5.0 étoiles sur 5 A very interesting read. A well deserved 5* 13 novembre 2012

I read this book as I'm interested in body language and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the most compelling and poignant aspect of the book is the notion that despite being one of the most famous, successful and revered individuals of all time, Michael Jackson's non-verbal repertoire (gestures, expressions, behavioural movements, emotional indicators etc) were no different to anybody else. It gave a fair and objective explanation of Michael's body language and decoded the reasons behind it using evidence by body language professionals. I was waiting in anticipation for this book and it did not disappoint. This is 1 of the most interesting books I have read all year and a must for Michael Jackson fans or non Michael Jackson fans alike, so much so that after reading I found myself going through it again incase I had missed anything. I have not done that with a book for a long, long time.

I have been able to carry some tips from this book over into my every day life and find it fascinating. Written in a good style, Craig James Baxter has brought body language into a new era. Very much looking forward to his next book!

Including a body language glossary of terms in the book was also a very nice touch.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A must-read for all Michael Jackson fans....and for the world! 5 octobre 2012

I recommend this book to everyone, whether they be a fan of Michael's or not. This is one of the few books to shed the light of truth on Michael as a person. The author is objective in in his analysis of Michael's nonverbal body language in five separate interviews, giving the reader insights into what various gestures and facial expressions really mean. The reader is then able to form their own opinions, having a better understanding of what's happening behind Michael's calm, polite demeanor.

It's very telling that the author is able to see past the interviewers' attempts to paint Michael in a negative light. He is able to help the reader understand what Michael was really thinking as he answered each question and worked to maintain his dignity. This book helps the reader see past the way Michael was portrayed as well. After reading this, his mannerisms no longer seem quirky. Instead, they show his true emotions, and how hard he worked to keep his sadness, his frustration, and at times his anger contained.

I truly believe Michael himself would be pleased with this book, and would thank the author for helping the world see the man he truly was. Rest in peace, Michael. The truth is being revealed, and people are finally starting to see you for who you really were: a gentle, peaceful, loving man who only ever wanted to help heal the world and bring joy and love to people through your music and dance. Your humanitarian work, your contribution to the entertainment world, and your message of love, peace, and tolerance will finally be able to be heard above the lies and innuendo. Finally, those will be put to rest and the real Michael Jackson will emerge. This book joins a few others that are helping to restore Michael's legacy to its rightful place. He is the King of Pop, Rock, and Soul.......he is a loving father.......he is forever! (Present-tense used on purpose to show that his legacy will live on for eternity).

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A "MUST READ" for the public as well as MJ fans 30 décembre 2012
Par Debbie Kunesh - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
I just finished reading this book and in my opinion, it's a MUST READ! Fascinating in regards to body language, explains why Michael's body language showed that Michael WAS telling the truth about his innocence and humanizes Michael Jackson, which is incredibly important not only for fans, but for the public at large.

It was really eye opening and added another element to what I already knew about Michael from my own research and from talking to people who knew him and who had spent time around him, and the author hits the nail on the head in regards to Michael's feelings and corresponding behavior.

We know from Frank Cascio's book that Michael used a surrogate for Blanket and I know from speaking to others who knew Michael, that Michael did have multiple surgeries on his nose and also had his chin done (he admitted to both of these as well, but did not go into how many were performed)...some due to maintenance, some to correct previous problems and some due to the lupus eating away at the base of his nose, which may very well have been why he felt so uncomfortable speaking about the surgery to Oprah and also to Bashir. He most likely felt it was an invasion of his privacy.

I also surmised from my conversations with those who knew Michael, that indeed, his past abuse affected the way he saw himself and he was never happy with the way he looked (which he himself expressed in interviews, including in the Botech tapes book, where he referred to seeing himself in a very negative way and that he felt he looked like a lizard) :(

This could also very well account for the uncomfortableness he felt on those subjects. He felt they were private and his privacy was being invaded, so he was in these rare instances that were pointed out in the book, being dishonest in those answers to try to throw the interviewer off the subject perhaps?

Most important to note is the author's commentary on how Michael's body language so clearly showed that he was telling the truth about his innocence, and his innocent relationship with and caring about, children. His child-like nature is also proven throughout and the reality that in some instances, due to his life being so different from most, and having been not only harshly disciplined as a child, but also having been on stage and clawed at and distanced from others and from what would be considered "normalcy" due to his extreme celebrity and fame, the reality that he looked at life differently than most and saw things from a child's eye view in many instances and in some ways, certain behaviors may have been taken, due to this, as naivety, is also clearly shown.

So much of Michael's life was flung wide open and scrutinized and so much of it made up, that it is my belief that Michael felt continually hounded, attacked and under siege and that the subject of surgery, how he felt about himself and the subject of his family, his children, was very private to him, and understandably so, and so he wanted to throw the interviewer off track and keep some of his dignity and privacy. Any of us would have felt the same.

Here is a link to what someone who knew Michael shared with me about his surgeries:

This is my sister website to Reflections on the Dance:
[...]

"I'd like to set the record straight right now. I have never had my cheeks altered or my eyes altered. I have not had my lips thinned, nor have I had dermabrasion or a skin peel. All of these charges are ridiculous. If they were true, I would say so, but they aren't. I have had my nose altered twice and I recently added a cleft to my chin, but that is it. Period. I don't care what anyone else says, it's my face and I know."

Michael Jackson in his book "Moonwalk"

They keep saying "why does he keep changing it (my face)"? It's not true! I'm telling you the honest truth."

Michael Jackson speaking to Martin Bashir in the "Living with Michael Jackson" documentary

Michael Was Telling The Truth: He did have surgery on ONLY 2 Parts of his face...His Nose & Chin

From one of Michael's close friends:

"Michael did only have 2 altering plastic surgery procedures on his face (nose and chin cleft), which he tried to relay in the trashy docu (Martin Bashir documentary).

"This is a subject he always felt was private and did not feel comfortable discussing and was unable to express himself well on. He certainly had many corrective procedures to his nose after the surgery and throughout the years, which changed his appearance.

Filing, Tattoos, botox, scalp treatment for his burns, grafting or lifts are not surgeries, they are cosmetic treatments; standard practice. Anyone who has a nose job knows that it has to be filed and filtered, that's a part of the rhinoplasty over the years.

As he told us, he did not have work done on his lips, eyes, cheek bones or anywhere else. You must also not forget his severe Lupus and Vitiligo, which needed constant treatment and was the root of many of the corrective procedures, eating away the base of his nose. It is so quick and easy to judge Michael by his appearances, that have certainly been altered in printed media."~

I also found this book extremely helpful just in general in reading others' body language and clues to look for, and I think this book helped to humanize Michael and show his humanity and how people need to see that human side. As was mentioned, so many of his fans saw and still do see him as a god in some ways, which I don't feel is healthy. It wasn't healthy for Michael either when he was still here with us.

It was not only the prying eyes of the media and the public as well as the relentless lies told about this man, that created the demons he had to live with, it was also the fact that due to all of this, the public at large, forgot he was a human being, with all of the same emotions, mannerisms, strengths and weaknesses we all have, and seeing him as either a god or a devil, is counterintuitive to being able to see Michael Jackson the human being. An extremely talented man, a difficult life at best due to his childhood and his extreme celebrity which creates a prison, but also a human being who at the end of the day, just wanted to be recognized, and accepted as such.~

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Observation Of Behavior- Illuminating FOR ALL 2 décembre 2012
Par MAbbas - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
After watching several of Mr. Baxter's video analysis of Michael Jackson back in September 2011, I was much intrigued regarding this observational study and was hoping a book would be forthcoming. I do hope it will come out in hard back edition as it would be a fine addition to the continued study of this man who has been so unfairly maligned throughout the years by a bias press pack. I am hoping that Mr. Baxter will analyze more of Michael Jackson's body language and also further expand his study to some of the tabloid princesses who misinformed the public all these years, i.e Dimond, Orth, Grace..regarding Michael Jackson. Depending on which expert you listen to, body language and paralinguistic cues could make up between 70 -90% of nonverbal communication.

Body language analysis, while not an exact science does give us another way to understand someone's mode of communication coupled with the actual words they use. For many years it has been popularly utilized in business practices especially sales, in law by attorney choosing a jury and by law enforcement during interrogations. Since body language is a form of non-verbal communication, consisting of body posture, gestures, facial expressions, and eye movements, it's essential to find a baseline and then watch for consistencies in any particular person's demeanor and that is what Mr. Baxter did with these Michael Jackson interviews. It seems that even while Baxter chose different times in Michael's life and also different circumstances, some stressful and some not, Michael Jackson's body language seemed to stay consistent. Since humans send these signals almost entirely subconsciously I feel it's a great way to understand Michael a little better.

In Behind the Mask; What Michael Jackson Told the World, Craig J Baxter demonstrates clearly that his repetitive use of the hands to the heart and the other gestural timings are the same even while addressing the molestation allegations as when he spoke to Oprah in a less emotional state. Emphasis with his head, eyes and the micro expressions and verbal communication all in synchronization clearly reflect an honest demeanor and supports recent research and indepth study of Michael Jackson's comp;ete innocence.

I was particularly taken with the part regarding Michael putting up his leg as a barrier to Oprah as she seemed arrogant with her "steepling" gestures and overtly nosey questions from the jump start of her interview. She had said that Michael had put no restraints on her so she could have asked him anything so he would have had every reason to feel apprehensive. Contrastingly, during the interview with Bashir, Michael seemed more at ease, sitting on a floor pillow, a stool, a ferris wheel, a limo, golf carts etc.. this could be because Bashir had assured him he would be representing Michael's life as it really was and that he would have final say on what was aired.

The only noticeable "dishonesty" Mr. Baxter highlighted was the issue over the maternity of Michael's youngest child, Blanket. It seems that Michael did give completely contradictory statements which seemed glaringly overlooked by Bashir. Elizabeth Taylor, one of his closest friends said of Michael, "he is highly intelligent, shrewd, intuitive and understanding..... also sympathetic, generous almost to a fault." Four out of those six adjectives used by Ms. Taylor, have to do with intellect, which leads me to believe Michael knew exactly what he was doing.

His attention to detail is unparalleled as constantly heralded by all that have worked with him: Michael doesn't deliver a faulty product. He is a perfectionist. So why such a blatant foul up? Possiblities abound and if you've researched him at all you know he loved pranking people. Could it have been simple putting one over on Bashir, as he had a sly smile when he claimed he had a "relationship" with Blanket's mom. Or, since it is unclear which statement came first or what the time duration between them, it's quite possible he realized that perhaps Bashir was being disingenuous by asking the very same question twice, so Michael gave a completely different answer. As I recall there was a major "eye roll" of boredom or exasperation from Michael during one of the queries regarding maternity. Either way Michael believing he had full editing privileges would have been able to edit out the one of the versions and show Bashir that he had missed such a flagrant contradiction. The Footage the no one was supposed to see" clearly demonstrates that in fact, Bashir was extremely underhanded in his editing and voice over of that interview and there was must contentious litigation regarding his refusal to allow Michael first view and editing prior to his UK airing.

I very much recommend this book as it confirms what much of the evidence that is now being made available from the courts through transcripts and documents have indicated. As his attorney, Tom Mesereau said so succinctly put it, after the 2005 jury verdict, "The man's innocent, he always was."

Rewatching the videos as Mr. Baxter analyzes them makes it easier to grasp what he means by micro expression and gestural timings. If I could make one small suggestion, it would be to include more analysis of the interviewers body language and micro signals that they give off and how that affects in turn Michael's reaction to them.

This well-written and fascinating book is a must read for everyone, not just Jackson fans. Craig gives us a greater insight into the enigmatic and often misjudged Jackson in a way that hasn't been done before, and offers some startling revelations about a wonderful and very human being, a human being who became lost in celebrity, controversy and media sensationalism. With his book, Craig has humanized Jackson, and has marvelously brought to light the man behind the mask!

Craig recently did an interview with my senior writer Lauren, for my online magazine The Jam Cafe. It is well worth reading.
