Présentation de l'éditeur

For Delilah, the Mossad's top seductress, the parameters of the assignment were routine. The contractor: MI6. The objective: infiltrate a terror network, this one operating out of London. The stakes: a series of poison gas attacks on civilian population centers.
There's just one wrinkle. The target is a woman--as smart, beautiful, and committed as Delilah herself. And for a cynical operative thrust suddenly out of her element, the twists and turns of the spy game are nowhere near as dangerous as the secrets and desires of the human heart.
This story is approximately 36,000 words--the equivalent of about 145 paper pages. It is a novella, not a novel.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A taut, character-driven story with emotional impact... 19 février 2013
Par Alexander U. Conrad - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
The virtual pages turn quickly in this short thriller that centers on Delilah and her target, Fatima. Boundaries professional and personal are tested by both women, leading to emotions of steamy passion and ultimately, heartbreak and sadness from an overnight tryst that goes horribly wrong. It's the character-driven emotional bonds that will keep the reader engaged here, not necessarily the action sequences in the plot. In fact, the time-sensitive threat of a mass-casualty attack is not the main driver here. Perhaps this is appropriate for the eloquent political message also conveyed by London Twist, that there is an insane, illogical nature to the current cycle of terrorism and the policies used to confront it. The very human characters in this story make this cycle of violence anything but abstract.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Addition to the "Rain" Series 23 février 2013

I absolutely love Eisler's "Rain" series, but from the time Delilah was introduced, I really didn't ever warm to her. Until now. Even though Delilah and Rain were perfect together on paper, I guess I never got over Midori, his lover from the first book and later mother of his child.

But this book really explores Delilah, who she is, why she is, what she wants, and mostly what she has to deal with to get it. Now I'm a big fan of hers, and can't wait to see what's next for her. Though admittedly, I still don't think it's Rain. I don't think it's anyone we meet in this book either, fwiw.

At any rate, another great book to add to the always fascinating, if politically depressing Rain series.

This novella really entertained me. Great little story with intrigue and a quick little satisfying twist. It also probes the reality we find ourselves in now with the war on terror and how it perpetuates itself. Hard questions and maybe an answer or two, but plenty to ponder.

It's true that this novella stands on its own, if you haven't read other works by Barry Eisler, but since many of the reviews are from long-time John Rain fans, I'm addressing my comments mostly towards other Eisler fanatics considering purchasing it.

If you are a long-time Rainiac looking for a good dose of hot testosterone and underground boxing in seedy places, you may be disappointed -- or you may be intrigued and surprised! If you wish Eisler would stop inserting his political views into his writing (as if that were possible to do in any flavor of spy novel), you are likely to be disappointed, as well.

And finally, if you equate a woman exploring her sexuality and crossing nicely-labeled boundaries (gay/straight/straight-laced) with strictly porn star behavior or pubescent fantasy, you may have difficulty coming to terms with Eisler's spot-on insights into the many nuances of a woman's palette of sensuality.

However, if you read Barry Eisler because of the action, suspense, well-informed political insights, psychological depth of the characters, rich location descriptions .. and yes, steamy sex and pure fun, you will find "London Twist" to be absolutely delicious.

It's hard for me to rate Barry Eisler's writings because he is so head-and-shoulders above any other writer. If there were an "Eisler scale" to rank my personal preferences in the collection of his works, "London Twist" would be at the very top of the list. The storyline of "London Twist" is as cohesive and politically astute as any other work by Barry Eisler, but it is the psychological insights and interpersonal dynamics between compelling characters that elevate this novella to the top of the list of Eisler reads. That is, probably, until the next one!

Thank you, as always, Mr. Eisler, for being so good to your fans.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 more than good entertainment 27 février 2013

The thing that I loved more about this novella is the focus on Delilah's feelings, the complex relatioship of her loyality and resentment against the distrust from her own organisation, and the thoughts about the means and the ends. I like also the strong grip on news and the critic approach at the one-direction American picture of the war against terror. I think that a measure of the realism of this book is that no character leaves this story without harm, as thought the choices made always carry some heavy, unavoidable, permanent and not completely foreseeable aftermath.
The story-line is great, and the erotic charge greater. Good fun but also many themes on which to think about.
