Revue de presse

David gives sound, practical advice for business leaders and managers planning a real implementation. His material covers the key business, operational and technical elements of an enterprise reference data and master data program. He delivers a clear description of the functional and technical solutions that are available to business managers. David provides insights that can help business and technology managers to improve strategic planning, manage organizational change and simplify the operational integration of systems and business processes."
- Justin S. Magruder, Vice President, Enterprise Information Strategy & Management, Freddie Mac

Few people can serve as both an academic and a practitioner. David Loshin is one of those people and he is superbly qualified to bring sense to the topic of master data management. He has brought all his skills and experience together in this book. Anyone that is embarking on a master data management initiative will find this book a great resource, from the initial efforts to understanding the business value of master data to the methodical approach to implementation.
- Tony Fisher, President, DataFlux

“With his new book on MDM, David Loshin has created a comprehensive overview of a complex topic that should be one of the top 5 priorities for CIOs: to transform an enterprise through superior management of its critical business data. Much like the SOA market, MDM needs a separate category of best practices to address the hard business problems that can only be solved through better data governance. This book does a wonderful job of posing these challenges and positing some solutions. A must-have guide for those looking to understand the IT and business issues around master data management”
- Anurag Wadehra, Senior VP, Marketing & Product Management, Siperian

Similar to David’s other books on data management; Master Data Management shares a deep understanding of how critical business issues are addressed through the managed integration of emerging technologies. This book provides a full-scale exposition on the benefits and the challenges of master data integration; describes approaches to justify, initiate and design a master data management (MDM) program; and guides the reader in a process to evaluate the numerous methods and solutions to determine the approach that best addresses the organization’s needs. This book delivers the content in the easily read, pragmatic style that has made David Loshin one of the most popular experts for both our business and technology visitors at BeyeNETWORK.com (Business Intelligence Network).
- Ron Powell, Editorial Director, Business Intelligence Network, www.B-eye-NETWORK.com

“Master data management is a new field of endeavor with deep roots in data quality management. As such, there is no better person than David Loshin to help data practitioners not only understand the intricacies of MDM but implement it successfully. This how-to manual birthed from long experience is a must-read for aspiring MDM managers and developers.”
- Wayne Eckerson, Director, TDWI Research

"David Loshin continues the important MDM conversation by highlighting the specific technology frameworks and tactics necessary for MDM success. This book offers a spot-on look at the components of MDM--and why enterprise master data should be treated as a core corporate asset."
- Jill Dyche, Partner, Baseline Consulting, Author of Customer Data Integration: Reaching a Single Version of the Truth

"David Loshin has a knack for getting to the bottom of the issue. By tackling the critical issues of making Master Data Management successful, he demystifies this "black art" and helps the reader understand where the value lies; by synchronizing business practices with data management, David shows how real business value is driven not with technology, but with sound, well thought out practices that deliver time after time."
- Bill Hewitt, President & CEO, Kalido

This is a very important book, and it is both necessary and timely. It helps to clear up misunderstandings of Master Data Management, and offers practical help for MDM implementers. It is required reading for everyone involved in data management. The practice of MDM is essential, and this book facilitates that practice.
- Bonnie K. O'Neil, Senior Data Architect, Caridian BCT

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A must read for anyone involved in implementing or planning MDM 24 août 2009
Par Davida Berger - Publié sur Amazon.com
Between this book and David's articles at the business intelligence network, there is a great convergence of information about the criticality of instituting data governance as a key success factor for master data management.

As one of the organizers of the annual Data Governance conference, I can say that not only are David's tutorials among the most popular at the conference, his methods for presenting complex technical material in a thoughtful manner are widely recognized across the data management industry. If you are in any way involved in the investigation, planning, or implementation of a master data management program, you must read this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Required Reading for Any MDM Project Manager 12 novembre 2009
Par Data Man - Publié sur Amazon.com
David's book is ambitious in that it covers most, if not all, of a very complex topic - master data management. I'm pleased to say that this book delivers on the ambition. The book starts by defining the terms of MDM and some of the business drivers behind such an initiative. The chapters to follow cover the people, process and technology you need to have a successful MDM program. The book aptly describes the intersection of MDM and data governance, which to some, can be a bit of a mystery. We are then taken into some very powerful detail on setting up the data model, providing data quality, managing data lineage, and other important technical aspects of master data management. The book ends with tips and techniques on creating plans for your MDM initiative that will be sure to get you funded for the project. I haven't covered it all here in this review, but as my title states, this should be required reading for anyone embarking on a master data management project.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Mark Allen, co-author "Master Data Management in Practice: Achieving True Customer MDM" 5 novembre 2011

Anyone planning or implementing an MDM initiative should have David Loshin's "Master Data Management" book at hand. MDM implementation strategies can vary significantly depending on the business context and the system platforms involved, but regardless of the approach taken, the guidance, examples, and explanations that are provided throughout this book will continually serve as an invaluable reference from start to finish of an MDM initiative. Even though I consider myself an experienced and knowledgeable practitioner in the MDM and data governance arena, I continually find myself pulling out this book for reference or refresh on many of the topics that David covers.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The book gets it right: MDM is more than the technology 29 octobre 2008
Par D. Teachey - Publié sur Amazon.com
David Loshin has been writing and consulting on MDM for years, and he used this experience to write the most comprehensive, ambitious and valuable book on MDM. Companies are struggling to understand what their data means across applications and systems, but the impulse to view MDM as just "the next great technology" is wrong and possibly dangerous. Loshin spends the a good portion of the book on the "softer" side of MDM - the people, processes and infrastructure needed to support a master data effort. This is the part that people often overlook, but they pay for it eventually.

This book is a must-read for any company considering, planning or implementing a master data management initiative. You'll learn things that can save you months (or years) and untold financial resources. More importantly, you'll get the expertise you need to design a workable framework for MDM that works.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Cheap in quality and poor in content: don't waste your money. 9 novembre 2009
Par S. Moro - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché|Achat vérifié
This book was a huge disappointment. It is cheap in quality and poor in content. If you are trying to learn something USEFUL about MDM, look elsewhere. If you have never worked on data management and governance, you might indeed learn some high level concepts, but if you look for something technical, something more specific than catchy phrases like "data is all about the people", then you are wasting your time and money.
I was expecting this book to be what Ralph Kimball's works are for data warehousing and multidimensional modeling; instead, at best this could be a "sales pitch" for executives with zero technical background.
Besides that, the author might be a genius of MDM (as portrayed in other reviews), but diagrams and examples provided in the book are so "cheap" that they convey the impression that the product was simply put together to make a quick buck.
That is of course just my humble opinion, and I don't expect every book to be a piece of art (see Edward Tufte's works), but for $50+ I would expect something more, especially from MK/OMG Press.
