Mindful Eating: A Healthy, Balanced and Compassionate Way To Stop Overeating, How To Lose Weight and Get a Real Taste of Life by Eating Mindfully

What are you hungry for?

You may have been drawn to the idea of mindful eating as an antidote to the empty promises of the diet industry, or you may have felt that it’s time to pursue a more purposeful, more compassionate way of eating. Whatever your reasons and whatever your current relationship to food and your body is, this book can help you reconsider your eating habits and whether they are truly serving your highest good.

Through an exploration of the real reasons we overeat, our thoughts and feelings around food, and coming into closer contact with our own true appetites, this book aims to help you craft an open and accepting attitude towards food.

Mindful eating is an attitude towards food (and much more) that encourages awareness, deliberate action and an open acceptance of the present moment as it unfolds around us.

In this book, we’ll look at how the conventional dieting mindset is actually damaging and counterproductive, and how mindful eating can be a refreshing break away from all the expectations that you have about yourself and food that are not serving you. The ultimate goal is to become exquisitely tuned in to your own appetites, desires and passions, and to tune out the noise and clutter from the outside world that muffle your innate intuition about what is good for you and what isn’t.

When we understand our true hunger, when we realize the psychological, emotional, behavioral, physical and even spiritual causes behind our overeating, only then can we can start to take realistic steps to remedy it.

Here Is What You Will Learn After Reading This Book:

  • Mindful Eating vs. Mindless Eating
  • Why We Overeat
  • The Benefits of Becoming a Mindful Eater
  • Mindfulness – the Nuts and Bolts
  • Practical Ways to be Mindful and Mindfulness Exercises
  • Deep Body Awareness
  • Eating: Finding the Middle Path
  • And much more!

Biographie de l'auteur

Hi there! My name is Simeon and I'm a poet and a philosopher at heart, a health and fitness enthusiast by habit, a daredevil by choice, and a adrenaline junkie for life. I have a profound interest in the areas of personal and spiritual development, a deep longing for serenity, simplicity and numberless wealth, an unyielding belief in the goodness of all human beings, and an ever-growing ambition for all of us to be able to reach the height of our true potential and fully realize the dreams and visions that we have envisioned for ourselves. Some of my academic endeavors encompass the following: cognitive neuroscience, applied positive psychology, sports and exercise science, and evidence-based psychological coaching. I currently work as a life coach and health counselor with people who want to make realistic, autonomous, and lifelong changes in various areas of their lives. Above all, what I truly desire is to be a positive influence in other people's lives. So if I have played but the smallest part of changing your life for the better, if I have made but one positive impact on you, left you with some new insight, steered you in a new direction, or helped you take that next step on your journey, I will be more than satisfied. I'd like to share a short story I heard once, a few words by Les Brown which have had a profound impact on me when it comes to living life to the fullest. It goes like this: "The wealthiest place on earth is not the goldmines of the earth. No, the wealthiest place on earth is the graveyard. Because here you'll find an endless array of hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, books that were never written, songs that were never sung, inventions that were never shared, cures that were never discovered, and all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to realize their dream. The question is - if you die today, what ideas, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, what dreams would die with you?" So, if you were to leave here with nothing else, I would want to leave you with this: don't die with your music still in you. There truly is no one else who can sing your song. You are the one. Take care! /Simeon

This book is a MUST read for everyone who struggles with dieting, overeating and eating healthy.

I've been a binge eater for about 15 years now, followed countless diets, therapy and group meetings. I've had periods in which I felt I had control over my eating but it never lasted. My whole life evolved around food and I thought this would just be the next book with promises that wouldn't work for me anyway. I had heard of mindfulness before, but it sounded too difficult, especially for someone with zero willpower like me.

This book was a real eye opener, the author explains the reasons behind overeating (and why diets have the opposite effect) in a very clear and understandable way. It made me understand that I had been fighting against myself for all those years never taking the time and courage to take a moment and try to understand WHY.

The book is not just informative, but also contains easy to implement and very helpful exercises to incorporate mindfulness into your life. I picked one of the exercise everyday for the past 2 weeks and, although it sounds cheesy, it has changed my life! My binges have gradually decreased both in frequency and size, which feels really good, and I see positive changes in other areas of my life as well. It's like the solution I've always sought in books and experts was always there within me.

I cannot recommend this book enough!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great little resource on mindfulness & eating 9 juillet 2014

I have been interested in mindfulness for quite awhile, occasionally practicing meditation and such, so I was definitely interested to see what this book had to say. Honestly, I have never been a dieter, I always believed that going on and off crazy fad diets actually does more harm than good. However, I will admit that I do find myself emotionally eating, especially during stressful times and putting on a few extra unwanted pounds. The ideas and suggestions in this book are a "plan" I could actually follow. No beating yourself up if you make a bad choice, no foods that are strictly off limits and no nasty-tasting supplements or shakes to drink. As simple as mindfulness is in its basic form, the hard part is making it a habit to live your life actually experiencing everything instead of being on autopilot. This book gives some great pointers to help you along the way. I can testify that when I am mindful about what I eat, I eat less, I tend to eat healthier and I enjoy food much more. I also find that focused attention spreading out to other areas of my life. I would highly recommend this book, both to those who are new to mindfulness practice and those like me who appreciate its benefits, but occasionally get distracted and forget how important it truly is.

Wow, what a complete breath of fresh air! I’m so glad I decided to get this book!

Having struggled with being overweight for over a decade now, all the while being constantly overwhelmed by the incessant stream of fad diets that seem to pop up around every other corner, I’m now completely convinced that the conventional dieting mindset is utterly damaging and counterproductive.

This whole concept of mindful eating is such a contrasting approach to all these diets that all seem to promote losing weight before gaining health. What I loved about this book is that the author really got to the heart of the issue, describing in detail how the ultimate goal is really to become fully tuned in to our own appetites, desires and passions, but also to tune out the clutter and noise from the outside world that stifle our inborn intuition about what is good for us and what isn’t.

It was quite an inward journey to be able to follow along with the fictional character that the author had created in order to better explain and convey the concepts of mindful eating to the reader. I could really resonate with her, and that helped tremendously.

Now, having read this book, I really feel that I’ve gained a new understanding of what true hunger really is, at least for me. And I have also been able to recognize the psychological, emotional, behavioral, physical and even spiritual causes behind my overeating. And as the author states, it is only then that we can truly start to take realistic steps to remedy it. Which is exactly what I’m planning on doing from now on.

If you’re anything like me, never really had a healthy relationship with food, I urge you do the same. There is a wealth of information found in this book. Thank you!

I knew as soon as I read the introduction of 'Mindful Eating' that this book was for me. Those first few sentences were like a snapshot of a day in my life! Got some great thoughts and tips from reading this book, and it doesn't even necessarily mean that I need to go on a diet. The word 'mindful' really says it all and is something that I will certainly have at the forefront of my mind regarding my attitude towards food in the future. Thanks
