I was contacted by this author and asked to read and post a review of her book. With that said, and a delay due to other reviews ahead of this one, I am prepared to offer my opinion. First of all, it is a brief book, easy to read for the beginner without a bunch of complicated jargon to throw someone off this particular way of eating (I do not like the term "diet"- this is a lifestyle). She gives a brief history (nothing in-depth), and some general health information, to include weight loss. I was astounded with the section on health risks. My reason for this is centered around the fact that in the first portion of the book she describes the raw "diet" as including animal products. Really?? Funny, but all of the books I have read thus far by Raw Foodies have totally excluded animal products. I went raw last year (off-and-on), plus I am Vegan, and I feel this information is not helpful. Food poisoning? Maybe. Osteoporosis? Ridiculous. Please read The China Study, by Dr. T Colin Campbell. The research regarding nutritional deficiencies and cholesterol are contrary to what she has written as well. The author's "Myths" section has some correct info, but I will strongly disagree with #6 where she puts in a disclaimer that it has nutritional deficiencies. I do generally agree with her section "Is Eating Raw for You? Some basic, sound tips there, but she really does not give enough detail. For example, the discomfort experienced initially. Stomach issues arise if you introduce raw food totally and not on a gradual basis (I know because I made this mistake). Preparing to go raw does require some special equipment, which she glosses over, without giving enough details and examples for the beginner. Again, I must strongly object to part of the section on what to eat on a raw food "diet" when she again includes animal products. Spare me from this heresy! This is dangerous and really will not do diddly-squat to improve a person's health. Her processing section was not too bad, although brief. The end of this book features 5 pages of very basic recipes. In conclusion, I'm very glad that this book was not out last year and that I did not buy it. I can see that I would have been totally freaked out and disappointed. I have been a vegetarian for 27 years, 3 of those being Vegan. I mainly do 1/2 raw now. My labs are always good, but since last year, they have improved even more. Oh, and I have no calcium nor protein deficiencies. Save yourself some time and money, buy both books by Chef Douglas McNish.

Loving It Raw: Understanding the Raw Food Diet Jennifer Wells
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
A while back I reviewed a book of recipies based around a raw food diet. It was interesting and some sounded mouthwatering – it's not all plain fruit and vegetables but delicious nut milks, smoothies, dips and dehydrated cakes and bread style foods. It didn't really tell me how to incorporate raw foods into a daily regime though – this book does.
There's a few simple recipies to get the reader started, but the main crux of the book is about why and how to incoprate raw foods into one's lifestyle. What I found really interesting were the argumenta for and against. It was good to see the “cons” set out honestly, and not glossed over. Like all diets there are risks with raw foods and one needs to balance them against the benefits. Life is all about risk assesment and armed with honest information, and advice on how to minimize risk its easier to make a decision. Full marks to Jennifer for including this section – it would be easier to pretend its all beneficial but when an author is honest I'm far more inclined to trust his/her words.
The link between cooked foods and certain illnesses was interesting. I knew that, for instance, BBQ foods and its burned edges has been linked to carncinogenic properties, and yet every summer people get out the BBQ at the first hint of sun. If we accpet that risk why then make a fuss about the very few raw food risks. The benefit certainly outweighs it to my mind, and shouldn't put anyone wanting to go raw food off.
For anyone looking to add raw foods into their lifestyle, even if just part of their diet, this book is packed with sensible, down to earth advice on the practical side. It's not a “diet” in the accepted sense, but more a healthier way of eating. It's well worth buying and reading to help you decide why and how to do it.
Stars: Five, it's a short read, but very honest and practical.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Longtime (Healthy) Raw Foodest Give Honest Review 15 juillet 2014
Par Mackenzie Pearce - Publié sur Amazon.com

As a raw foodest for several years, I feel the following information was missing:
- Blending over juicing is preferable as with blender you get to keep the fiber which is important.
- You need to determine how many calories you will need per day. Your weight multiplied by 1000 will give you the BARE MINIMUM you need to keep your organs running, plus you need additional calories if you lead an active lifestyle.
- Fruit and veg have fewer calories than say a hamburger thus you need to stretch your stomach to consume more.
- Too many seeds or fat will cause issues with a person's blood sugar due to the sugar in fruit.
- Enzymes are protein (look it up in the dictionary) and can be found in all raw food.
- Use a calorie counter to ensure you get enough calories.
- Eat a large, LARGE dark green salad a day to ensure all calcium and iron requirements are met.

I recommend the following books:
Your Natural Diet, Alive Raw Foods
Food Combining by Herbert Shelton
80/10/10 By Doug Graham

I was sick when I first started the raw food diet and through trial and error I learned why and now have brilliant health :)

Love foods that are close to nature. I have been on a mission to cut down on as much processed foods as possible for past several months, and when the author asked me to review a copy I immediately said yes. I love organic, non GMO fruits and vegetables. I have been a lifelong vegetarian, moving to vegan to organic vegan. The benefits for planets is tremendous so is to the body. This book demystifies the raw movement and explains in very easy language. You will surely appreciate it. I know fruitarians who consume 30 bananas a day and are marathon champions. The author has researched and clearly mentioned benefits, advantages of going raw. Go for it!
