Revue de presse

The book will appeal to all medical students, junior doctors and researchers in biomedical and pharmaceutical disciplines.   (Zentralblatt MATH)

"Overall, Medical Statistics at a Glance is very useful to students who are aiming to learn basic medical statistics concepts. Clinicians and statistics students can keep a copy of this book as a quick initial reference. This book is highly recommended as an excellent Medical Statistics guide." ( Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics)

Great book. Very clear examples and well written. Lots of practical information to allow students to use medical statistics. (Anthony Murray, Faculty of Health & Science, University of Cumbria)

Présentation de l'éditeur

Medical Statistics at a Glance is a concise and accessible introduction and revision aid for this complex subject. The self-contained chapters explain the underlying concepts of medical statistics and provide a guide to the most commonly used statistical procedures.

This new edition of Medical Statistics at a Glance:

  • Presents key facts accompanied by clear and informative tables and diagrams
  • Focuses on illustrative examples which show statistics in action, with an emphasis on the interpretation of computer data analysis rather than complex hand calculations
  • Includes extensive cross-referencing, a comprehensive glossary of terms and flow-charts to make it easier to choose appropriate tests
  • Now provides the learning objectives for each chapter
  • Includes a new chapter on Developing Prognostic Scores
  • Includes new or expanded material on study management, multi-centre studies, sequential trials, bias and different methods to remove confounding in observational studies, multiple comparisons, ROC curves and checking assumptions in a logistic regression analysis
  • The companion website at www.medstatsaag.com contains supplementary material including an extensive reference list and multiple choice questions (MCQs) with interactive answers for self-assessment.

Medical Statistics at a Glance will appeal to all medical students, junior doctors and researchers in biomedical and pharmaceutical disciplines.

Reviews of the previous editions

"The more familiar I have become with this book, the more I appreciate the clear presentation and unthreatening prose. It is now a valuable companion to my formal statistics course."
International Journal of Epidemiology

"I heartily recommend it, especially to first years, but it's equally appropriate for an intercalated BSc or Postgraduate research. If statistics give you headaches - buy it. If statistics are all you think about - buy it."
GKT Gazette

"...I unreservedly recommend this book to all medical students, especially those that dislike reading reams of text. This is one book that will not sit on your shelf collecting dust once you have graduated and will also function as a reference book."
4th Year Medical Student, Barts and the London Chronicle, Spring 2003

Très bon ouvrage, bon aperçu des différents concepts de statistiques médicales, avec des exemples illustratifs. Permet d'éclaircir, ne serait-ce qu'un peu, ce domaine pour les réfractaires

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very nice concise reference 4 avril 2007

This is one of my favorite statistical references and I always have it close at hand. Many times I am just looking for a brief and concise overview of a statistical topic that I don't know that well and I use this text as one of my starting points, or I may use it as a quick refresher. It's often a good starting point and a nice bridge to statistical texts, or software statistical manuals, that provide more detail. I would recommend this text to anyone interested in statistics in healthcare / pharma.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 brief but useful 24 février 2007

This is a decent review of medical stats and is geared towards those who want a general understanding of what tests to use in what situations. If that's what you want than this is a decent one to check out. If you are looking for mathematical proofs and complete explainations or statistical theories than this is the wrong book to get since it has none of that. Sometimes it is a little too concise and gets confusing (I knew very little about medical stats when I first got this and had to use other sources on a few subjects). There are good examples in each chapter (which are usually about 2 pages each) that help explain the concepts as well.

This is an excellent book. I have taken multiple statistics courses but not in many years, so my skills slipped. The format is such that you can rapidly, likely even if you never took a statistics course, develop a good working knowledge. It is concise, using few works yet is comprehensive. I highly recommend it.

Item as described. I am using this for my pharmacy class (year 2). A lot of my classmates told me that they refer to this book a lot throughout the rest of their curriculum as well as their rotations.
