The Malt Whisky Guide is the combined effort of author David Stirk, whose style and tastings are rapidly gaining popularity and recognition, along with Graeme & Derek Wallace, whose photography has appeared in numerous publications, including National Geographic.
It covers 140 of the most popular Scottish single malt whiskies, with the objective of encouraging more people to enjoy single malt whisky, and to encourage those who have already been won over to the cause to experiment with new expressions and record their findings. As David Stirk points out within the book, malt whisky is a fascinating yet peculiar drink. So much can be found within its complex make up, yet people may totally disagree with each other on what they find.
The book is informative in an informal way and supported by colourful and interesting photography of each distillery and the distillation process. The tasting notes have been restricted to malts which are fairly easy to find and are supported by images of the bottle and packaging. Finally at the back of the book there is a section to record personal notes.
The book includes a history of whisky, describes how it is made and its tastes and differences, explains terminology and uses colour coding for ease of identification.
