Description de l'ouvrage

10 avril 2007
A macrobiotic diet is beneficial not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally. Consisting of nuts, grains, vegetables, and other foods that are primarily whole, living, and unprocessed, it combines foods in a way that balances the body’s energies. Modern-Day Macrobiotics is both a cookbook and a practical guide to understanding and adopting a macrobiotic lifestyle. Along with menus and complete eating plans – including a one-day tone-up, three-day detox, ten-day regeneration diet, and four-month healing diet – it helps readers tailor a diet to their specific needs. Nearly 80 recipes cover every meal of the day, including dessert, and are tagged with icons indicating what types of energy the dish imparts. Colorful reference charts help readers find useful information at a glance. Health benefits; buying and storing ingredients; shortcuts and ten-minute meals; and ordering in restaurants are also covered. Luscious, full-color photographs capture the vibrant flavors of this healthy, delicious diet.

Biographie de l'auteur

Simon G. Brown has been practicing a macrobiotic lifestyle for nearly 25 years. In the mid-1980s, Brown studied under Mishio Kushi in Philadelphia and assisted him with consultations. He also regularly helped cook macrobiotic meals for the 90 or so people who would go to the center to eat. In 1986, Brown returned to London to run the Community Health Foundation—Europe's largest natural health center at the time. Brown later started his own counseling practice and began teaching macrobiotic courses. Brown is also a highly regarded practitioner of feng shui and shiatsu, and a best-selling author on these subjects.

Michio Kushi is recognized as the world authority on macrobiotics. He became a proponent of macrobiotics after meeting its founder, George Ohsawa, in Japan in 1945. In the early 1960s Kushi and his wife Aveline founded Erewhon, the first natural food company in the US. In 1971 Kushi and his students founded the East West Journal and later the East West Foundation, for macrobiotic teaching and research. In 1978, Michio and Aveline founded the Kushi Institute, an educational organization with centers throughout America and Europe. Kushi's seminars and lectures have attracted thousands of health care professionals and other supporters. His life and teachings have been written about in Life, Paris-Match, Interview, and other publications. He has written several dozen books on the relationship of diet to health and well-being, including The Macrobiotic Way (Avery, 2004), The Macrobiotic Path to Total Health (Ballantine, 2003), and The Cancer Prevention Diet (St. Martin's Griffin, 2004).

At last a beautiful book on macrobiotics. Wonderful photographs, great information, easy to follow guidelines and tempting recipes. I am excited to recommend this book to my clients, students and friends. Simon presents a sometimes confusing philosophy in a clear and interesting manner which makes you want to dive in and have a go. This is a must for anyone who wants to make positive changes to their diet and lifestyle. Fantastic!

This book is a fabulous book , i highly recommend it. First off, it is beautifully laid out with the pictures and design. The book explains macrobiotics-- theory and diet, very well. Also, the recipes in the back section were great. I have made a few already. One of the best sections discusses how to be more efficient in macrobiotic cooking and meal preparation. When i first started with macrobiotics, i was spending a couple hours a day in the kitchen, but the advice given in the book has really helped me streamline my menus and time. I could not recommend this book more highly than i do!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Amazing book and Amazing author too! 4 juin 2007
Par Discount Natural Foods - Publié sur
I was thrilled to get a copy of Modern Day macrobiotics last year considering how the book does such a wonderful job in bringing macrobiotics into the modern ages. It covers the latest in scientific dietary theories so you are left with an understanding in how to incorporate these into your practice of macrobiotics. It also does a wonderful job in helping you to understand how to make macrobiotics work best for you, how do you want to live your life, and how to best adapt it around that. The recipes are wonderful, and the illustrations and pictures are breath taking, along with the wonderful and informative charts and graphic tools.

The best part is that you can join the author's yahoo group once you obtain the book, and this will help you to obtain maximum benefit from it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Most excellent and encouraging Macro book ever! 5 juillet 2007
Par Bickay - Publié sur
This book is most faithful to its title, 'Modern' - I have read a lot of materials regarding macro and this is by far the most practical, encouraging, yet very informative book ever. Some macro books are very informative but tend to be too conservative that readers, especially newcomers to macro diet tend to be intimidated or would have difficulty sticking to the diet. This macro book is sensitive to the current lifestyle and offers choices to make going into and staying in a macro lifestyle easier and more fun.

More than just another collection of terrific recipes guaranteed to please the palate and satisfy the appetite of even the most gourmet of diners, "Modern-Day Macrobiotics: Transform Your Diet And Feed Your Mind, Body, And Spirt" also presents vitally important information about the importance and health benefits of eating whole, living foods; explains about how eating the foods that are right for the human body can actually enhance our physical and mental energy; why it is necessary to add quality, variety, and flexibility to our diets for health and enjoyment; how to design a personalized macrobiotic diet for a single day, for three months, or for the rest of our lives; as well as where and how to buy wholesome ingredients. Of special note is the advice and guidance for creating menu plans. Enhanced with almost eighty delicious, step-by-step, easy-to-prepare recipes ranging from Shoyu Soup with Carrot and Radish; to Chinese Cabbage and Sauerkraut Rolls; to Nutty Rice Pudding, "Modern-Day Macrobiotics" is very highly recommended, especially for students of nutrition, alternative medicine, and healthy family dining.
