Présentation de l'éditeur

New York Times bestselling authors Jeaniene Frost and Ilona Andrews bring you two short stories of paranormal.

Jeaniene Frost's story, One for the Money, features vampires Cat and Bones trying to protect a spoiled heiress with a price on her head and an undead hitman on her trail. Previously published in Death's Excellent Vacation. Also includes the first three chapters from Jeaniene's story in The Bite Before Christmas anthology, as well as a sneak peek at ONCE BURNED, the first novel in the new Night Prince series.

Ilona Andrews' story, A Questionable Client, is a prequel to her award-winning Kate Daniels series. In a world beset by magic waves, Kate Daniels works as a mercenary. She is tired, hungry, and there is foul-smelling blood on her boots. 5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great stories, possible introduction to the series 7 juillet 2013

Review for a questionable client

This novella shows us Kate und Saiman's first meeting and how she end up saving his life and catching his interest. It was a classic Kate Daniels' story with some mythological creature, powerful mage and Kate chopping bit of monster with her sword. I love Kate and Saiman's banter, they were really fun. It was a great story and a possible introduction to the series.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 2 great short stories! 12 septembre 2012
Par LF
Format:Format Kindle
Both stories were brilliant.

One for the Money was a reminder why I love Cat and Bones from the Night Huntress series so much!
It's only about 30 pages but it's a great short story in the usual Cat And Bones style (including a quicky when they take a break from their assignment). Cat's mom was in the story as well so we get the usual banter between her and Bones as well.

A Questionable Client was a great intro to the Kate Daniels series.
I'm starting on this series now and this short story gave me a taste of how Kate is and the world she lives in. I already love Kate and I love the writing style.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't get any better than combining short stories from my two favorite UF series and I'd love to see them in future anthologies together. Before you decide to purchase, however, be aware that these two short stories were already published previously. A Questionable Client by Ilona Andrews was previously published in Dark and Stormy Nights and is the prequel to the Kate Daniels series where we see how Kate meets the infamous Saiman. One for the Money by Jeaniene Frost was previously published in Death's Excellent Vacation and picks up after the events of Destined for an Early Grave where Cat and Bones are supposed to be on vacation but end up on bodyguard duty for a wealthy heiress. It goes without saying that each short story is up to their usual quality writing, sarcasm, wit, humor and danger.

In A Questionable Client, Kate Daniels, long before Magic Bites happens, is working for the Mercenary Guild and is offered a highly paid job to protect a client for the next 24 hours. She questions not only that other guild members have declined the job, but the two people currently assigned have also quit, but being dirt poor, she can't say no to the money. When she gets to her destination she finds herself in a very posh apartment with a very secretive Saiman chained to his bed with a distended belly. While trying to assess the danger that he's in, the apartment is assaulted time and time again and Kate has to defend Saiman, undeservedly, while figuring out why they want him in the first place. The dialogue is great, the fight scenes fantastic, and the history between Kate and Saiman completely explained.

In One for the Money, Cat & Bones are pulled off vacation by Cat's uncle Don. It turns out he needs their help protecting an old friend's spoiled heiress who's life is in danger from her cousin since he stands to inherit all of her money upon her death. As they investigate where the danger will come from next, Cat and Bones lure a trap for the assassins only to find themselves ambushed and in completely dire circumstances. The threat to Cat in this short story is one of the best in the series and Cat and Bones still manage to sneak in a sexy rendezvous which fans simply never tire of.

In addition to these stories, we also get a very sizeable sneak peek at Ilona Andrew's next Edge novel as well as the first three chapters of the next novella starring Kate and Curran. You can read part of it on their website, but these chapters include more than what I've seen online including scenes with Ghastek. Even more tantalizing are the previews for Jeaniene's next two stories, a gripping three chapters preview for a novella starring Cat and Bones, and best of all, a look into Once Burned, the first of the new Night Prince series featuring our favorite, Vlad Tepesh, and it looks fantastic. Having read the short stories before, I have to say, I was more thrilled about the previews, but as a compilation, Magic Graves is a must for impatient fans such as myself.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 I was ripped off! 11 octobre 2012

I feel like I was ripped off.. most of this book are just the 1st chapters from other books by the 2 authors.. there were only 2 very short stories in here that were stand alone stories! not worth 3 bucks.. 99 cents maybe but if I had known this was just a bunch of 1st chapters from other books ( which I have all read by the way!) I would never have bought this.. so beware, if you have read all of Frosts and Andrews other books don't buy this unless you want to pay 3 bucks for 2 very short stories.. ( one is about Menchares, bones and cat helping a man who is possessed by a demon) I love Jeaniene Frosts books about Bones and cat and really got this thinking I was going to get some shorts about them and got one... One! I was expecting a book of new shorts and got 2 . The one stories by Ilona Andrews I didn't think was really that good honestly and i was really disappointed. if you haven't read any of Frosts books though instead of getting this, just go read the 1st chapters for free which you can do on most kindle books... even if you don't have a kindle you can read them on your computer.
I normally don't even read short stories anyways so this is the last time I buy any on kindle for sure. I just think its a rotten thing to do without telling people what they are really getting.

There is no new content in this novella, as its all things that are either sneak peeks or published under other names. I almost bought it without reading carefully enough, as I love the authors, so wanted to warn others who are similar...

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Really good short stories with lots of great extras 16 septembre 2011

One for the Money by Jeaniene Frost

Cat and Bones are forced to cut their vacation short when they're asked to play body guards to an heiress that has a hit out on her. This short takes place after Destined For An Early Grave so you don't need to be completely caught up with the series in order to read it. A lot of story is packed into just a few pages. As usual, Cat and Bones are great together and a lot of humor is provided when their patience is tested by a spoiled rich girl who has a supernatural assassin after her. It has the feel of the earlier books in the series and I think it's a must for fans of the series.

A Questionable Client by Ilona Andrews

Mercenary Kate Daniels latest job has her protecting a client from Russian wizards who are out for blood. Fans of the series will already know who Saiman is and that he and Kate met when she was his body guard for a night. In this novella you learn what happened. Even though I felt the pace of this novella was a little slower than the first one, there was plenty of sword wielding action and creepy creatures to keep me going. This book takes place before Magic Bites so it can be enjoyed by fans of the series or those who haven't had a chance to pick up any of the Kate Daniels books.

I really liked both of these stories and there are plenty of extra to go along side them. From Jeaniene Frost you'll find a sneak peak at her upcoming series for Vlad called Once Burned and from her story from the upcoming anthology, The Bite Before Christmas. Ilona Andrews provides 2 chapters from Fate's Edge and from her latest Kate Daniels Novella, Magic Grieves. I think the extras alone are worth buying Magic Graves.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Be careful of duplications. 22 juin 2012
Par myotherself - Publié sur Amazon.com

I certainly don't have any quarrel with authors and publishers making money, but I'm getting rather irritated with buying the same content several times over. So......learn from my mistakes and check out the reviews before you order just to be sure you haven't already read the material included in this Kindle download. Some of these stories were new to me, some were repeats. Some of them were teasers for more content to be revealed later.

Jeaniene Frost:
(1) "One For the Money" - Cat and Bones are doing a favor for Don by basically kidnapping a college student right off the campus. It seems that if she dies before her twenty-first birthday her cousin will inherit millions of dollars and she's having lots of "accidents" lately. This poor girl starts out not believing in ghouls, vampires, or ghosts. It doesn't take long to turn her into a believer and she wouldn't mind getting to know Bones a whole lot better.

(2) "Once Burned" - This is an excerpt from a book to be released this summer (2012) which I found really interesting. Leila has psychometric abilities (a new phrase for me) meaning she can see past, present, and future merely by touching an object. She also can create electric voltage from her body because of an accident in childhood. Vlad is a vampire who is immune to fire because he uses it himself. Rival vampires want to use Leila's psychic abilities to destroy Vlad. This isn't the entire beginning of "Once Burned", but it was a very good sample of the new characters. I'm thinking this has the potential to be a really good series.

(3) "Home For the Holidays" - from the anthology The Bite Before Christmas. Cat wants to surprise Bones with an old fashioned Christmas celebration so she has gathered his closest friends in an isolated spot to celebrate. As is always the case when these two try to do anything vaguely resembling normal living everything goes haywire.

Ilona Andrews:
(1) "A Questionable Client" - from Dark and Stormy Knights. If you are at all familiar with the world of Kate Daniels you will know about Saiman. This is the story of how she met him and saved his life. The magic versus technology world of Atlanta is very well described and explained in this short story.

(2) "Fate's Edge" - an excerpt from book three in this series. It is called The Edge because this is the space which separates The Broken - the normal world we all know, from The Weird - where magic lives and technology has developed differently. Just when Audrey has been offered a chance to live an almost normal life a relative comes out of her past and threatens to get her involved in something that can change her entire future.

(3) "Magic Grieves" is a portion of a novella featuring Kate Daniels and Curran, Beast Lord of Atlanta (I just love saying that!!). No information was given on when this completed novella might be released. Kate and Curran are actually trying to go out on a date when they witness a very unusual death. Now that same circumstance is threatening a young boy and Curran demands the child's parents give the boy into his safekeeping.

I am looking forward to reading the full length novel of "Once Burned" by Jeaniene Frost and finishing the novella of "Magic Grieves" by Ilona Andrews when it is released. These are two extremely talented authors and this sample will give you a great chance to decide if you want to read more by one or both of them. As long as you pay close attention to which stories appear in which Kindle releases or anthologies you will not be reading too many duplications.
