Présentation de l'éditeur

Fame comes at a price. Some pay with their privacy. Others pay with their pride. Khloe Everest paid with her life.

Determined to get her pretty face in front of the cameras, Khloe Everest fakes an abduction only to make a grand entrance in the midst of a press conference held by Spencer's Police Chief David O'Callaghan.

Three years later, after failing to catapult her notoriety into a long-lasting celebrity, Khloe Everest returns to Spencer upon her mother's sudden death and seemingly finds another weapon to propel herself into the spotlight. Unfortunately, someone kills her before she can make this entrance.

In Lauren Carr's sixth Mac Faraday Mystery, Mac and his friends come up against reality stars, politicians, has-beens, and wannabes. Mac also finds himself face-to-face with an old foe from his past who had managed to escape arrest during their last encounter. Now, Mac sees that his adversary has only become more powerful, and dangerous, with the passage of time.

Intent to not let this killer escape again, Mac and his friends need to put all of their talents together to put a stop to a cold blooded lady killer.

Another great book, shows up a lot of horrible flaws in the world of politics though. Love the interwoven relationships between the main characters, makes for entertaining reading.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Murder with humor as only Gnarly can do... 4 octobre 2013
Par Parker Pen - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
This novel contains not only some very nasty, sick individuals, it is also full of a lot of very humorous moments that made me laugh out loud. All of our Mac Faraday friends that we have come to know and love are back with a bang in this latest offering from Lauren Carr. Her storyline deals with the ugly murders of women by a very twisted individual. It's up to Mac and his half-brother, David, to find out who did what, when and why. They, of course, must have help from those closest to them--whether they want it or not. This includes Gnarly, a former member of the U.S. Army...who refuses to acknowledge his existence...and his girlfriend, Molly. Irving, who is often-OK, more than often-referred to as a real skunk, (alright...ALWAYS referred to as a real skunk), is right in there to lend a helping paw. Oh, did I forget to mention that Gnarly is former U.S. Army service dog and his girlfriend, Molly is a service dog? They are and are both German Shepherds. Irving, bless his heart, is a Maine Coon cat who could understudy for Pepe Le Pew, if he didn't have so many issues to deal with due to this very fact.

I thought some of the characters were stretching my imagination until I realized that these people probably really do exist in our political society in some shape or fashion, and that is a very scary thought. How Mac and all his friends get to the bottom of the mystery and murder is fun to read, as well as funny. There are enough dark moments to fill our need in a mystery novel and enough lighthearted moments to get us through.

My only complaint with this novel is David's girlfriend. I didn't care for her and found her to be very immature and distracting. She grated on my nerves with her Jr. high school behavior. I hope that if she appears in future series, she will have done a lot of maturing. I don't see how she can last around the others if she doesn't. They are too adult, smart and sophisticated to put up with her for long...if they stay in character.

If you have read the other books in this series, you will enjoy being with with Mac and Co. again. If not, I urge you to start reading them. The time you spend with Mac and his family and friends will be time well spent.

Parker Pen

(I was offered an ARC of this novel for my honest opinion. I offer you, fellow reader, my honest opinion. Nothing is worse than reading a book that is a real time waster, and this one wasn't. I read it in one sitting. My family had to have me read parts to them when I laughed out loud. We have a big dog and 4 big cats so the interruptions to my reading time were a sharing time to say, "Thank goodness that hasn't happened here, and DO Not let them get hold of my Kindle to see what was so funny! )

5.0 étoiles sur 5 IN PURSUIT OF JUSTICE 29 octobre 2013
Par Laurel-Rain Snow - Publié sur
Khloe Everest believes that she can create her own fame through various well-timed actions. So she takes a drastic step and fakes her own abduction. The aftermath was unexpected...and not in a good way.

Three years later, disowned by her mother, Khloe returns to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, after her mother's sudden death. Holed up in her mother's house, ready to make another play at notoriety with a stunning announcement, another unexpected event happens...her body is discovered in the house, stabbed to death and dismembered.

Mac Faraday, our resident rich man and detective, is on the case with his brother, David O'Callaghan, who is also the Chief of Police. But the victim's notoriety, as well as the agendas of several politicians and so-called friends, cripple the investigation and make the path to solving the case very challenging. Plus...a few previous victims seem to be connected to this one, leading them to realize that they are in pursuit of a serial killer(s).

Will Mac and David find their killer(s), or will they soon discover that this case has disturbing and complex elements that will take them down many twisted pathways? Will justice be served, or will the bad guys win out once again?

I enjoyed how other familiar characters cropped up here and there, like Archie, Mac's fiancee, and Chelsea, a former girlfriend of David's, who is slowly moving closer to forgiving him for past misdeeds. And from another Lauren Carr series (Lovers in Crime), Cameron Gates and Joshua Thornton show up to assist with the case, as some of the previous victims lived in their jurisdictions. They brought something delightful to the canvas, as they are newlyweds, trying to carve out alone time, even in the midst of all the mystery.

There could not be a story set in Deep Creek Lake without Gnarly, Archie's German Shepherd...and now that Chelsea is a resident, her dog Molly adds some fun to the mix. But when Cameron appears with her Maine Coon cat Irving...well, you can imagine the antics. I liked being able to laugh and smile in these light moments amidst all the frightening events.

The Lady Who Cried Murder: A Mac Faraday Mystery was another heart-stopping romp, and while the mystery and path to its solution were wonderful, I always love the characters as much as the suspense. Five stars.

First off, I think Lauren Carr is a great writer; second, I already love the Mac Faraday series of Mysteries. That given, I was not disappointed in this book--it is a terrific addition to the series. Sometimes I wish the "update" type of paragraphs in there could be left out (since I already am familiar with the main characters) but it really is incidental and it is great that just those little additions make the stories able to "stand alone" if you haven't read any of the others. Whether you're familiar with the stories or not, this is a great mystery novel. Even beyond that, it's a fun and easy read with lots of laugh out loud moments.
Thank you Lauren for your great writing! Yes, I'm going to start on one of your other series, too; your writing is too much fun and is so smooth I just can't resist!

I was so happy another Mac Faraday book was out. I have bought everyone and each one is better than the last. The characters are strong. There are many suspects and it takes many twists and turns. Gnarly the German Shepard and Molly (his girlfriend} help to capture the bad guys. I would highly recommend. A good old fashioned mystery. You will fall in love with the characters and it feels as though you know them.
