Présentation de l'éditeur

I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian's whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that's okay.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This book will make you laugh and cry and squirm (in the best way) 17 juin 2014

This book will make you laugh and cry and squirm (in the best way). In this modern day Cinderella story you have a dyslexic bike messenger and the super-rich businessman. The chemistry is there from the moment they meet. He wants her but she is intimidated by his money and feels insecure because of her disability. I fell hard and fast for Ian and struggled along with Tiny as she watched her mother grow ever more ill. Jen Frederick is a “new to me” author but you can bet I will be checking out her backlist and am awaiting the next installment of the Kerr Chronicles with baited breath.

I've been a fan of Jen Frederick's book after reading Unspoken book #2 from The Woodlands series. Because of my love for Bo & AnnMarie I signed up for weekly installments of the Charlotte Chronicles. So, after receiving the news letter from Jen's website about Losing Control I hopped on board and signed up for the daily installments.

After receiving the 4th installment I was strung out and I emailed Jen begging for more Tiny & Ian. Because of her awesomeness Jen sent me an ARC copy asking that I don't share it and I haven't because I'm selfish like that. My first ARC review and I couldn't be happier that it's for Losing Control! :)

Losing Control did not disappoint. In Losing Control you meet the heroine Tiny. She's a 25 year old courier who has dyslexia but doesn't let her disability define her. She loves her mother more than anything and would do anything to take care of her. Tiny is loyal, smart and has a big heart. She is someone I can relate to and be friends with.

Then there is Ian Kerr. He's sexy, generous, loyal, smart and wants Tiny. He's been on his own since he was 15 and has been plotting revenge. He met Tiny on the street while she was on one of her deliveries and was hooked.

The chemistry between Tiny & Ian is off the charts and obvious during their banter. The super hero references Tiny makes. The way Ian cares for Tiny makes me swoon and I'm glad that Jen has given me another book boyfriend to add to my list. I can't wait for Taking Control and am happy that I don't have to wait too long.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another Fantastic Read!!! 21 juin 2014

Once again Jen Frederick has nailed another GREAT read!! I am a huge fan of Jen's books. This one does not disappoint.

We meet the selfless Victoria (Tiny) Corielli when she is dealt a blow that would shatter most people. She is the sole caregiver to her ill mother. Tiny works hard as a bike courier in New York City. With all her time and money going to work and taking care of her mom, life is hard.

Tiny meets the sexy Mr. Ian Kerr on one of her deliveries. He's strong, sexy and there is this pull she can't seems to break. But does she want to? The spark is just too much for Ian to ignore.

Weeks later their paths cross by chance. Or is it fate?

Tiny will do just about anything to make sure her mom is taken care of and beat this cancer.

Ian needs her help. Tiny finds she needs his help just as much.

I loved seeing these too come together. The support they have for eachother is one that can't be broken or given words. And the love they share is hot, hot ,hot.

This is a story of what we do for the ones we love most and the ones who deserve it most. What would you do? What wouldn't you do?

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Some good ideas over a very classic frame 22 juin 2014

Losing Control starts with a serious handicap: it tackles one of the most overused tropes in contemporary romance.

✓ She's a poor Cinderella type, but thank God, totally beautiful;
✓ He's a billionaire with a little bit of a dark side and overprotective tendencies, and he's basically a greek God.
✓ He falls for her instantly.
✓ Hot sex and some insignificant conflict ensues.

In this regard, Losing Control fills each check box with diligent efficiency:

✓ A virtuous heroine with a sob back story (mom has cancer, heroine has dyslexia so she can't have a great job, heroine takes care of her mom and becomes socially isolated, hospital bills pile up, forcing the heroine to work for a douchey relative who intents to sell her body ... The usual, except for the dyslexia, which is a great idea and a touch of originality I really enjoyed.
✓ Countless depictions of just of staggeringly rich and perfect Ian is (not a single flaw. I dare you to find one). Character flaw? He's generous and overprotective, and oh, he likes to have things his way.
✓ Instant attraction between them (actual instant attraction, I'm not using any shortcut, here)
✓ So much sexual tension that I'm actually surprise there's build up toward the first complete sexual encounter. The build does feel a bit artificial, but it is there.

So, is it good? Not so much, in my humble opinion. Losing Control does seem to make an attempt at rising above the trope it is based on, but never manages. The heroine is too goody-two-shoes, the sick too sweet, the hero too perfect. Jen Frederick gives me the impression that she didn't dare giving her main characters any flaws, for fear they might become unlikeable, but in the end, it is that lack of asperities that makes them a bit annoying.

Another aspect that bother me a little is the—once again overused—cliché of the billionaire who wants to take control of the heroine's life, buy her clothes, an apartment, pay for her mother's bill, which create some conflict as the heroine accepts the gifts but feels socially diminished by them, since she's losing her independence. It's not the worst conflict, but God, enough with all those overly kind and domineering billionaires already! :)

The bad guys are pretty standard too and I felt the story lacked conflict: kind of like the author was forcing some sort of plot to avoid admitting that well, yeah, she's poor, he's gonna take care of her in every aspect like a dream prince charming and uh ... that's it. The blurb suggested strong conflict and much darker hero, when Ian is in fact so quick to fall in love and devote himself completely that it doesn't feel very realistic.

Story wise, the last point that put me off were the sex scenes. Nothing again some hotness, but this was porn, in the truest sense of the word: I'm not complaining that the sex scenes were explicit, I'm complaining that they described with disturbing precision porn movies scenarios and positions. That might be my personal taste speaking, but for example, that scene when the heroine is eager to perform fe***tio and d**p-thr**ting on her knees, before being rewarded with what can only be called a f**ial ... That didn't feel very romantic or titillating. Same went for the constant brutal fin***ing. It was your basic porn script.

In the same vein, each sex scene included some extensive dirty talk that was very off-putting. I cringed more than once at those long tirades during which she asks him to make her see stars with his cosmic salami, and he tells her that he's going to bang her so hard that she'll [never walk again / feel it for weeks / pass out / insert excessive sexual promise here]

Execution-wise, the writing is okay, but lacks in editing: some missing words, awkward sentences and repetition here and there. The pacing is sound enough, you will not get bored by overly drawn-out scenes.

Overall, I recognize an earnest attempt here (otherwise I wouldn't have finished it and taken the time to critique), but I feel it lacked originality, and used too many clichés. I'll still check Jen Frederick, though, because the Hit Man series is fun and shows that she does have the ability to build more compelling worlds, and original characters.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loved it, Loved Ian, can't wait for more! 25 juin 2014

A few things you need to know about this book:

1. The relationship between Ian and Victoria (Tiny) is slow to start, but when it does, it steams!!

2. Their sex is STEAMING HOT! PHEW!

3. Ian, wow, enough said! No really, he can be bossy, controlling, protective and TOTALLY HOT!

4. The story is great! It is a cinderella type of story: Victoria's mom has cancer and she is willing to do anything (work hard, deliver drugs for her stepbrother and engage in a revenge scheme) all in the hopes of getting money for her mom's medical treatment. Not only does she do all this but she ends up falling for Ian, and well he falls for her too!

5. This book is part 1 of a series. It has a HEA and no cliffy, but their story will continue in the next book.

6. I can't get this book out of my head, or IAN!

7. This book has likeable characters and the story line is engaging

9. Did I mention that it was a great and engaging story?, Well it is!

10. Don't pass on this book!
