5.0 étoiles sur 5An uncommon anthology!8 juin 2014

This book was beautiful. The images were unique and captivating. One of my favorite parts was the layout as the margins and citations were designed unlike any other book I have seen. Though this first print run contained a few editing errors, the content overpowered those mistakes. The topics offered in depth or introductory content to obscured histories and practices. I'm excited to see future works produced by this press.

I received this book as a gift still wrapped in its original mailer. All four corners were bent and there was a dent in the side of the spine. Also I noticed that the pages had not been properly flush during the binding process, they were crumpled which is now causing the front section of the book to pull away from the badly glued gutter.
Some of the photos were pixelated and the larger photos that had been printed across two consecutive pages and bisected by the gutter, some photos did not align properly. Bad printing or bad design?
I found many of the essays bogged down with a dry, thesis quality rather than just telling it like it is. At times, it was a bit over the top with the academic writing which ended up being dull and stilted. Considering the salacious nature of the topics listed in the book, it ended up being a bit of a yawnfest.
And finally, the Walter Potter section. Those kittens experienced unmitigated suffering when their bodies were held under water until they died an absolutely horrible death. Afterwards, their limp bodies were unceremoniously skinned, stuffed and put into cruel anthropomorphic representations of the human form strictly for the pure enjoyment of humans. Humans can be so ugly. Especially those that condone Victorian animal abuse as an excuse for hipster irony.
