About the author
MJ Wilson holds a BA in Photography from California State University. She has worked as a freelance photographer for over 25 years, and her clients include both large and small corporations, magazines and major newspapers. In her time as a professional photographer, she has photographed models, actors, bands, corporate clients, and children for magazines, calendars, catalogs and brochures. She also acts as liaison between clients and modeling agencies in that she is in charge of hiring and photographing models that appear in print ads, product brochures and catalogs.

So You Want to be a Model: The first step in any career is research. But more importantly, you must realize that modeling is a career. The people involved in this industry take their professions quite seriously and will expect no less from the people they work with. You will need to understand your options, be prepared to manage your own business, and be smart. Being a model is hard work, but becoming one can be even more difficult. Arming yourself with knowledge, other than that which you can only gain from experience, is the best way to avoid the pitfalls and determine if this elusive dream can be yours.
