Marc Wolenik is the CEO of Webfortis—a Microsoft Gold Certified CRM Partner headquartered

in San Francisco.

 

As an avid believer in customer relationship management (CRM), Marc wrote a custom CRM application using only ASP 3.0 (prior to .NET) from scratch and incorporated complete back-office enterprise resource planning (ERP) functionality into it so that it could be used as the first of its type web-based CRM, point of sale (POS), and ERP. When Microsoft Dynamics CRM was released, Marc recognized the potential of both its CRM and xRM capabilities and developed a complete services offering around the product. Today, Webfortis offers “soup to nuts” CRM services for their customers.

Without question, this book has jumpstarted our application migration initiatives and we are well on our way to realizing the fullest benefits very quickly. I was doubtful at first that one book would be able to cover everything in the application, but this book managed to address everything we needed - My staff was so thankful for the books, and they have already shown me some prototypes for the new applications, all to the credit of this book. I would have preferred deeper dives in a few areas – additional examples of PBL’s or example, but we were able to figure it out with the examples shown.

The author Marc has been a well-respected Microsoft Dynamics CRM thought leader for years and with his 4th book it's clear that he means to stay at the top.

Not only does he explore the basics of Contacts, Opportunities, Leads, Accounts, and Cases, he dives into the newer functionality that Microsoft is only just now releasing. It's going to be hard for any author to stay on top of Dynamics CRM based on the near-quarterly releases, so i hope we get to see future updates of this book that contain those new things. It's hard to believe that this book contains information about the newly released MarketingPilot. Netbreeze, and Yammer tools!

It's no surprise to also see Marc write for the developers! There are numerous chapters dedicated to Plug-Ins, Visual Studio, .NET, custom reports, Web Services, binding, and solutions, and written in an easy-to-consume fashion.

If you're using Dynamics CRM, either as a consultant, developer, systems administrator, or other, this is a very handy book that i've already referenced numerous times since purchasing and i think you'd find very helpful too.

Marc, nice job and the industry looks forward to future books!

I am a Integration Architect and have worked a little with CRM in the past. Finding the information I needed has always been difficult. I am a hands-on person and like to learn about a product at my own pace. I don't want to have search for the information I need. And I like to get the information from the experts.

Marc Wolenik has provided me with the only book I need for MS Dynamics CRM 2013. Although the book is primarily for Intermediate through advanced users, someone new to CRM 2013 can easily follow along. Quite a bit of the information can be easily understood by a non-technical reader.

Being an author myself, I tend to be critical of how the information flows between topics. And how much information comes from the authors experience with the product, as compared to being copied from other sources. Although there is some published data that is needed, Marc has provided us with original information from his years of experience.

I read the book from front to back and am now looking at sections and examples that help me understand how to work with CRM 2013.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn all about Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, no matter what your level of experience is.

Excellent introduction book on Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013. I believe the description says it but it is written pre-release so some of the information in it is not accurate anymore with the release of LEO (Spring) and coming soon VEGA (Fall) things are changing as programs do. Still core concepts, best practices, and general functions have stayed the same.

I was pretty familiar with CRM 4.0 and 2011 before reading this book but it explains things very well from the ground up. If you have a pretty good understanding of the CRM Basics this book takes you through the rest including administrative functions and integrating to other system such as Sharepoint. There are some other programs that integrate really nicely with CRM that were left out which was disappointing, such as Experlogix or Quote Works, but to cover all those is very hard.

The author did a good job of explaining the differences from 2011 to 2013. I would have liked the author to have also spent some time explaining the modules in CRM Microsoft is not improving on and trying to get away from such as Reporting, Marketing (Dynamics Marketing coming online), etc. I think it may have been helpful to talk about how to do integrations into CRM with SSIS or Scribe possibly but that is a niche. Also more could have been covered about the Outlook Client which may have been covered better in a previous version. Notice I am being pretty picky, it is hard to offer improvements on this book.

This book has helped me a lot and I keep it in my office for easy reference.

This book is ok if you want to learn the workings of CRM 2013; however, if you're looking to use this as a guide to build an on-premise system, look elsewhere. The chapter that lays out the installation is waaay down in Chapter 32 and is very weak. When configuring the different pieces, you get referred back to other chapters - for instance, the E-mail router in Chapter 16. In the section titled "Creating the Incoming Profile", you get a screen shot and a sentence on what it does. The next section, titled "Deployments", talks about creating the profiles! It's very weak and you can tell this guy knows how to use the software, but can't describe how to install it.

My experience with deploying CRM 2013 on-premise overall is disappointing and very frustrating. There's too much contradictory information from Microsoft and there aren't that many non-Microsoft sites that explain not only what some of the pieces are, but how to configure them properly. It's obvious that Microsoft wants to push you to the online version, so be prepared to invest a lot of time, energy and money for alcohol if you decide to tackle this beast on your own.
