5.0 étoiles sur 5 Everything it should be! 30 novembre 2010
Par Wade McGinnis - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
I use the heading "everything it should be" since I found that this final installment to the Molly Fyde series was exactly that: everything an end-game should be! It was equal parts heartbreaking, satisfying, frustrating, uplifting, gut-wrenching, and fulfilling! While I found myself struggling to become invested with characters I once thought to be minor, I can now understand and appreciate the author's master plan from the beginning as those character's roles are expanded. I think that devoted fans of a series has certain expectations for a final novel, and that this create emotional bonds with the characters and plot... no matter my expectations and investments, ultimately this book pays off. Not only was I rooting for our beloved "Five" but also for Ryke and Penny and Cat and Scottie and all the "supporting" characters who step up their game here. It will leave you feeling the tragedy and the love experienced by our main protagonists, and also leave you wondering what else the author knows about these characters post-Bern Saga. So many unexpected plot twists and cliffhangers... In the end, the Fight For Peace makes me want to start the series over and appreciate it once (or twice! or thrice!) again with a new understanding of the overall idea, and there aren't many series that can promise that.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great New Sci-Fi Author! 31 décembre 2010

Much of the problem that I've found plaguing contemporary authors (across genres) is an overall inability to fully create the worlds that their characters inhabit. They lack the little plot and setting details that, while not really important to the overall story line, give the reader a sense of "completeness" in the world itself - a sense that the author cared enough about the world they were creating to really elaborate on small details in an attempt to fully immerse the reader. To me, that's one of the defining characteristics of some of the worlds best authors past and present and it's one of the things that kept me reading the Molly Fyde series.

Right from the start of the series, you can tell that Hugh's work is a labor of love. He doesn't seem try to make his books fit into particular mass market molds and he doesn't cram his characters into old, labored sci-fi tropes. He's creates worlds in which his characters can develop and become something real to his readers. What's more, he does a fantastic job of illustrating those worlds for the reader and then tying those illustrations into the thoughts and perceptions of the characters. His worlds aren't just a stage, they are organic and interconnected with his characters.

This has been one of my favorite new sci-fi series. Hugh manages to cover many current issues from ecology to feminism in thoughtful and engaging ways and he blends all of that in with invigorating action and a solid foundation in contemporary science. I have and will continue to recommend this series to all of my friends.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 great finish to the story but... 18 mai 2012

i didn't really care about the flashbacks. cole's was semi-interesting, walter's i skipped through, and anlyn's i barely skimmed through. the best backstory was the freakin wadi's! but it was in the prolouge so it didn't feel intrusive like i felt the rest of the flashbacks were.

the actual story was very good though and i thought it tied it up nicely so if there are no more molly fyde books in howey's future i'll be sad but at least i feel satisfied. love molly, cole, the wadi, and cat; great characters! howey can really make you feel for these people. i loved the hyperspace part of the story. i could lose penelope, anlyn, edison, and anything palan related.

if you haven't read wool yet, read wool!! its what turned me on to howey in the first place even though the stories are different in every way a story can be whats the same is his wonderfully descriptive worlds he creates and characters (even bad peeps) that you emote with.

if my vote counts at all i want more molly fyde! and not like another five hundred years down the road molly fyde's decendants; i mean the characters that survived this book doing what howey hinted at them doing at the end of the story.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Author who knows his reader! 21 janvier 2011

Hugh Howey has written a series that has not disappointed me. In fact, I purchased the series as Christmas gifts for two nieces. It is easy to see how Howey's depth of character development and storytelling should be on Sci-Fi readers' radar. Great read!

The Bern Saga became an addiction for me right from the first chapter of the Parsona Rescue. I couldn't read them fast enough and at the same time I wanted to read slower so I could savor them. It was hours of joy, torture, nail biting, and long nights when I should have been sleeping promising myself "just one more chapter".

So when I started reading the Fight for Peace it seemed bittersweet. The final installment in the Bern Saga, I couldn't wait to find out how it ended, I never wanted to finish reading. And then...

A seemingly endless 'prologue', four chapters from the Wadi's perspective? Okay, I shook it off. It was mildly interesting though I didn't really see the need for it. Thinking I was about to get back into the real meat of the story I gobbled up the next five chapters...and almost groaned out loud when I got to MORE back story.

Six chapters of Cole's back story. I started skimming. Then we're back on track...well for at least a few more chapters before the back story hell continues.

Want to know what was going on in my mind at this point? WHAT THE FLANK HOWEY, WHAT THE FLANK???

The saga that had previously kept me up at night turning pages now had me wishing for a nap. When I got 70% of the way through the book and was still reading "flanking" back story I wanted to cry in frustration. I was flipping pages (without actually reading them) on the Kindle so fast I'm surprised my index finger wasn't smoking. So why didn't I give this book one star? Well, the back story was interesting, but seemed unnecessary. Or at the very least it could have better been incorporated into the previous books of the series. You could probably start reading at chapter 40 and not feel like you've missed anything.

I hate to give a bad review for a author whom I admire but even the ending felt anti-climatic. Did I miss something? Was I just punked? I will say this: Don't let this review keep you from reading the series. I will still suggest The Bern Saga to anyone who will listen to me. Howey is an amazing author with superb skill. Before I start ranting and make this review unbearably long I'll wrap it up. Start reading at chapter 40.
