Présentation de l'éditeur

If you read his other books, you know the Author's personal 'solo-recovery' (without surgery) was a ground-breaking success story. But along with recovery, another catastrophe happened. The Author battled Meniere's disease on two fronts. He fought Meniere's and recovered his physical health but lost the fight to save his material world; the family home, future assets and his business career. This is a book HE wishes someone had written for him!

Meniere’s disease can affect not only your general sense of well being but your income, savings, future plans, friends, business partnerships and at the heart of it all, your closest personal relationships.

The Author shares what can and did go wrong. More importantly, how you can avoid the serious negative affects that can happen when you suffer from a long-term chronic condition like Meniere’s.

This self-help book can help you keep chaos out of other parts of your personal life. When you do this, then the negative effect of suffering from a long-term condition, shifts to a positive one.

A book every Meniere sufferer, their family, friends and partners should read to fully understand how having a long-term chronic condition, like Meniere’s disease, can affect all your lives. And how you can help prevent this.

When the Author was diagnosed with Meniere’s, his ENT specialist handed him an A4 leaflet, told him to keep away from stress and to not eat salt. That was it! There were no books on the subject in bookstores or libraries. The internet was in its infancy - you couldn’t even send an email.

With an information void, he had no choice, but to take recovery into his own hands. Armed with hope, determination and a positive attitude, he recorded daily accounts of what worked and didn’t work, until he amassed four years of handwritten diaries, daily journals and notebooks.

Using his personal experience of battling Meniere symptoms and making a recovery, he decided to write a series of coherent books to cover every aspect of this multifaceted condition. On completion of his first manuscript, three years later, he presented it to his two ENT specialists to review. Both professionals said, the insights gained on how to manage Meniere’s, was invaluable from a patients’ perspective. They believed, even medical people would benefit from his experience.

Since publishing the first self-help memoir and a complete series of self-help books, he hopes the world for Meniere’s sufferers is a less frightening place.

“Every life-changing event happens for a reason. If this book finds you on the same Meniere's journey, there are two things I'd like to add here. HOPE and my heartfelt and sincere BEST WISHES for a full recovery very soon. If I can do it, then so will you."

Biographie de l'auteur

At the height of his business career, the author suddenly became acutely ill. He was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease. However, the full impact of having Meniere’s disease was to come later.

He was to lose not only his health, but his career as well. He also began to lose all hope that he would fully recover a sense of well-being.

It was the Author's personal spirit and desire to get back to normal, that changed his life for the better. He decided that you can’t put a limit on anything in life.

He worked out direct-action, simple, practical ways to make a marked improvement in health. His personal philosophy is this:you can’t wait until you feel well to start. You must begin to improve your health, even though you may not feel like it.

En savoir plus sur l'auteur

The books are about how it is possible to go from Meniere sufferer to Meniere survivor. The purpose of these books is a simple one. They are written with the objective of sharing personal management methods, with deep concern for the pain, difficulties and struggles of Meniere sufferers and their families.

Too many of us are defeated by Meniere's and struggle through the days with a sense of impending doom, as I did. Yet, why should Meniere's be allowed to destroy our happiness and well being, to become the most dominant factor in our minds? There are direct-action, simple, practical and effective ways which, when applied, can help prevent Meniere's from taking over your life.

When your days are no longer directed by Meniere's symptoms, you reach a turning point, as I did. You get your life back. You may, like me, have tinnitus and always will; or have 90% hearing loss in the affected ear, as I do. The faded bell curve on the Audiologist notes, will remain evidence of Meniere's disease as a significant part of your personal life history. No experience in life is without a reason. How one gets from suffering to surviving this disease, is important to share. It is my sincere wish, that the information I share in Meniere Man books, continues to offer practical help and hope for a full active life, with Meniere's disease.

About The Author

At the height of his business career the author became acutely ill. He was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, but the full impact of having Meniere's disease was to come later. He was to lose not only his health, but his career. He began to lose all hope that he would fully recover a sense of wellbeing. But it was his personal spirit and desire to get "back to normal" that made him not give up to a life of Meniere's symptoms of severe vertigo, dizziness and nausea.

He decided that you can't put a limit on anything in life. Rather than letting Meniere's disease take over his life, he started to focus on what to do about getting over Meniere's disease symptoms without surgery or drug dependency. Meniere Man believes that if you want to experience a marked improvement in health you can't wait until you feel well to start. You must begin to improve your health now, even though you don't feel like it. The more you do, the more you can do.

These days life is different for the Author. He has no symptoms of Meniere's disease except for hearing loss and tinnitus in one ear. He does not take any medication. All the physical activities he enjoys these days require a high degree of balance and equilibrium: snowboarding, surfing, hiking, windsurfing, weight training.Following his own advice, he continues to avoid salt, stress, takes vitamins, exercises regularly and maintains a positive, mindful attitude.

With a smile and a sense of humor, the Author pens himself as Meniere Man, because, as he says, Meniere's disease is the one thing that changed his life dramatically. The Author is a writer and artist. He is married to a Poet and Essayist. They have two adult children. He enjoys the sea, cooking, travel, the great company of family, friends and his beloved dog Bella.

For those of you who may not know, Meniere's Disease is a condition that affects balance and hearing. It's pervasive. It can grow until it permeates every aspect of one's life. I knew little about this disease until I stumbled upon this book. It's written in a very personal voice that talks straight to you, and frankly.

The strength of the book is in this personal perspective of an illness that can be hard to understand, come to terms with, and do something about. Common sense advice is backed by experience. I found it highly readable and engaging. An invitation to contact the author (going by the name Meniere Man) is included, if you wish to reach out with more questions. A nice touch. It's the supportive, warm tone that won me over.

The author of this fine book describes his journey through the hell of Meniere's disease, an inner ear disorder that affects balance and hearing. Just as with any disease, there are myriad effects and changes that occur to our lives and, when we're in the midst of them, they seem pretty terrible and we often feel quite helpless.

We've all heard wisdom that says that even the worst tragedies have gold linings or unexpected blessings. If you're like me, you've probably thought, "Yeah, right, sure. But I just hope none of these so-called great lessons happen to me!" The author went from wealth and prosperity to "small means", as just one of his changes. He vividly describes his change from very prosperous living to a 3rd world country in his 60s. His descriptions of even small events are so heartfelt that we can almost experience his dramatically different circumstances.

For instance, his pre-Meniere breakfast was whole wheat toast with marmalade, mueseli, plums cooked in orange juice and a cup of Darjeeling tea. His post-Meniere breakfast is hot chicken broth with cilantro, goose slivers with noodles, lime and a slice of chili. These kinds of changes grab the heart and dramatically, yet gently, let us live his new life with him. It's all about living in the moment and not feeling sorry for ourselves.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 For whatever reason brought you here - You NEED to read this book! 24 octobre 2012

Ménière Man and the Butterfly - The Ménière Effect is a first hand account of a disease than can range from a mild distraction in life to an overwhelming monster.

What makes this book so endearing is not only what is written, but how it is presented. The author sits down beside you, puts his arm around your shoulder and speaks casually but frankly about a relatively obscure condition that you or a family member may be enduring.

Ringing with the absolute credibility of first hand experience, the author lays out an almost zen-like course of action that is easy to understand and follow - one that can and will have very promising results in your life. The ultimate goal is wresting control from the disease back to the reader so they can once again enjoy peace and enjoyment in their lives, on their terms.

The first person account really made the book, really let the reader get into the mind of someone who has suffered through the disease. You really connect with the author and his personal plight. I do not suffer from Meniere's, but I really found myself engaged in the book and even interested in the information intended to help those who are deal with and manage their condition. It is both an easy-to-follow self-help guide, and a touching narrative - a difficult combination to make work but the author does it admirably. Anyone who suffers from Meniere's Disease, or who knows someone who does, will want to read this book!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Heartwarming Story of How to Live with Meniere's Disease 21 octobre 2012
Par Clive Lilwall - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
The author of "The Meniere Effect" details how Meniere's disease not only affected his health but also changed his finances, career, relationships with family and friends and ultimately every aspect of his life.
This book chronicles how the author became aware of these changes and how he handled them so he could cope successfully with Meniere's disease. The story is both a memoir and a self-help book. It is full of optimism for sufferers of the disease. It also offers suggestions for how life should be lived for those with other debilitating diseases, and even for those who are healthy. It is highly recommended.
