2.0 étoiles sur 5 poorly written 24 décembre 2013

Some interesting stories, but the author often leaves out important details, presumably to support her slant on the events. She does not provide a balanced view of what happened, but imposes her conclusion without considering any other possibilities and therefore selects the evidence to suit her own views. Overall poorly written. I would imagine that most of these scandals can be google searched on the internet where the reader will learn more about what actually happened than reading this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 So many tragic stories here - worth a read if you love stories of Hollywood. 12 novembre 2013
Par maureen B - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
I LOVE this book...so much so,that although I had pre-ordered the paperback,I also decided to get the Kindle version,to read whilst travelling!I love the many varied stories, from the early days of the Silver Screen,to the modern stories that most of us have followed in the media.I enjoyed dipping in at random, rather than reading the book from start to finish, and particularly liked the stories of the lesser known actors and actresses.Although I knew a few of the stories in this book,I found more information than had previously been available elsewhere. The Roscoe"Fatty"Arbuckle story had so much more detailed information, and gave a sympathetic account of his later life. One of the saddest stories in the book,in my opinion.I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read the facts, without the embellishment of rumour or hearsay.Michelle Morgan has done her research well, and I found this book to be a very interesting read.I hope there will be a second volume,as I am sure there must be many more sad tales..of early Hollywood in particular.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best in Hollywood Scandals 11 novembre 2013

If like me, you have a fascination with Hollywood, then this is the book for you.
Whether your taste is stars of the silver screen or modern day actresses/actors, this book covers it all.

It's obvious the author has thoroughly done her research, I found myself reading new info on scandals that I thought I already had good knowledge on.

I found due to the chapters, each being a different scandal, it was easy to pick up and put down, which was perfect for travelling etc, mind you I also found myself going through the index to read the chapters that mostly appealed to me first.

Having read all of this authors previous books, I can honestly say I was not disappointed and can not recommend or speak highly enough of it.

Looking forward to whatever the author is planning to pen next.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Crammed with Facts/Empathic Tone Voic of Exploitation 23 novembre 2013
Par Oscar & Gary Vitacco-Robles - Publié sur Amazon.com
Author Michelle Morgan never disappoints me! Don't let the title fool you into thinking the book is tabloid. Michelle respectfully tackles each scandal's subject in an empathic and respectful way, clearing up myths and rumors, and humanizing the celebrated person behind the publicized event. This allows us to understand the personal pain & struggles which contributed to the celebrity's poor choice and often tragic consequences. The book is really a story about historic Hollywood figures--some forgotten after their scandal peaked--within the context of a timeline.
I enjoyed each chapter being a short story about one scandal; therefore, I was able to pick up the book and enjoy it in small or long blocks of time. The chronology also contributed to the story arc; it was interesting to see what was considered scandalous in the 1920s compared with today as well as common denominators that remained consistent over time; it was also nice to read about more recent scandals that occurred in my lifetime and see how they integrate in the historic timeline.
I was pleased to read about a few events of which I had some knowledge, and Michelle's research provided added insight and revealed aspects of which I was completely unaware. Contrastingly, there were many more obscure, interesting scandals for me to discover for the first time.
The author's tone is positive even in the midst of often sad events, celebrating the resiliency of those involved, even though many of their endings were tragic. I was more saddened by finishing the book and realizing there was no more...so, perhaps a sequel is in order? I truly believe the subjects and their surviving families would approve of how their loved ones were depicted--there is no exploitation in this book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Better than I expected 7 avril 2014

I'm not even sure why I tired the Kindle sample of this book because I'm not really that interested in Hollywood, but it was more interesting than I expected. Most of the book (the first 75%) was about things that happened decades ago. That was the interesting part. The last part about things like Brad Pitt's marriage, etc. was not that interesting--at least to me. What I liked about the book was how it attempted to cut through rumors and gossip, and get to the truth. So, we learn things like how Fatty Arbuckle's career was ruined even though he was innocent of that murder charge. Sadly, there were a lot of stories about people who killed themselves when their fame faded. A lot of these stories were things I had heard about, but didn't know the real story. It would have been nice to have some pictures.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent read, shining a sympathetic and observant light on Hollywoods dark and not so dark secrets. 18 novembre 2013
Par Tenebrae - Publié sur Amazon.com
Superbly written by the maestro of indepth research, not many writers dig as deep or as thoroughly as Michelle Morgan. Full and descriptive, and if you know the publishing and Hollywood biz as I do this ticks all the boxes. Obviously some reviewers on here suffer from delusions of some description if they find fault, there is only so much room allowed in a book people, but as they say you can't please everyone, especially morons. An excellent book by any standard, great to dip into, shines with the attention to detail that the author obviously applied. Well done! Buy it!
