Licks Only 7 avril 2014
Par Mason Green - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
At the title implies, this songbook covers guitar licks from several of Bloomfield's well known masterpieces. However, the tablature does not cover each song in its entirety; you get snippets and basic highlights of the more memorable guitar solo parts.

If you only want to play licks, this book is for you. If you want to learn the entire song, stay clear.

The CD includes the guitar sections of every lick discussed in the book, although the CD DOES NOT contain any backing tracks. Forget about jamming on your own.

Michael Bloomfield 2 mai 2014

I think I've loved Michael Bloomfield's guitar sound from the very first time I ever heard it. "Get out my life, Woman" with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. I remember the impact he had on me then and still. I never get tired of listening to him. Consequently reading through this book was like a pleasant conversation with a favorite and familiar old friend. Dave Celentino does a great job of notating the nuances that make Bloomfields technique so challenging to play. Doug Boduch, who has the unenviable job of reproducing and recording the Bloomfield sound, does a great job on the CD; about as close as we mortals can aspire to ;-) Dave use the term 'microbends' for those quarter-tone bends that "Bloomers" uses to 'suspend' the 'payoffs'' to his lines. There is indeed more there than there seems. All in All, I've waited so long for a book on Bloomfield that I'm thrilled to bits on how this first one has come out. I'm going through mine every single day trying to get those subleties under my hands and having blast doing it. If you love Bloomfield like I do, you will love this book!!

Underrated Rock/Blues/Acoustic Guitar Virtuoso 11 mars 2014

It's about time someone wrote a signature guitar lick style on one of the early great rock blues guitarist of all time from the early 60s to the 70s.
Guitarist learning the style now and those who play already can study this man's style. I believe he was one of the 1st white guitarist if not thee first to play this way on record. Of course, Bloomfield learned from the blues players electric/acoustic. Before Clapton/Green/Page/Beck etc. he was in the forefront, in my opinion, of this style.
Thanks to Mr. Celentano he has done a great job of transcribing Bloomfield's recorded playing on some of his best recorded songs.
The book is great and the cd.
It's too bad he checked out too early as others (Hendrix, etc.). But finally Dave Celentano pays homage in printed page to Mike Bloomfield's guitar style that launched waves of up coming guitar greats and others.
It's a long time coming but never too late to show where it all began, in my humble opinion, and others who know.
Thanks Dave!

Can't Wait 15 mars 2014

I'm Just getting ready to order this, but I can't wait to say a bit about Michael. I got to meet him briefly just before he recorded the amazing East-West album with the Paul Butterfield band, They'd just finished playing a set of tunes from that album. Michael was a genuinely nice guy, very humble about his skills. A truly great artist now only wows you with his technique and musicality, but does it in such a way that you believe you can do it too. In this sense, Michael was incredibly gifted. He was more concerned with inflaming you with a passion for the music than he was in dazzling you with his greatness. Based on the product information, I am excited to see this 'inside look'. The songs selected are among the best of Michael's work. For those who haven't heard of him, check out the first Paul Butterfield album, or especially the East-West album. Keep in mind while listening, that like Hendrix, even though other artists since have done this, Michael was the best of the first ones.

Killer blues player, great job on book + CD 27 avril 2014
Par G - Publié sur Amazon.com

MB was a great player, not as much of a household name as some of his superstar contemporaries but one of the innovators in electric blues. Nice job on the CD tracks; the CD audio is a little choppy in that the licks are split into separate CD tracks, though that does make correlation to the tab and lick isolation easy. The audio is presented with backing + leads, no separate tracks for backing alone.
