Présentation de l'éditeur

Seven spellbinding stories by seven USA Today Bestselling Authors with characters you'll never forget.

A Cutthroat Business by Jenna Bennett
Everyone has warned new-minted realtor Savannah Martin that real estate is a cutthroat business. But Savannah doesn't think she's supposed to take the warning literally ... until an early morning phone call sends her to an empty house on the 'bad' side of town, where she finds herself standing over the butchered body of a competitor, face to face with the boy her mother always warned her about.

The Ex Who Wouldn’t Die by Sally Berneathy
Amanda has been trying for a year to divorce her lying, cheating, scam artist husband, Charley. Then he turns up dead, murdered. Finally they are no longer married! But she is the primary suspect and, as if that isn't bad enough, Charley's ghost shows up in her apartment. He was rejected, kicked back to earth, not allowed to go into the light. Even death did not them part.

A Touch of Ice by L.J. Charles
When Everly Gray touches photographer Mitchell Hunt and sees the image of a dead body, she dives into the murder ESP fingers first. Caught in a web of intrigue, El discovers an aptitude for breaking and entering, the pain of a gunshot wound, and the terror of facing a killer. What she doesn’t learn—to keep her fingers to herself.

The Chase by Adrienne Giordano
Hard-driving attorney Jo Pomeroy is as determined as she is sexy—in other words, a major pain in NYPD Sergeant Gabe Townsend’s butt. Working together on a high-profile task force charged with busting sales of counterfeit goods has been rocky from the start. Now, she’s on the radar of a mysterious smuggler not afraid to use violence to evade the law. At the risk of their lives—and their hearts—Gabe and Jo must find him before he finds them.

The Secret Ingredient by Misty Evans
During a live cooking show in her hometown, celebrity chef Katelynn Karr's father dies in front of millions of viewers, and suspicion falls on Kate when his autopsy reveals he was poisoned. Nick Juno, the boy she left behind and who is now mayor, is the only person who can prove Kate's innocence.

Let Us Prey by Jamie Lee Scott
Mimi Capurro is trying to put her life back together after the sudden death of her husband. Using the skills she learned as a secret service agent, she runs the Gotcha Detective Agency, along with her skilled computer forensics partner Charles Parks. Gotcha specializes in executive protection (bodyguards), and tailing cheating spouses.
Mimi never expects to run into her old college flame Nick, when she takes on an executive protection case for New York Times bestselling author Lauren Silke. But when Lauren’s assistant is murdered, the homicide case, along with Mimi, land in Nick’s lap. Will Mimi and Nick be able to solve this murder without killing each other first?

The Throwbacks by Stephanie Queen

To salvage his career, exiled Scotland Yard "Flying Squad" detective, the not-so-young David Young, joins the Boston Police Department.
But this rogue detective can’t resist an unlikely romance with his young and vivacious decorator, Grace Rogers, even when she becomes a key witness in his high-stakes case--and like Kryptonite to his career and well-being.

As in all boxed sets, some worth reading, some not; one suspects that there are lesser writers bundled in with better ones in order to make sales. I gave up on some, enjoyed others. Not bad for the price.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This collection is the perfect combination! 8 mai 2013

Great collection! I had already read everything I could get my hands on by Jenna Bennett, L. j. Charles and Sally Berneathy; I love what those ladies bring to a story! I had read other books by Adrianne Giordano, but "The Chase" was new and I can't wait for the next segment; Adrianne Giordano has a way with a hot lead and creates characters to which I have become attached. From knowing these authors and some of the books, I expected only the best and that is just what I got from the new books as well as my old friends: "a Touch of Ice" by L.j. Charles, "A Cutthroat Business" by Jenna Bennett, and "The Ex Who Wouldn't Die". The set introduced me to some wonderful authors I hadn't read. As soon as I finished Mirth, Murder & Mystery, I read the next two books after "Let Us Prey" by Jaime Lee Scott and bought the short sequel to "The Secret Ingredient", and a book from the Kali Sweet series by Misty Evans. "The Throwbacks" is a little different from my usually style, but I am looking forward to reading more from that series too.

Even having already read the first three books in this collection, I got more than my money's worth. You can't miss with any of these authors.

For anyone who is interested, I paid full price for the collection and do not know any of the authors personally. I hear comments about rave reviews on Amazon and want to assure anyone interested that my comments are based on my personal reaction to books I love.

This is a package of seven mystery/thrillers. Liked the first one, but The Chase really ticked me off! Attorney Jo Pomeroy and NYPD Sergeant Gabe Townsend are teamed up trying to find the source of fake knockoffs - purses, watches, etc. In the meantime, naturally, they fall in love (or maybe lust). A thrilling fire scene where Jo is almost fried and they're getting closer to the head guy. Well, the story abruptly ends - they're headed to the bedroom once again, and NO FURTHER resolution of the crime. The old "stay tuned and buy by next book" trick by the author. Cheap tactic!!

What a great idea to put these novels in an anthology! The book by Stephanie Queen, The Throwbacks, was a delight to read as it takes place in Boston and gives the reader a true feel for the city. The other books also provide entertainment and intrigue. I hope this group puts out another set soon.

Are there no proofreaders left? Is there no one who knows that you rein your emotions in and don't reign them? Is there no one who can correctly handle conditional sentences and sequence in indirect discourse? Really? Seriously? Simple declarative sentences, are they so hard to write that no one can do them any more? It's enough to send you screaming to A Tale of Two Cities.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Only one story without "adult content," and where was the mirth? 30 août 2013

I had hoped to enjoy several of these stories (some are longer short stories). As is a common theme in my book reviews, which are nearly all written by Carolyn (Harvey's daughter), most of the stories in this set were written with the assumption that readers want to watch (in other words, read about) people having sex. I DO NOT. And I find this a very disappointing delusion.

What I was able to safely read varied in quality, skill, and cleveness. Some stories had some promise, however, as a whole, I would not recommend this set without editing for content, etc.
