Présentation de l'éditeur

News reporting is the main joy in Norma Hill's life. She is hell-bent on being more than a weather reporter, but new tyrant boss, Henry Chapel, doesn't agree. While she is following a news lead, Henry saves her from a handsy heir. His words warn her of danger, but his actions stir deeper emotions. Despite his gruff words, can she find the love forever absent from her life?

Pompous and determined, Henry Chapel revives sagging rags and brings them to their former glory. When Lawson Publishing begs Henry to take over the Chicago Daily News, he is more than happy to comply; after all, it had been his favorite newspaper as a child. What he didn't anticipate was a fiery sass-mouthed weather reporter to contend with. He also didn't anticipate finding what he'd been looking for his whole life in the press room.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 In the style of the old RomCom movies of the 30's and 40's. 16 avril 2014

Love Easy is an enjoyable little read, with some romance, mystery and suspense and none of it too heavy or ponderous. It was not explicit in the book description but this is a "period piece" set in Chicago in the 1920's Flapper/Prohibition/Al Capone era. I should have known, the description mentions reviving failing newspapers, who does that anymore, right? (Uh, sorry, wrong time for a dying media rant.)

As I read, the story played out in my head like an old black and white movie from the 1930's and 40's such as "His Girl Friday". I could see Cary Grant as Henry Chapel, Rosalind Russell as Ingrid with maybe Kate Hepburn or Claudette Colbert as Norma. His Girl Friday (Hey, my head, my casting!) I realize I just lost a boat load of you with the ancient movie references, but that style and era is the vibe of the book. I can bring the actor comparison into almost the 21st century - replace Cary Grant with George Clooney from "One Fine Day".One Fine Day Hmm, didn't try to do it, but both actors play newspaper men in those movies.

Despite the ancient movie reference and my personal propensity for Art Deco furniture, I don't know how historically accurate the book is. I did not notice any glaring anachronisms. However, even now some of Norma's rants at Henry would have gotten her fired for insubordination and most assuredly in 1925 when women had only obtained the right to vote five years earlier. I had a few brain stutters with editing/spellcheck errors and the use of "bimbo" in reference to a man even though it is correct to the time period.

An entertaining little diversion in the style of the old RomCom movies of the 30's and 40's.

I enjoyed Ms. Valentine's story about 1925 Chicago. The dialogue is sprinkled with vintage sayings, though I was pulled out of the flow on occasion with terms that sounded too modern. I'm pretty sure "manning up" wasn't used back then, but all in all, the slips were limited and didn't detract from the story. Love Easy's heroine is spunky yet cautious, the hero tall, dark, and yummy. The speakeasy descriptions are great - you can smell the bathtub gin and cigarette smoke! Go on, get your flapper dress on and join the dancers hoofing out the Charleston - it's all the bee's knees.

This was a fun, fast read with all the quirky Roaring Twenties dialogue and situations. This is not The Great Gatsby, but a working class romance and romp through Al Capone's side of Chicago. Pick it up for a great beach or poolside read this summer, as the winter setting will keep you chill and the romance will make you sizzle.

This is the colorful era of the Speak Easy, Charleston and Black Bottom, and Prohibition. The beautiful cover on "Love Easy" drew me in on first glance. This is a time when women were trying to break into the world of work and spunky Norma Hill is no exception. Relegated to doing the weather blurb for the Chicago Daily News, she is determined to get into real reporting--like crime. Gruff, no-nonsense Henry Chapel is the new manager whose job is to increase circulation and put the paper back on its feet. When a murder occurs outside a night club, Norma decides to try to solve it on her own. You can guess the problems that will develop as she enters a man's world and defies her Big Cheese Boss. Will they always be at odds? Or will the sparks that fly between them fan themselves into flames of love? A fun, quick read.
