar coated and lacked detail. Common things that everyone knows about like Triple H having an affair just aren't mentioned even when Lita is talking about Chyna leaving the company. Yet Amy claims what you see with her is what you get which doesn't always ring true. I think this book would have been a lot better if it hadn't be written so early into her career if she had waited until she had done more and they had really let Amy give her own opinion on things it really would have been an amazing book. Instead at times it feels like a company is just trying to capitalise on Amy popularity and her having a lot of time while recovering from a serious injury. Good but not great.
