Description de l'ouvrage

12 novembre 2013 Fundamental Changes in Jazz Guitar

Over 170 notated audio examples

12 backing tracks

80 minutes of audio

Full discussion and analysis of the most important approaches to minor ii V i soloing

20 lessons and over 100 pages of music

Minor ii V Mastery is the definitive guide to bebop minor ii V soloing for guitar. Following hot on the heels of the best selling "Fundamental Changes for Jazz Guitar" this book delves deep into all the major soloing approaches to the minor ii V i chord progression.

Beginning from basic first principles such as chord arpeggios, chromatic approach notes, extended arpeggios and target notes, Minor ii V Mastery goes on to cover the more exciting and advanced melodic concepts used by all the great bebop jazz guitarists.

In-depth chapters cover essential vocabulary based on the Phrygian Dominant mode, the Altered Scale, Arpeggio Substitutions and the Aeolian Bebop Scale.

The emphasis is on building your jazz guitar solo from the ground up, and writing lines around the important concepts demonstrated in the book. With over 170 notated audio examples you will hear, absorb and understand minor ii V vocabulary as never before.

You can also try out your ideas with the 12 professional backing tracks included for free download.

The focus throughout Minor ii V Mastery is on using just one position on the guitar, meaning you can focus only on what matters most; the sound of the melodic line. In this way you can stop worrying about one hundred different fingering permutations and completely master one area of the guitar.

By blocking out these 'guitar-specific' distractions, the sound of the minor ii v i will be deeply ingrained in your ears freeing you to create meaningful music.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another excellent book 20 mars 2014

This is the follow up and companion of Fundamental Changes in Jazz Guitar,by the same author. This time it covers ii-V-i progression in minor,a topic rarely covered in depth and thoroughly,at least in guitar oriented books. All the different approaches that you can pick one by one from other sources(i.e.harmonic minor scale,or minor 3rd trick),are here explained and put in context in the most gradual, clear and easy to understand format. Also in this book,to avoid confusion, only one fingering is used to explain and absorb-conceptually and aurally- the various musical topics,so the task to apply them to the other four is simplified.A fine work, check it out.

I would highly recommend this product. This book is a great view of what it takes to properly improvise through a Minor II-V-I progression. Joseph Alexander pushes you through new concepts and by using old concepts and combining them in great ways for soloing. Using arpeggios and bebop scales are the building blocks to a modern sound and Joseph really knows his stuff. I've been playing guitar professionally for twenty years and I find this book very refreshing and a great additional to my arsenal of chops. Don't hesitate, just get the book!

This is another fantastic book in the Fundamental-Changes series. It follows the same "winning" formula of breaking down II-V-I progressions in a very logical/practical way to facilitate internalizing the information so it can be applied to real life playing situations.. After you have worked thorough the examples, you are going to be playing beautiful and challenging lines... More importantly, you will have a deep understanding of the jazz vocabulary required to build your own lines... The audio examples and backing tracks really make the process allot of fun!

I personally own 100's of jazz guitar method books.. The titles from Joseph Alexander are always on the top of the stack!

I've played the guitar for over 40 years but could only manage certain skills. The CAGED system truly is opening up the entire guitar neck. I've purchased many other books and even taught from many other books. If it weren't against my nature I would through most of them away. If I could only purchase from I author Joseph Alexander would be the one. He truly knows how to teach, not just play. There is a big difference. Step by step he guides, methodically, through important scales, licks and exercises. If you can't learn from Joseph then put the guitar down and take up something else.

Seriously, the best guitar instruction, in print form, I've ever seen. If I ever teach guitar again then his are the books I will use and recommend. Great job Joseph!

This book is effectively helping me to not be over whelmed with improvising over chord movement. I feel less intimidated as I see how sometimes it's enough to let a chord pass or simply play one or two notes to imply the chord. I like Joseph's teaching method.
