Présentation de l'éditeur

To meditate, you don’t need to follow a particular religion, espouse New Age theories and beliefs, bow to a guru, sensei, sifu, or a robed and bearded guide. Nor do you need to burn incense or rub crystals.

This book shows you easy ways to meditate whenever and wherever you want—you’ll learn how to do it without anyone knowing—and still hang out with your military pals, cop buddies, and fellow martial arts students. You can still own a pit bull, drive a Harley, and share lies with your drinking buddies. The same is true whether you’re a firefighter, doorman, bodyguard, medic, or security officer.

The simple fact is, meditation as taught within these pages, will make you a better warrior.

“I wish I would have had this book before I deployed to Afghanistan. It’s exactly what I was looking for.” - Army veteran

"No matter who you are, Loren has things to teach you and if a veteran this grizzled presents a book of the precious mental tricks that have helped to keep him alive, well, I don't want to be unkind, but it would be kind of stupid not to read it."
Rory Miller, author of "Facing Violence"

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loren Writes Again 12 juillet 2013
Par Rory Miller - Publié sur Amazon.com
For those that don't know Loren, he has walked the walk far beyond anyone else writing in the self-defense field. His MP time was spent in Saigon during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a street cop until he retired. Champion martial artist. He is also smart, observant, intelligent, earthy and sarcastic when you set him down with a cup.

This is a small, simple book. No mysticism, weird ideas or cosmology. Just straight up advice and exercises on how to calm your mind when you need to-- before, during and after a violent encounter. Not someone who learned meditation in some classroom or cult and figured it would probably work for guys on the street-- this is one of the men who raced into the KOIN tower after a man with a shotgun who had already killed one victim.

When someone of Loren's ability and history offers a book of the mental tricks that have kept him alive, you probably want to read it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Meditation for Real Life Combat 19 juillet 2013
Par Kevin W. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Meditation for Warriors is a practical adaptation of meditation for modern combat. Christensen is a martial arts master who used his knowledge from the dojo and applied it to his service as a soldier in Vietnam and as a law enforcement officer.

You do not need any background in Buddhism or meditation to grasp the concepts presented herein--Christensen's provides sound practical advice that is easily applicable and devoid of all traces of New Age philosophy. If you want to learn how to calm your mind especially in real-life combat situations, this book is for you. Aikido practioners would do well to also look into The Philosophy of Aikido.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Simple And Practical Guide To Meditation, Especially For Cops, Soldiers and Martial Artists 27 mars 2014
Par Alain B. Burrese - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
"Meditation For Warriors: Practical Meditation For Cops, Soldiers And Martial Artists" by Loren W. Christensen is exactly what the title says it is. This isn't fluff or new-age woo-woo if that's what your idea of mediation is. (And if that is your idea of what meditation is, you really need to read this book and learn that it's nothing of the sort.) This is an extremely practical and straight forward guide to basic meditation that will help cops, soldiers and martial artists, not only with their training, but on the job, during competition, or real life self-defense situations. If you are any of the above and not regularly meditating, you really should read this book and start including it just like any of your other training exercises. Meditation won't just help you, but will help you with those other activities too.

I have a variety of meditation books and DVDs, as well as many on breathing exercises. And one of my goals this year was to increase my study of meditation as well as my practice. There are many ways to meditate and breath, and the different methods may focus on various things you want to accomplish with your training. This book is an excellent place to begin, because Christensen does a great job of presenting the material in a practical and easy manner. He starts out telling about himself and what this book is and isn't. Because he is well respected in the police, military and martial art circles (having been one of each of these for years), I think a lot of "tough guys" will listen and realize that meditation isn't just for granola-eating-long-haired-tie-dye-wearing peaceniks. (Not that there is anything wrong with that, but those that know Christensen and me, know that we don't really fall into that category, and if we are meditating, others like us just might too.)

After explaining who he is and what the book is about, Christensen provides a little about some common myths about meditating and then explains why warriors need to meditate. There is then a short chapter on the nuts and bolts, which really is quite simple. As I said earlier, Christensen has cut through the fluff and provides a simple and practical guide.

The next section of the book provides some different meditation methods for different purposes. Like I said above, there are many ways to meditate depending on your goals for the session or training. This guide explains methods for achieving calmness, preparing for a training session, preparing for a fight, meditating after a fight, post traumatic incident meditation, meditating to induce sleep, and three short one-minute meditations to help you instantly relax and become more calm.

Christensen concludes the book with a short conclusion, and I have to agree with him that it is good to see that the informed camp is accepting meditation as the powerful warrior tool that it is. Highly recommended for all cops, soldiers and martial artists and anyone else who wants a simple and practical guide to meditation.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 a no non sense foundation to understanding warriorship. 26 juillet 2013
Par chiefgorham - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché|Achat vérifié
I have had the opportunity to read various works by Mr. Loren Christensen watch his videos. While skill can be taught; there is a component to warriorship often missing. That component is a clear and calm mind in combat. Mr. Christensen describes in no nonsense approach on how to develop a clear mind through meditation. It is a practical approach with out buying into a religion or philosophy. He gives you common sense instructions on how to focus and meditate anywhere without gongs, incense or chanting priests. However, that being said, there is nothing wrong with those forms and Mr. Christensen gives solid information and practical examples to you the reader.

If you have any interest in warriorship or even just becoming a better athlete, or just want to find a way to relieve stress in natural holistic form then this is a great book written by an author who is a subject matter expert. I would also recommend you the reader examine his other collaborations as well.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Finally, a meditation book that trims the fat! 12 juillet 2013
Par Kevin S. Faulk - Publié sur Amazon.com
Sitting on my bookshelf, along with many other books related to martial arts, are at least five written about meditation. Each one is more esoteric than the last, filled with pictures captions of a person in a hakama making different gestures and forming symbols with their hands, along with detailed captions explaining how a martial artist can use meditation to strength and focus their "chi". Loren Christensen's book takes a very different and (in my opinion) much more useful approach.

Finally we have a book written for martial artists and folks in "warrior" fields who cuts away all of the new age-y stuff and simplifies the whole process so a person can learn to use meditation and relaxation techniques to aid them in their job or art (or any other activity, really). Each technique is presented in a clear, concise, practical manner and is immediately useful to the reader.

I have been looking for a book exactly like this for a long time and the only complaint I have about it is that Christensen didn't write it earlier so I could have utilized all these techniques during my Army days!
