I’d heard a lot about Sandy Newbegging’s Mind Calm techniques so wanted to try them out for myself. Here are just o few of the benefits I have gained since using this technique:

It’s a simple and effective technique to learn and creates peace and stillness of mind in a very short space of time. You can do it anywhere, on the bus, at home, in the bath, and basically it’s portable and can be used wherever you are. You don’t need any fancy clothing to have to sit in a certain position you simply use it in any situation you are in.

I feel a sense of inner stillness, a silence, expansion, ease and flow where my thinking literally stops and I end up ‘just being’ every time I use it. It’s calming and brings you back to the here and now rather than finding yourself lost in a story from the past or worrying about the future.

If you have a chaotic mind (I think we all do at times) you can use this technique in the moment or take up daily practice if you wish to for just 5-10 mins a day. It does what it says on the tin...calms your mind, what could be better than that.

Instead of buying medicine to ease your emotional or physical problems, get this book in your medicine cabinet, the side effects are only positive ones.

Ten reviews were put up within a couple days of the book's release. Which can be explained away if maybe a bunch of people were eagerly expecting its release and wanted to review it as soon as possible. But of those 10, fully eight were from people who currently have either only one or two Amazon product reviews, which makes me suspicious about all the 5-star reviews that the book has.

My own thoughts on the book are not as strong one way or the other. Some of the points that stuck most with me were on how to change your perspective to interpret life's ups and downs with more objectivity and neutrality, which helps prevent overthinking.

But take my two cents with a grain of salt: this was the first book of its kind that I had read, so I don't have much to compare it against. Mostly I wanted to balance out the other reviews.

I am so glad that I was given an opportunity to read this book. The book is for anyone that deals with mind chatter when trying to mediate. The health benefits for meditation are widely know and Sandy provides a fresh, straight forward approach to help people get started and continue a daily practice of meditation.

What I loved: the simplicity, and the clarity. Even though I'm a fan of the incense-burning & chanting styles of meditation, and realize that hippie s*** is off-putting to many. MIND CALM is written in a very simple & straight-forward manner, and with a really pragmatic how-to approach for a meditation practice. Easy, do-able steps. I typically read through books like this with a highlighter in hand - and this book offers a ton of material that I'll refer to again & again. A favorite quote - "Life can become an emotional roller coaster if you fully engage in every thought that passes through your mind. Seeing your thoughts instead of being your thoughts makes all the difference." The book finishes with a 10-part MIND CALM program with daily schedules of implementation over 10 weeks. That kind of discipline makes me giddy.

What I left: a few acronyms that didn't resonate. In general, acronyms tend to bring a corporate feel for me.
