Présentation de l'éditeur

When Homicide Detective Cameron Gates befriends Dolly, the little old lady who lives across the street, she is warned not to get lured into helping the elderly woman by investigating the unsolved murder of one of her girls. “She’s senile,” Cameron is warned. “It’s not a real murder.”

Such is not the case. After Dolly is brutally murdered, Cameron discovers that the sweet blue-haired lady’s “girl” was a call girl, who had been killed in a mysterious double homicide.

Meanwhile, Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Thornton is looking for answers to the murder of a childhood friend, a sheriff's deputy whose cruiser is found at the bottom of a lake. The deputy had disappeared almost twenty years ago while privately investigating the murder of a local prostitute.

It doesn’t take long for the Lovers in Crime to put their cases together to reveal a long-kept secret that some believe is worth killing to keep undercover.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Engrossing Fast-Paced Mystery 11 juillet 2014

While my favorite Lauren Carr series is the Mac Faraday stories, the Lovers in Crime series is quickly rising to the top. Prosecuting attorney Joshua Thornton and his new wife homicide detective Cameron Gates plunge into a decades old series of homicides that keep them on their toes as they sort through the long-buried clues. While they are trying to sort out the conflicting information they are receiving, Joshua's grown daughter is here for the summer and not liking that another female is in the house.

As always, author Lauren Carr has another hit on her growing list of best-sellers. The fast-paced, unique murder story will keep readers up all night as they search for clues to the latest murder mystery.

After each chapter, I find myself musing about it before I can move on.
There is so much that happened I need to try and sort it out.
I love it! Not only does it provide great entertainment, but it keeps you guessing up until the last page.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series to arrive next year!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 THE DOMINO EFFECT 25 juillet 2014

Format:Broché
When Police Detective Cameron Gates and her new husband Joshua Thornton, a prosecuting attorney, team up to solve a string of murders, including some cold cases from 1976 and 1996, they are stunned by the domino effect that seems to be in play.

The brutal murder of Dolly Houseman, an elderly woman who lives across the street, starts the chain of events, and as we meet the various players and realize the connections between them all, it is impossible to put Real Murder (A Lovers in Crime Mystery Book 2) down.

What was Dolly's mysterious business, and how did her former life set her up as a target? What did Mike Gardner's murder in 1996 have to do with events in the present, and to whom was he secretly connected?

For a while, it seemed as though none of the clues would lead to anyone, and then, almost as if it were planned out, everything started to come together. Could it have been a mysterious package containing tapes that helped them sort it all out?

As usual, Carr's delightful and likable characters, including a couple of interesting pets, kept me reading and enjoying every moment. Set primarily in West Virginia, I loved the settings, as well as the plot that was twisted enough to keep me trying to figure things out. Definitely another five star read.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 I love Lauren Carr's books! 25 septembre 2014

Oh man I got to tell you I’m loving every read I’ve been doing from Lauren Carr! So far I haven’t been disappointed by any of her books and this is another one that I’ll want to have on my shelf. Lauren Carr also has another series, The Mac Faraday Mysteries, which I’m also loving every bit and will have too catch up with very soon!

Both Joshua Thornton (hero) and Cameron Gates (heroine) also made appearances in Lauren’s other books, like in the Mac Faraday Mysteries and in his very own the Joshua Thornton Mysteries.

But in this series, it’s its own series all on its own and it’s just as wonderfully written and told just like Lauren’s other stories.

As you can see from the synopsis this is about an 18 year old crime that has been brought back to light when a body of a missing sheriff deputy is found shot in is cruiser at the bottom of a lake. But not just that but he, the sheriff, was on a case when he disappeared and it involved the murder of another case 20 years prior. Joshua being the last person to have seen and talked to the sheriff, his childhood friend, felt guilty for not going with his friend to help him on his case that fateful day and is now determined to solve the case of his friend’s murder and of the case his friend was trying to solve. Not just that but Cameron takes up a case when she is put on two weeks vacation to recover from her latest injury during one of her cases. But this is a case that many claims as an “unreal” case imagined by an elderly lady with a scandalous past. But as they both try to solve their own case, they find that it’s more than what meets the eye when it starts to intertwine.

I love how both Joshua and Cameron worked perfectly as a team in solving both their cases, unbeknownst to them that it’s all one whole part of a crime. As newlyweds their chemistry was sweet and lovable and didn’t overshadow the whole mystery and crime solving, which is the whole part of the story. If you want to see how these two got together I would highly recommend reading Joshua Thornton Mysteries which is Joshua’s own mystery crime solving cases and his life before this book and series; plus it also tells of how he was before his wife passed and when he found love again.

But anyways, Real Murder was sure a heck of a mystery. Bring in the history of the crimes and the different kinds of characters that will either help or break the case made it all more thrilling. It reminded me a lot of the television show “Cold Case” so it was fabulous. It also kept me on my toes once the story got going into delving into clues and sleuthing about town trying to figure out why the murders happened and who was behind them. I had my suspicions but like always it never goes the way you think they will and that always makes for a great mystery crime story. It was also written in a great paced so you have time to think about the crime and come up with your own theory.

So yes, I definitely recommend this for readers who love a good mystery and crime solving novel. Not just that but any readers should read mystery, they;’re just that great! Plus, you don’t even have to read the other books written by Lauren Carr to have a better understanding of backgrounds on these characters. This book can definitely be read as a standalone but do check out the other books too because they’re just as wonderful.

Posted first on Blog Critics as Book Review:'Real Murder, A Lovers In Crime Mystery' by Lauren Carr.

Even in small towns there is a possibility of sinister evil, were the secrets of the past can turn even the most unlikely of foe into a killer. Yet it is also true about small towns that dark secrets are often more difficult to extricate from gossip in an effort to reach the truth.

In Real Murder, A Lovers In Crime Mystery by Lauren Carr, we follow the exploits of Detective Cameron Gates. When she meets an irascible elderly lady she is fascinated by her stories. Yet her new friend, Dolly is labeled as senile and delusional. Dolly has been trying to get someone to help her investigate the murder of one of her girls. Yet as Cameron tries to decipher this story, she realizes that Dolly had never had children and understands the cautions from her friends.

In the meantime, the Prosecutor Joshua Thornton is looking for answers to the disappearance of a close personal friend of his from long ago. The last to ever see him, Joshua is feeling like there is something important that must come to light. His friend is not just another missing person; he was a new sheriff deputy investigating the murder of a local prostitute on his own when he disappeared.

When Cameron’s friend, the elderly Dolly is murdered, she struggles to make sense of things. Why would anyone murder such a sweet old lady? Yet when a cruiser is found in the bottom of a lake, and the body of Joshua’s friend comes to light, only these two, Cameron and Joshua can find the tie that twists the two deaths together.

This is a fun and amazing journey into the past and into the mindset of a killer. Carr’s unerring description of character is spot on and you grow to understand and have feelings for them as though they are quite real. The ability to create such realism has you unable to put down the story until its final page. Yet you will find yourself looking for more, missing the action and camaraderie, and hating on those who are responsible for the death of such wonderful personalities. The realism makes it personal, and that is a difficult chore for some writers.

If you love mystery and history, and the interesting characters of small towns, you will be intrigued by this work. The oeuvre just keeps getting better. Carr has a particular way with infusing loving and trusting personalities into her character’s making them friends instead of just cardboard cutouts.

This would be a great book for a reading club or discussion group. The interest in reducing rumors into truths could add a great deal of spice to any meeting.
