The Monster Mag For You 5 août 2014
Par Heath A. Dauberman - Publié sur
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
This is the zine for people who just can't get enough info on cult films. Think of it as a Famous Monsters Of Filmland for grown ups. I was surprised when it arrived and I saw how small it was. I expected magazine format but this is closer to digest format. This turned out to be perfect for me. While I was at work I was able to stick it in my pocket in between breaks. It is square bound with a nice heavy stock cover. The paper is appropriately off white considering the age of most of the movies covered. And the layout varies from article to article giving it an eclectic feel. I love the old press book ads sensationally selling a particular movie and Monster includes plenty, taking advantage of the limits of B&W. Also included, some fan art, wich I would like to see more of. The drawing of the Cyclops from the movie The Cyclops by what must have been a twelve year old was quite charming. And the article on the Cyclops was great along with all the articles. Each contribution has plenty of personal recollection and editorial that I think is important when covering something as silly as monster movies. Hammer's Abomidable Snowman gets the showcase in this issue and the author goes deep into remembering the when and where of each viewing throughout his life. I find that more entertaining than plot synopsis and production notes (included as well) This issue also sheds some light on monster movies so obscure, they may not even exist and bizarro international movies. Right up my alley! Sorry to see no subscription so I'll be getting all my issues from Amazon.

Best issue yet? 25 juin 2014

Wow, this fanzine covers my very favorite genre of films... Monster Movies! Every issue has had some really great articles and reviews, but this issue covers several films I've always been interested in, but haven't watched in many years. This issue has inspired me to dig out my tapes and DVDs of THE MONSTER SQUAD (to show my girls), THE TWILIGHT PEOPLE, THE CYCLOPS and my never watched copy of EL TRIUNFO DE LOS CAMPEONES JUSTICIEROS (I never watched this because my copy is in Spanish with no subtitles). I enjoyed the article on "found footage" monster films, even though I hate found footage films.

A great magazine for people who grew up "Monster Kids". Very reminiscent of Famous Monsters, but with a more serious overtone. A well done, digest sized magazine that covers monster films (they have to have a monster in them) that covers films I've heard of and never heard of. Great buy!

If you like the subject matter and you enjoy reading and supporting well produced, quality Fanzines, then you can not go wrong, especially at this price point. Kudos to the team here, and a grudging nod of appreciation to Amazon for creating a global marketplace for this sort of endeavor.

Why go to the bookstore for your monster magazines? 26 juin 2014
Par Fred Adelman - Publié sur
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
Another winning issue from Tim Paxton and his crew of expert writers on everything that has to do with monster movies and only monster movies. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy today. You'll read this 74 page issue from beginning to end and not want to put it down. One of the best self-published, yet professional-looking, zines out there. And the price is less than most so-called professional zines, yet MONSTER! has no advertising and contains more info than 10 issues of a genre zine you can buy on the newsstand.
