Wolves and Lynxes and Guide Dogs! 21 septembre 2012
Par Scott R. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
Damn, I love being the first person to review a book. It makes me feel so cutting edge.

This is your standard wolf-shifter meets girl, they have angst, are of course each other's true mates, and live happily ever after, usually with a little danger for the heroine thrown in for good measure. Oh, and at least 3 erotically charged scenes (OK, being honest, graphic sex).

Except, that it's not. Yes, it has all that. But it's a re-telling of the "Beauty and the Beast" story, where Beauty doesn't think she's beautiful, and Beast thinks he's beastly, but not for the obvious reason (that he's a wolf also, because that happens every day in real life). First off, Georgia and Kish have a remarkable amount of depth for a shorter book, and you really feel like you've gotten to know them by the end. Georgia was born blind, and doesn't think she's attractive. Kish has some serious physical scars going down the right side of his face and body. He thinks he's hideous, and every model-thin woman he's ever dated (because the left side of his body is essentially perfect and GQ-built) has gotten tired of the scars. You've been dating the wrong women Kish! Of course, Georgia can't see this, so obviously could care less, and Kish thinks Georgia is the most perfect woman he's ever laid eyes on.

So here's what I especially liked about the book: this time it's the guy who thinks he's ugly, and it's the woman who finds the inner beauty. It's usually the other way around, and frankly, I think it makes us guys look one-dimensional. It's cool to see the hero be insecure for a change and the heroine be the more grounded one. See, I like being friends with people who know they're beautiful - from the inside.

Also, I love Lucy, and I do not mean the TV show.

Here is what I didn't like about the book and it's not major:

1)The epilogue. I know this leads to the next book in the series, but I could not link the character with the story. Subject matter, yes. Perhaps Ms. Yule ends her other books this way, as a lead in, which would mean I'm complaining over nothing. This is the first book I've read by Ms. Yule, and it definitely won't be my last, so I'll probably get this sometime in the future.

2) This is probably meant for the publisher: the cover. Give the readers some credit. I'd like to think we buy a book based on the story-line and not the cover. The woman on the cover is a brunette and stares straight out at us. It is mentioned about a dozen times that Georgia is BLOND and CAN'T see! We know that Kish is scarred on the whole right side of his face. The model here has perfect skin. He also has an earring. Kish is NOT an earring kind of guy (think Alcide / Joe Mantagenello on True Blood). Come on people - at least make the cover look VAGUELY like the subject matter.

But these are very minor complaints. I recommend this book as a short, enjoyable and pretty sweet read. 4 ½ stars. With a review that's half the length of the book!

Hot Alpha & Strong heroine! 2 octobre 2012
Par Tala - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
Kish is an alpha male that has been hurt deeply by the women he's chosen to date in the past. He has decided never open his heart to that kind of pain again. Kish is insecure because of his scars that came from a devastating event in his past. He over hears Henry and Joey in town talking about leaving "her" alone at the cabin and hope they get back to her. When he returns home and realizes "her" friends will not make it back he goes over to make sure she is alright. Once she opens the door and Kish gets his first smell he knows he's found his mate. It doesn't matter he will make sure she is safe, forever, but will not give his heart. Yeah, right!

I loved the way Georgia handled Kish's insecurity about his scars. She didn't patronize him, she told him they meant nothing to her and proceeded to prove it by her words and actions. The scene in the shower when pays attention to every scar? Hot! Georgia is an independent and confident woman, despite her lack of eyesight. Although, maybe that's what has made her so strong. She had no problem sending her friends to the store while she stayed behind at the cabin. That is until it snowed so much her friends couldn't get back to her. Georgia wasn't scared for herself; so much as she was worried about Henry and Joey making the hour long drive back in the blizzard. As she hears the car returning she realizes that it isn't them returning but a different vehicle. I think this is the first time she's felt vulnerable in a while. She has no real choice to let Kish in to help her and realizes she feels safe with him.

What I liked about this story is the journey the two take to accept the love of each other. Kish to realize that Georgia can and does love him no matter what. Georgia learns to accept all of Kish wolf and man. The attraction between the two was intense and undeniable. When they finally come together it is HOT!

Henry and Joey were well developed supporting characters and even managed to make me mad at them for opening their mouths before engaging their brains. The rouge element was present and added some angst and drama, but not so much that it over shadowed the romance.

The one thing I wasn't thrilled with was that the epilogue basically started another book. I like that the main story had a HEA, but felt a little cheated when the epilogue abruptly changed stories. I like to be left with the characters I started the book with. Adding a teaser at the end of a book is great, but to suddenly turn the page into another story left me feeling as if the book I was reading ended too soon. I admit this is personal issue of mine, but felt it should be mentioned.

Always enjoy the Lycan series from SK Yule. This was another good one with the intro to yet another, hopefully coming soon.
Not a fan of the hero 28 octobre 2012

I rarely stop reading a book in the middle but I just couldn't get into the hero. While I like a hero to occasionally show his sensitive side, this one seemed whipped.
