Not only does he give a clear and concise insight into the world of rulers but he describes the actions of men and explains them. One constantly found that the things that Machiavelli talked about related completely to today's society. When Machiavelli was talking about being generous or mean to the people, he explained that being generous would result in a mess for the ruler because he wouldn't be able to finance his generosity out of his own pocket but in time would have to levy taxes on the people, this ultimately this would lead to the people resenting the ruler because they had to pay taxes. Machiavelli argued that it would be better to spend money on protecting the state, so if an invasion occured then the ruler could defend his people, consequently the people will love the ruler for it. Today we have seen that it is so hard for leaders to stick to their promises due to finance problems, leaving the people discontent because the people will always want more once they have a sniff.
That along with other examples is why Machaivelli's 'The Prince' is still a relevant text nearly 500 years after being written.
That is just one example of how Machiavelli relates to everything political and social. Its a must for anyone slightly interested in politcis and current affairs.
