Présentation de l'éditeur

Perfect your mental approach to your game

To be a golfer is to tinker—with everything from equipment to grip to swing. But one thing most players don’t give enough attention to is the mental game. Psychologists aren’t a new phenomenon in golf, but Dr. Michael Lardon is a different breed of performance coach. Instead of sending his players into a losing battle against emotion, indecision, and fear on the golf course, he shows them how to organize their thoughts and use them for maximum performance. His step-by-step Pre-Shot Pyramid provides any player with the ideal blueprint for shot setup. And his revolutionary Mental Scorecard will give you the tools to accurately measure what you really do on the golf course and how to make real, permanent improvements.
You will learn the same techniques that Dr. Lardon shares with Phil Mickelson and dozens of other tour players, including the tools that helped Mickelson right himself after the 2012 U.S. Open to win the British Open a month later with a historic final round. Mastering Golf’s Mental Game will change the way you think about golf, and is a must-read for any player serious about shooting better scores and getting more enjoyment out of the game.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Brilliant Book - Repeatable Process - Brilliant Results 17 octobre 2014

As a former behavior change and leadership consultant for many years, I came to learn that all SUSTAINABLE transformation comes from repeatable and repeated PROCESS. I also came to appreciate that the human changes, not the employee, and full consideration of the PERSON, not just the employee, was paramount.

Dr. Lardon has brilliantly applied these lessons to Golf - the biathlon for the masses - a sport demanding athleticism, flexibility and power in one shot, a quiet mind, stillness and finesse on the next. Dr. Lardon's work with the amazing Phil Mickelson is living testimony to the simple brilliance of this book. Battling arthritis while playing golf at the highest level on the planet is no easy feat. Mickelson's performance while working with Dr. Lardon shows how even the best can continue to improve both in absolute performance as well as the sustained consistency of that performance.

Can't recommend this book enough to all interested not only in golf but in personal leadership and performance optimization at large!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A BRILLIANT MENTAL GAME PLAN – HIGHLY RECOMMEND 9 octobre 2014

After relishing the forward written by my golf hero Phil Michelson, I started comparing my current game with the subjects in the chapters of this insightful book. I feel like I have the physical performance, attitude and motivation down, but the remaining issues of control, optimization, concentration and mental plan – not so much. I have to say after finishing this book I came away with a new game plan for improving all my above areas of weakness. The keys to optimizing your mental game and putting into practice the mental scorecard were very straight forward and comprehensive. This is a brilliant little bible of a very practical science to improve your mental game of golf – I highly recommend.

Reading an instructional book on the game of golf is a study in contrasts. I would rather watch paint dry than reading some of these books. On the other hand, some of these instructional books are quite inspirational and helpful. Dr. Michael T. Lardon's book, Mastering Golf's Mental Game is of the later sort.

The book is organized into two parts. Part one details what the author refers to as the six components of mental excellence, which include: (1) Attitude, (2) Motivation, (3) Control, (4) Optimization, (5) Concentration, and (6) Mental Plan.

The components are thoroughly research and have been field tested in several arenas. Most importantly, the six components of mental excellence have been tested on the golf course.

A chapter is devoted to each quality noted above. The author carefully describes each quality and backs the concept up with at least one case study. Additionally, each chapter includes a practical homework assignment where readers (or golfers in this case) can apply the principles that are presented.

Part two includes the "Mental Scorecard." Dr. Lardon essentially takes the philosophical components in part one and applies the lessons which can be immediately utilized on the golf course.

The primary ingredient in the mental scorecard is the "pre-shot pyramid which is designed to fine tune the golf game of everyone from amateurs to professionals. The pre-shot pyramid includes three critical components, namely - 1) Calculate, 2) Create, and 3) Execute. Golfers are encouraged walk through these carefully defined steps which will theoretically improve one's score. The author presents a workable system wherein golfers can apply each principle set forth in the book.

Mastering Golf's Mental Game is a fascinating read that will be of tremendous help to golfers who seek to lower their scores. The writing is clear and concise. The case studies help show how the principles work in the real world. Essentially, the author presents a system; a system which is designed to renovate the mind and lead to positive results on the golf course.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 for golfers and parents of tournament golfer 31 octobre 2014

As a former professional golfer who now competes in high level amateur events while also serving as a high school golf coach, I am always seeking ways to improve my golf game and those of the players on our team. For me, instant credibility was given by the forward from Phil Mickelson in which in described his collaboration with Dr. Lardon as they sought ways to define and bring out 'the zone'. All golfers have had some experience in which they are able to hit shots, make putts, and think correctly which is why we continue to play: to find that 'zone' when playing in events that really matter to us. Dr. Lardon's book gives clear and objective methods that we can use to bring out the zone more often. As a coach, I also appreciated his definition of external motivation as it hopefully shows that we cannot bribe players to work harder at the game; it really does take internal motivation on their part. What we as coaches and parents can do to help our players improve is shown by Dr. Lardon and should be a guideline for us as mentors to younger golfers: make the game fun and give the players some tangible and reasonable goals to hit to help build the motivation within them. This is a must-read for all golfers seeking to improve AND also for parents/coaches who are trying to help younger players improve

I am not a golfer - not yet. Ten years ago I had a friend take me out and show me how to swing a club and, purely because fate intervened, I connected and the ball sailed. And I knew i was going to be hooked - I practiced for about a month and realized I had to put this potential addiction - and source of great frustration - aside. And then Dr. Lardon's book came out.

I read it, connected immediately with the concepts, and picked up a club. The most important outcome has been not the joy of hitting the ball, but the absence of the frustration, the emotional ups and downs, the utter confusion that I see in my friends who have been playing for years. I've recommended the book to a dozen of these friends and received many grateful notes.

Interestingly, I've applied the same concepts to tennis, which is the sport I grew up playing competitively. So I strongly recommend this for golfers of any level and, in fact, to players of other sports.

Thank you, Dr. Lardon.
